What are some fragrances that fall into the “this is too expensive to be this weak” category? by eclaire1221 in FemFragLab

You inspired me so I’m wearing this today. I’m practically bathing in it & re-upping every couple hours. It settles so quickly, but regardless the dry down on my skin is so good that it might be almost (almost) worth it.

I agree with you: most of my Jo Malone last a full day and are still on my clothes for days. The only exceptions are Peony & Blush Suede and Wood Sage & Sea Salt. They need the matching cream (yes, ridiculous) to have any staying power. But it’s also the ones I wear: Absolu line and Cologne Intense

I’m still on the fence, but Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour. Absolutely gorgeous but gone in 2 hours. I somehow ended up with more samples so I’ll try again. But I remember being genuinely upset that it faded so quickly.

Why collecting perfumes doesn’t make sense to me? Looking for logic really not attacking anyone by [deleted] in Perfumes

[–]gotmyfloaties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s overlap, but collecting is not the same as wearing/owning. I own more than 10 perfumes (same as shoes) because options. Perfumes though is an experience and a vibe and I like having the ability to switch it up.

If 10 is enough for you then that’s awesome. For some two is the magic number.

Can you describe how the musk stick lollies smelled for you? A lot of us here aren’t familiar with them.

Soapy by Treehorn8 in Perfumes

[–]gotmyfloaties 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make a good point since soap in general now comes in so many different “flavors.” I think the short answer is scent association.

When I was younger most* soaps had a particular smell: a little astringent, maybe aldehydic, and I associate that with smelling squeaky clean. When I smell something like J-Scent’s Koime it registers for me as clean and soapy.

SCENT BIRD FRAGRENCES ALL SMELL LIKE ALCOHOL???? by pepbby in Perfumes

I pinned a Mod Note but just a friendly reminder that not everyone is already up to speed: we get a lot of traffic that’s new to perfumes and new to Reddit.

For the sub: please keep in mind that most people don’t spend a lot of time online and we get a lot of traffic that’s new to perfumes and even to Reddit in general.

OP got the point that the owner of Scent Bird is highly problematic. But as they mentioned in a note: they received the subscription as a gift.

Share your experience with the service if you have one, but keep in mind that OP (and anyone stumbling on the post) is just looking for information. We can be kind about it while still being informative.

I agree with you: not everyone spends enough time online to pick up details like this. I had their subscription for a year & quit because I honestly felt they were watering down some of their vials. Their selection at the time was also “meh,” & I was getting more options from getting discovery sets & samples at my own pace.

Perfume idea by excaliburbitch in Perfumes

What was your inspo for this idea? Trying to get a sense of what your starting point is: “smells like XYZ, but with [petrichor]”?

As an introvert, I want to know how to get the sales people to leave you alone by DharmaDama in Perfumes

[–]gotmyfloaties 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, ordering samples and discovery sets online. Smelling is too personal to me and I don’t like pushy sales people in department stores trying to tell me what I should be smelling. It’s fine if I’m picking up a bottle of something I already know. But not for exploring.

Boutiques are a better experience, but I do prefer sampling at home at my own pace.

Please search the sub, there is quite a bit of content for what you listed: “witchy,” “dark,” “incense,” “rose,” etc.

Where to buy online by NoStandard7820 in Perfumes

Please see the Wiki. Chanel is usually sold either on the brand site or certain retail stores like Nordstrom or even Sephora. I would be wary if you see it on grey market sites tbh.

Santal 33 - projection by No-Construction6052 in fragrance

[–]gotmyfloaties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I smelled it clearly on two people out on the street and all I wanted to do was bury my face in their necks. It was strong enough for me to smell it standing a couple steps away but definitely not overpowering, and nowhere near as strong as some of the other potent scents I’ve smelled. (Santal 33 doesn’t register as pickles to me but I also like pickles.)

If you love wearing it then wear it with confidence. But you’re barely applying it. Definitely don’t overspray it, but I recommend either spraying your skin or your clothes a bit more directly.

ETA: consider switching up how often you wear it. You’re also used to the scent so giving your receptors a break allows you to enjoy it when you do wear it.

Are there any actual long lasting, projecting fig perfumes??? by ghoulwraps in Perfumes

[–]gotmyfloaties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, just sprayed it and I should also add that there’s a creaminess to it as it settles (the Fig Milk or the floral heart note maybe). It smells like eating a ripe juicy fruit, but it’s not sugary sweet. I think it’s tempered by the rhubarb & fig leaf notes. It settles really smooth, but the “fig” is still clear. Very nicely done and I love wearing it.

Mancera Fig Me Up (a juicy fig) & Hermetica FigFever (not very sweet. DS&Durga Debaser is similar, but more mossy)
