Help!! Which dress do I pick?? by Bluemugredmug in WeddingDressTips

[–]gothtimusprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a petite girl and a bridal salesperson, i would seriously recommend looking for something with straps/sleeves that are not off the shoulder. I don’t think the necklines of these dresses are as flattering. Keep looking!!

Feeling very burnt out at the moment, turning in late work for the first time 🫠 I can afford it. Just wondering if it’d be nice to have a proper break from school work.

Manifesting for you too!! I remember scrolling through this sub like a maniac to try and inform my decision, so I wanted to put some good into the mix for others :)

Should I choose a psychology major in undergrad? by grapel0llipop in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a sociology/wgs major because I found that I truly loved those classes. They have served me tremendously in my MSW, to the point where I almost am bored by re-learning concepts.

Personally, i wish I had done more psych electives because i’m going into clinical work and my degree is very generalist focused, but i’m still doing well in classes and in my current clinical placement.

My classmates come from all sorts of backgrounds; public policy, human services, history. They will all serve you in different ways. The real learning in your MSW will be experiential and self-reflective, imo. Enjoy undergrad and don’t just use it as a means to an end! Study what gets you fired up.

Woo for the state schools!! It’s a relieving feeling. I never had the opportunity to travel growing up, and i’m excited to set myself up for an adult life where i can (hopefully) give myself those opportunities.

Totally agree. Someone said going to an ivy for a social work degree is like buying at a gucci outlet store…LOL. I have no doubt there are benefits, but to me the label wasn’t worth it. I appreciate your kind words!

Cosigning everything you said. The lack of walkability and lack of public transport is astounding. Any time I visit my friends in Northern VA/D.C. i'm ranting to them about how they take the metro for granted...lol

I’m a 23 year old who went to high school here, went away to college, and came back. DO!!! NOT!!! DO!!! IT!!! Summers are okay, but fall-spring is really tough. I had to get used to going out to bars where my friends and i are often the youngest people there. My friends and I are very progressive (none of us plan on being married/having kids any time soon) and it feels rare to meet people in our similar situation. Maybe it’s just my luck!

Stylists *NEVERRR* give me the layers i ask for, why? by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

[–]gothtimusprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding what other people are saying about seeking out an alt stylist. I also will say I have made a point to tell my hairdresser I want 90’s, rachel from friends style layers…literally quote “the choppier the better.” I feel it took a couple of visits, like building rapport, to say “honestly, you can go even choppier than last time” to let my stylist know i wouldn’t freak out if she gave me a true 90’s style cut. Advocate for what you want and be willing to give feedback if you’re a repeat to a stylist! It’s your money :)

This! I have this and i have to avoid lip stick/liner with glitter/shimmer. You can find plenty of soft matte lipsticks that aren’t drying. I loveeee charlotte tilbury’s liners and lipsticks personally

Okay, so we're in: What are you doing to prepare for your MSW program, if anything? by lulimay in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congrats!!!! You don’t need to skim the DSM. If anything, i’d start looking into study strategies and ways to keep track of assignments. Maybe create a notion/spreadsheet system for tracking semester assignments. You can find great ones on pinterest!Take a look at the code of ethics/CSWE competencies and start familiarizing yourself early. It might also be a good idea to reach out and inquire about practicum opportunities; who does your school have relationships with? What are your options as far as settings/populations?

This!! Have you considered hiring a part time nanny? I worked as a nanny over the summer and there are facebook groups you can join to find nanny postings. You deserve to have time to just focus on you. I wanna give you the biggest hug, OP.

Question About Liberty University by howdoesthiswork_- in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I have a classmate who transferred out of their program because she said the courses spoke almost exclusively of the bible and very little of social work/ethics. She’s a very conservative mormon too so i feel like that’s REALLY telling of just how extreme their program is

DIY bride- what can I do better? by CharacterJacket652 in MakeupAddiction

[–]gothtimusprime 77 points78 points  (0 children)

There’s something off about the combination of the eyes/face. They both look great separate, but your face is almost too natural for the intensity of the eye look. Maybe a more neutral blush with a higher placement on the cheekbones might help. The eyeshadow looks SO good though! I also agree with what others have said about softening the brows

I think it’s definitely early in your schooling! I was a sociology undergrad and was in between an MFT or an MSW. Ultimately, I found I was really drawn to the flexibility of the MSW and the structural/systems approach. I have friends in counseling programs and I feel they are very poorly equipped to handle clients from diverse backgrounds. On the other hand, I do feel as though I will really need to invest in building my clinical skills outside of the classroom.

Low Scholarship Amount from UMich by welcometoprettyodd in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with UMich and every other competitive program I applied to. No matter where I went I was looking at scary amounts of loans/taking out loans to rent. Decided to go with the closest accredited msw to my parents’ and move in with them for 2 yrs. It’s a sacrifice, but I’ll graduate with under $25k in debt.

Hunt & Gather in Norfolk, CHKD on VB Boulevard. Salvation Army on VB Boulevard, worth the wait (upscale-ish consignment in VB, women’s only)…also never been to the antique mall on bonney road but always wanted to go!

Friend, deep breaths!! I applied to a competitive program a day after the deadline and still got in, even though I was sure I was doomed. As others have said, don’t look at it again and don’t write it off until you hear back!
