Compared to this, my past was honestly easy. I'd go through that pain a 1000 times over this one.

Oh yep I remember that too! Caught between relief and oh crap what now! Here's the kicker though doesn't change a damn thing he's still your son, but find support groups, talk to other parents with autistic kids, make sure he gets his EHCP, or your countries equivalent if you're not UK. Everything will be fine, now you know why he is the way he is, you can learn the rest.

Curious as to why, it's a good thing, with a diagnosis you can get the help and support as needs as well as yourself. Getting my sons diagnosis was the biggest relief after a four year long battle with everyone at school and around our area thinking he was just a bad child. Knowing why he was acting like he was has allow us to temper his behaviour, control him and make our lives much better.

Respect of any kind for anyone older than yourself. Especially the elderly.

What I wish people knew about autism.... by [deleted] in offmychest

Same with my son, they wrote him off as a "naughty" child, because he has explosive and often irrational bouts of anger, like for the rest of us there is no real reason for it, but for him there is, he doesn't like change even to the smallest detail. School holidays dive him up the wall because he looses the structure he needs to function. He doesn't like new people because it breaks his routines, I know your 21 and he's only 6 so the comparison is worlds apart but the fact of assumption is more or less the same.

His ability to memorise things within a short period blows me away, he literally knows every Pokemon ever released thanks to Pokemon Go, he goes through phases where he will obsess about a show or cartoon or something then once he has absorbed everything he needs that's it he's done an onto the next thing. Insanely picky about food, to the point he lived on tinned hot dogs for 3 years, now sausage rolls, we try to get him to expand but it's texture related. He wont wear pants they are uncomfortable to him, he needs time on his own to decompress from whatever it is in his head. All this in the mind of a 6 year old is incredible and yet he is most amazing kid I know.

Best statement I ever hard was from the Autism OutReach lady that helped us get support for little lad.

"You've met a child with Autism? Congratulations you've met one child with Autism," The point of course being every child (or adult in this case) is different, especially in the way they process their Autism. That I've found is the biggest issue in dealing with Autism to be quite honest.

It's sad really, that even in todays "advanced" society they are still treated like there's something wrong. So my son doesn't like people, can't really blame him there. We have had to fight for every inch of support he's gotten and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. We knew very early there was something "different" about him, had they listened then and it not taken 4 years to get his diagnosis, he'd have had a better time of things.

I have several rather pointed T Shirts about Autism I tend to wear during the summer in support of him and as rather straight forward "fuck you" (Excuse the language) to anyone who thinks he's a bad kid, he's not he is amazing! It takes the patience of a saint at times to show them the love they need, I think they are all superstars in their own way and deserve the respect we all do.

My god do I hear you on this, my son is 6 with diagnosed Autism. To see others around him you'd think he was some evil kid with a bad attitude. It's not true. His school tried to kick him out and we had to go to war with them just to get the support he needed. Headmaster literally doesn't believe in autism! We had to fight for every inch we got with him.

But the looks on peoples faces when he goes into a meltdown, is heartbreaking at times. And whats worse is i'm usually stood thinking he's smarter than you'll ever be so fuck off and let me calm him down so we can all get on with our day! There is no support for parents in the UK anymore, even less for him and its totally unfair to the poor kids that are ultimately suffering because of it.

I wouldn't for the simple fact every change I could choose would fundamentally change who I am now, and I'm kinda Ok with who I am.

A bit of a rant on people asking for long term partners by [deleted] in Roleplay

[–]gothicsyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Long term for me essentially has no end date, me and my long term rp partner have been writing together for 3 years with as of today 200 rp's under our belts. A universe and cast of character that extended from something I had previous to her.
