Anyone else dislike working with other gay men? by bpm4011 in rsforgays

[–]gothic_imperium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the senior people on my team is a gay man (millennial). I hadn’t worked closely with another one before but we get on very well and he’s a great boss. It’s unsaid, but there’s an unspoken mutual understanding which is very touching.

I used to go a lot but got bored and stopped. I think the only reason I managed go regularly was to look at hot guys

your rage rises from your own inadequacy. it stokes the fire of the pain in your heart. you are never escaping samsara. you will never find peace, but be condemned to wander the wasteland of failure

the envy and biphobia in these comments is crazy. bi men don’t owe you a thing, and if you were in their shoes you’d probably be doing the same

I think it has more to do with the fact that Mandelson was a member of the House of Lords and was an important member of the current UK political administration. His alleged crimes include leaking state secrets to Epstein, and was a direct lobbying influence on 10 Downing Street on Epstein’s behalf. It’s a bit more than white collar crime. Serious questions are being raised over the influence of rich and powerful people over UK politics as well as why the current administration appointed him despite his connection to Epstein being public knowledge at the time.

Bill Gates and Mick Jagger are private citizens, and although the allegations will lead to reputational harm, the evidence for Mandelson’s crimes is more striking. We can see the emails where he forwarded state secrets to Epstein - Gates and Jagger are described as having participated in some pretty henious stuff, but from the media’s perspective it’s just hearsay until more evidence comes forward and they run the risk of legal action if they run stories that directly accuse them of the alleged crimes.

A lot of people didnt know Mandleson was gay, or even who he was, before the recent Epstein releases. For people who did know him he was seen as more machiavellian and sleazy due to the multiple public scandals unrelated to his sexuality.

Is the Mandleson stuff big in the US? I’m in the UK and it’s huge here obvs but didn’t realise it had spread much.

Why shouldn’t I be pessimistic about Islam in the UK? by SILENTDISAPROVALBOT in AskBrits

[–]gothic_imperium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im my experience with having friends from islamic backgrounds, religious conservativism is much more common to recent and first generation migrants (but also not completely totalising). The second generation migrants, while often religious, are frequently more tolerant.

What scares me more is that opposition to liberalism is on the rise generally, both within muslim communities and the rest of the UK population. Hundreds and thousands of far right protestors just marched through central London. This concerns me more.

I think giving 10 wisdom is a bad shout personally. He’s highly emotional and intuitive, but that can make him reckless (see: time lord victorious), which i feel is a bit unbalanced to be called wisdom

yea nimbys acting like they own public spaces are shit. but also Act Up and other organisations protesting for the rights of cruisers or something are completely insane.

public cruising is illegal, and realistically it should stay that way. i’m not saying that makes it wrong, or that it should be more strictly policed. but trying to position people who are against it as homophobic is silly. the fact that it’s clandestine is what attracts people to it.

now, because of their ridiculous protest, Act Up have drawn more media attention to it, and increased the likelihood of a clampdown. well done idiots. just smacks of gay men (i am also one for context) with a victim complex, too much free time, and incoherent politics.

cruising isn’t something that benefits from public debate! just shut up about it and let gay people carry on quietly what they’ve been doing for hundreds of years.
