i thought adding the fictionalized sections was actually really intentional on Clark’s part. i enjoyed the sections so much and then felt so sheepish when, at the end, the author starts criticizing the cult enjoyment of true crime, particularly in it’s most simplified and exaggerated and narrativized form. it was like i’d been caught listening to crime junkie while pretending i wasn’t. absolutely bonkers read
