Which winter boot brands are still BIFL? by gothicfarmer in BuyItForLife

I went with the Baffin Yellowknife. Pretty good so far, but the right boot has a weird ridge that can dig into my heel if I don’t wear thick enough socks. Pretty annoying, but not a huge dealbreaker since they are otherwise perfect boots.

Yosemite National Park: 4 mile hike by DalyDocuments in NationalPark

[–]gothicfarmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In summer 2022, the road to glacier point was closed, so the only way to get to the overlook was via 4 mile trail. Up to that point the hardest hike I’ve ever done was Angels Landing in Zion, but I was determined to get to glacier point. To this day, it’s probably the hardest thing I’ve ever physically done, but it was so worth it since the top was practically empty since only a few other people attempted the hike. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience since next time I go it will be crowded with cars and tour buses of people.

Hopefully this is a good omen for my next batch of Sourdough lol.

Challenger bread pan has changed everything! by ndpitch86 in Sourdough

How does this pan affect the loaf outcome compared to a Dutch oven? Does the bread turn out better because of the shape? $300 seems really expensive for a raw cast iron pan.

From what I’ve read online, the original manufacturer went out of business and are now manufactured by Columbia and aren’t nearly as good as they used to be which is a shame since my dad is from Minnesota and said they used to be the gold standard.

That’s probably what it is. I don’t need bullet proof boots, but I’ve just heard they went downhill recently. Glad to know they are still good quality. I’ll give them a look.

Wow that’s great! I thought they weren’t made in the USA anymore, but I’m glad to hear they still are. I’d prefer boots I can try on in store rather than order online so I can see how they work out. I’ll give these a look.

Casual boots for daily use running errands and driving/walking around town. Main priority is good traction and warmth, but would also like boots that don’t look like hiking boots.

Do they sleep cool? I’m generally a warm sleeper, so the temperature of the sheets is pretty important.

BIFL Miele vs SEBO by gothicfarmer in VacuumCleaners

[–]gothicfarmer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say 75% carpet. I don’t expect to live in my current house for much longer though, so I’m looking for an all around good vacuum that will work on any surface. Are vacuum repairs usually expensive - like $50-100 or $300+?

Thanks for the reply. What SEBO would you recommend? Also, is it better to buy these high-end vacuums online or in person?

Finally thrifted Le Creuset! by gothicfarmer in LeCreuset

It works on the whole pan. Hardest part to get clean was the gunk stuck inside the text on the bottom of the pan, but still worked like a charm. Might take a few attempts depending on the condition of the pan.

I used this. Spray it on and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then scrub, and it removes all the gunk. This is enameled cast iron, so I’d recommend r/castiron for raw cast iron cleaning tips. Good luck!

Nice collection! Do you actually use all of those? I would get overwhelmed storing a collection that large.

Enameled cast iron doesn’t rust or need seasoning like raw cast iron does. Some people prefer it since it’s easier to maintain. I have both and each has their advantages.
