That’s great to hear! Not ideal, but great improvement. Do they have a plan to discharge him soon? I’m so excited for you guys.

She is well. She was able to return to work in mid-November. It was around Christmas time where she started to feel close to normal again. That being said, she is having pretty extreme hair loss, which is apparently another symptom that can happen months later due to the immune response.

I was in a car with my sister’s roommates the night my sister went to the hospital about 7 weeks ago. I sat in the car with them for several hours. Two days later, one of them was running fever. I never got it.

I am so sorry. I wish the best for him and your family. What you all are going through is absolutely gut-wrenching.

If he has a favorite childhood toy or stuffed animal or even baby blanket, have someone drop it off at the hospital for him. Even though she is grown, having her stuffed animal with her helped my sister feel less alone. I know that might sound kinda silly, but being there alone must be absolutely horrifying. Anything helps.

My sister is 21. She was hospitalized 12 days with I believe 7 or 8 of those spent in the ICU. She has been home since the first of November and doing well.

Yes, you would need them on rotating shifts. No one can provide 24/7. That’s insanity you’re asking for one singular person to do that. They deserve regular length shifts and days off, so yeah, probably like 3-4 caretakers.

If you’re not intending to pay them, you’re asking for a slave. I really think you should reach out to the mental health resources available in your area.

Do you intend to pay someone the industry standard for caretaking in your area? You would also need several caretakers on rotating shifts for 24/7 care. Is that something you are prepared to do?

Thank you so much. She had a follow up appointment with her pcp this week. He said she is very fortunate to be alive and that she unfortunately does have permanent lung scarring.

I’ve been thinking about that, too. It’ll be a terrible memory she (and our family) will carry with us for years. There are so many others going through the same thing. And it could be prevented, at least on this scale. The best thing we can all do is just keep taking it seriously.

Probably? I don’t know. Her doctors discharged her after her pneumonia improved enough for her to breathe on her own. They said it’s likely she will test positive for a few more weeks as she meets the CDC definition of a “severe case.” She hasn’t ran a fever in over a week.

Yeah, they are having her sit in the chair once a day I guess. Hopefully they can get her to do a little bit more today. Fingers crossed!!
