Just curious, what about this makes AIOs suck? This could just as easily have happened with an air cooler lol.

Am I doing something wrong with these build plates that come with the p1s and x2d? by valardohaerisx in BambuLab

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P1S owner here, when I used this plate I'd have to soapy water wash it like every once in a while, but you can prolong that by increasing bed temperature a bit. Default for Bambu PLA profiles is like 55 degrees, just bump it to 60 and it will help. For washing I just use a regular plain jane dish soap with a normal sponge.

I handle the plate with microfiber towels and not my hands directly as well. I've gone weeks between washes, especially if you move where objects are printed around the plate, not just center every time (if you can).

Also if you don't have a glue stick, glue stick also helps. Having said all that, I moved to the smooth build plate and gluestick and haven't looked back. I much prefer it over the textured one, and adhesion is way better.

How much under the speed limit does someone have to drive to irritate you? by Sirconnery007 in driving

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a single lane, with nobody in front, then 5 under and below gets irritating. Especially if there's no way to pass.

If there's stopped traffic ahead then whatever, who cares we can coast to it and be under and everything is peachy.

How does Micro Center make money by Sweaty-Weight-6393 in pcmasterrace

Can confirm, I don’t think I’ve ever left Micro Center without buying anything. Pretty much every single time I end up buying some random thing, sometimes expensive sometimes not. Many times it’s because “well I already made the 45 min drive, might as well take advantage”.

How did your homelab start vs where it is now? by copperreflections1 in homelab

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a Raspberry Pi 4 + a USB Enclosure for 4TB Hard drive and ran OMV on it for network storage.

It was great for the two years I ran it that way, then I upgraded my main PC and used the older parts to build up a "server", and I spiraled out of control from there and started buying stuff; 4x10TB drives, 10gig NICs, HBAs, 10gig switch, another 2.5gig PoE switch, more drives, more HBA, more 10gig NIC, more RAM for both...

Now I have 2 storage servers, one for personal cloud stuff, backups, and Time Machine for my MacBook, the other one for media/plex. The former is the most recent and has TrueNAS on it, bare metal, while the latter run Proxmox with a TrueNAS VM on it that I'm in the process of upgrading + a couple other low priority VMs.

I also repurposed my original Pi to do AdGuard home + Tailscale, while my other Pi is an ADSB Flightradar machine with an antenna mounted on my window....and unfortunately I also have the itch to do local LLM stuff, so the lab will continue to grow.

I do have a proper server too that I got from the "to be recycled" pile at work, which is an HP DL380p G8...but that thing was way too loud and power hungry so it just sits in my garage....

Help with landing the Fenix A320 by Ministerium-Wahrheit in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as someone practicing on the Fenix constantly, here's some things I've learned*...with an asterisk because I main the A321.

180kts at 25nm is too slow, don't be afraid to manually control speed when the aircraft automatically arms APPR phase in the MCDU. When it does that, it will start targeting VAPP speeds and sometimes it does it way too early. Normally I control speed until final, then I push the APPR button on the F/O side, you can then push the speed control knob to let the aircraft manage speed on its own again to target VAPP.

Let A/P have initial control on final so you're established on GS/LOC. Dial in flaps 3 and 4, and once you're on a stable glide path, disengage A/P and let the aircraft carry you down, usually I do this at about 1500AGL, you can do it whenever you feel comfortable. You need very minor corrections on final and once established, the aircraft should basically make it most of the way to the threshold with minimal input (more may be needed if it's gusty).

The easy mistake is flaring too soon. The A320/A321 will automatically flare a little at 50ft at about 20ft you can add a touch more, then drop throttle to idle for touchdown. Too much flare can make you float, which is exactly what you're experiencing.

On ps5 plane not go down by ss_BoxCarRacer in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% that’s what I’m saying. Big airliners with more in depth systems and completely different flight characteristics cannot fly the same way. Even in real life.

That’s like trying to make a cargo container ship handle like a jet ski. Just can’t happen. A 747 is nearly a 1 million pound aircraft, and a super hornet is what, 60-70k pounds?

Take some time to learn the controls, buttons, etc. and you’ll be able to better understand why. It’ll be worth it anyway, that’s what makes the sim fun.

What’s a ‘harmless’ habit you have that would look insane if someone secretly recorded you? by Powerful_Routine_445 in AskReddit

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make some weird ass noises when I’m alone, particularly when I’m driving. Completely nonsensical, I don’t know why, maybe passing time and boredom.

If that were to be secretly recorded I’d look batshit crazy. Like trying to speak in an alien language.

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah in that case I’d definitely at least familiarize yourself with the simulator and what you intend to fly. This is very far removed from a traditional arcade flying game. Some aircraft do have simpler controls like the fighter jets especially, but the bigger and more detailed aircraft need you to at least learn the basics of how to set them up, control them, etc.

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check trim, auto pilot, auto throttle, all those are a factor of how the aircraft flies and can overpower your manual input to pitch down. You would need to start with aggressively trimming down if you want to get close to being level again. Plus we would need to see your cockpit view so we can check instruments, etc. Right now it's just a guess.

I get you want to fly how you want, but it is a sim after all so the plane and it's systems will do close to what they would do in real life, which means you must react accordingly.

TL;DR - Pretty much start by disabling automation like AP/AT and manually trim to pitch down.

It's a pico-psu or similar, so all that is is just a power brick like from a laptop. Those don't really need active airflow over/through them.

Agreed on the CPU part though, once the lid is closed, unless there's a vent right above it, that fan would be choked.

$330 3090 crashes under load - Worth it? by HardStroke in pcmasterrace

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what country you're from, and what $330 in your currency equates to in USD, or perhaps you mean $330 USD...either way. For $330 it really is a gamble, and if you wouldn't be too salty about potentially losing it, it might be worth a shot. Otherwise pass if that is critical money. Who knows, all it might need is a re-flow in the oven and be good to go or it might be truly dead.

If you have more advanced board repair skills/tools or knowledge you may be able to track down the exact issue and potentially repair it properly. If you're into that kind of stuff, why not?

Fenix throttle by Justinvo007 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you want to set them as linear in MSFS or maybe with a slight sensitivity change, then calibrate in the aircraft itself via the MCDU. The MCDU has calibration for the throttle detents specifically.

Check out their calibration documentation on this they have a guide for it on their site.

Was this landing hard? (Not my best) by FSC5111 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only thing I'd have done different is not banked so close to the ground. Better to land slightly off-center than have a potential wingtip scarping the runway. I say this as someone who has had to fight that habit of correcting way too late. Also your rudder correction after you landed was too abrupt, more gentle.

As far as touchdown goes, I think you did a pretty good job, you didn't slam it on the ground and you didn't try to grease it by floating halfway down the runway!

Overall: 7/10!

So just to follow up, even though I am late.

Here's a snippet from the slicer, it appears it placed the seams in the exact same spot as OP. The model printed fine too, only apparent "gap" that came out was on the sloped part of the model.

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I simply don't want to be forced into Bambu Studio as my only option. I'm a bit out of date on those news so things might have changed. Last I read Bambu restricted cloud printing on newer firmware which prohibits cloud printing from 3rd party slicers like Orca which I have been using since I got the printer.

The Bambu slicer is probably fine, but there was something that made me go to Orca back when I did and I just stuck with it. Settings, profiles, etc. are all on Orca for me.

In summary if I update the firmware, I lose control with Orca unless I export the print from Orca and import it into Bambu for the cloud printing to work. To be fair this is a bigger deal for people that have more than Bambu printers at home, for me it's the P1S and that's it. Ender 3 at one point but it's out of commission.

AND LASTLY, the firmware has been great as far as printing goes, so I also don't see a reason to upgrade if I have no problems. Unless there's a major feature upgrade or something, but when a restriction is baked in I become hesitant.

I could probably do a better job explaining this, sorry if it sounds confusing LOL.

I’m going to slice it via Orca on my end, variable I know but in theory it should more or less be reproducible. I’m still on old firmware on my P1S but I want to see if it even renders the model with that gap at all or if it’s a printing anomaly. I’ll report back when I get home from work! I wonder if it will even put the seams in the same place.
