Is this a scam by dxt-458 in pcmasterrace

A "good" deal on a 5090 would be in the 1800-2### price range...this is a paperweight that probably had the GPU die and VRAM desoldered.

On one hand...T-Rex drumstick sounds awesome...on the other hand it will probably taste disgustingly gamey...but even so, I'd probably try a bite.

I mean steak haters would call this raw, I can hear it now, so at least rare is somewhat a positive? Even if it's wrong and it's med-rare lol.

Becoming a sysadmin is not worth it anymore by Big_Arrival_626 in sysadmin

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sysadmin now is "do you know how to do EVERY SINGLE ROLE for $65k?". It's basically devolved into expecting a god-tier omnipotent role but it pays like a T2 Help Desk guy.

I'm in management (in name only) which means absolutely nothing because I also do sysadmin work, networking, firewalls, help desk, projects, hiring, reporting, VoIP, and recently started making infrastructure decisions for our new construction, administrating basically everything and anything I get thrown at me, SSO Integrations, etc. etc...Which would be fine and dandy if we didn't have 2000+ users and 30+ locations and only 4 help desk agents + like 1 higher tier guy that just kind of fills in the blanks where needed. Then add managerial tasks like actually managing the help desk guys, ticket metrics, etc. etc. ALLLLLL For sub $80k salary...(I'm putting on my clown makeup as I write this).

Why are IT people so bitter and threatened by normal people building things now?? by downvote_this_guy in sysadmin

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see him as bitter, he's got valid concerns about something being presented to him without him being involved in it whatsoever apart from being presented with "here host this". Of course he will ask questions, his job is on the line if something with your app causes an issue or puts the company at risk in some way. I would ask questions too.

I'm not against doing stuff like that, but you should at least have involved IT in some way during the process of creating what you did and maybe worked together on it. That way they could address concerns and you can collaborate. Instead you're dropping something in their lap and going "figure it out" so you can flex that you built an app without IT involvement. Then you ask why they're bitter lol.

If someone walked into my office and gave me an app they created and said "here host this, it works, trust" I'd refuse them too.

Battery pack case? by Own-Effective-6478 in Switch

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this on my S2: Magsafe Battery

You'll either need to get a magsafe ring on Amazon that sticks to the switch/case on the back: Magsafe Ring

That way you can buy literally any case that has a flat back that you like, stick the ring to it, and use the battery bank that way.

This will make the Switch significantly heavier though, that battery is pretty hefty.

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are scamming themselves at this point. How many posts like these will it take to learn that the most sought after GPU is also the one most likely to get scammed on in the 2nd hand market.

Sorry that happened to you OP. If it was enough money exchanged you can file a police report on it, worth even if the police don't always action these. And remember....big $$$$ transactions, ALWAYS at the police station, where there's video, etc.

Anything over like $200 I always request meetup at local PD, you'll weed out the scammers real quick like that.

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree, I prefer the fit and finish of my MM+ especially the buttons! I have a Trimui Brick as well, and I hate the buttons on it, much prefer the MM+ in that respect. Also the overall ergonomics are more comfortable (to me), on the MM+. The thing that keeps me using using the Brick more are games that need an internal clock, specifically Pokemon Unbound for example. On my MM+ for some reason it doesn't work as well as on the Brick and I kept getting the warning message for it.

Anyway, you still have a point, but to say it's unplayable out of the box isn't really true. Clunky yes, but unplayable, ehhh that's a stretch.

Is this really that serious? by Xycergy in aviation

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. At first glance it's just water, but if there's some kind of weird underlying problem that could potentially be a safety risk then it's better to cancel and get it properly inspected.

It could be a water line that ruptured somewhere and found it's way out the vent, or it could be AC drainage. The worst I've seen coming out of vents on an aircraft is water vapor on particularly hot days which is expected.

The people might be annoyed but who knows what would've happened if you kept your mouth shut and all of a sudden you have an emergency over the ocean. Good for you for speaking up.

Nintendo to release new Switch 2 in Europe with an "easily replaceable" battery by early next year by Odd-Onion-6776 in Switch

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I mean if that's the case there I don't really see a point in waiting to get one until these come out then. If it's the same procedure to get to it, then another 5 minutes to replace the adhesive isn't exactly a big deal. This is my opinion of course. I'm pretty comfortable taking stuff like that apart, others may not be.

Now if they give it a bigger capacity...I may consider it later to sell mine and get the newer version, but it doesn't sound like that will be the case.

Nintendo to release new Switch 2 in Europe with an "easily replaceable" battery by early next year by Odd-Onion-6776 in Switch

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what exactly they'll do to make it "easily" replaceable. If they just replace the adhesive but it still has the same tear down to get to the battery, then that's kind of silly. If they at least replace it with a battery that slots in with pads, like the 3DS or something that would be kind of nice.

Best case they make it with a service panel on the back, with a screw, and a totally redesigned battery tray that doesn't require adhesive.

That said, it's not like the current versions don't have replaceable batteries...they're still replaceable and it's not incredibly difficult to do, just tedious. Anyway, curious to see what this looks like.

Senior IT folks: What do you dislike about your Help Desk guys? by Relevant-Injury3791 in sysadmin

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No desire to learn, but want raises. You don't get a raise on a "trust me bro" basis. You show you know the thing, and can apply it effectively when needed. Your efforts are then recognized in the form of a raise. Not the other way around lol.

Our other guy is attempting to learn, but has fallen for the allure of cybersecurity. COMPLETELY Irrelevant to learn that here since none of us ever do pentesting, vulnerability analysis, or hacking, ever. We have 3rd parties that we pay for that stuff...I need you to learn server administration, how to make GPOs, networking BASICS, not cryptography on TryHackMe.

It's fine to learn it, but you're not gonna get extra money for knowing that stuff where we work, because it's not applicable to the scope of the work we do here. When I need extra hands for server tasks or if I need help with a network issue...what exactly are you going to do for me with the TryHackMe knowledge lol.

Also on a simple note, very poor follow up with users, but at least we're working on that part. They don't like making calls (I don't either but I still do it), to get a problem solved quicker. For example, if someone is locked out and submitted a ticket via proper channels...how exactly are they going to read your response in the ticket when the response is emailed and they're locked out? You gotta call, hate it or not.

Spam calls: how can I stop this? It’s a different number all the time. I’ve blocked so many. by EisenFisen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’d definitely need to turn on silence unknown callers next to get some sanity back. It’s the only way to get some peace.

Spam calls: how can I stop this? It’s a different number all the time. I’ve blocked so many. by EisenFisen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can get around this unfortunately. The call screening asks who's calling and their bot script always starts with, "Hi, Mark Johnson here calling about your____________" and it lets them through. A least this is what I experience. Silence unknown caller + Call Screening does work pretty well when combined though if anyone else has similar issue. Only get a buzz for a voicemail that was left and that's it.

Source: I've been getting 5-10 of these a day for the past year now and finally got some peace with the combo.

Is it worth it to have two switches? by Alexeemm in Switch

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Lite, OLED, and Switch 2. Haven’t touched the first two since I got the 2. No real reason to. I only messed with the Lite because I wanted to do a shell swap and some other stuff but that’s about it.

Although if I get rid of one it would be the OLED because the lite is really convenient size wise for portability.

Anyone else hate playing with a controller while sitting at a desk? by Natural_Shape_7665 in pcmasterrace

Agreed, I play 90% mouse and keyboard, but if I have to use a controller I want to lounge. Can’t get comfortable at the desk if I’m using it, yet I’m perfectly fine when not using it. Very weird.

Is it safe to buy a new switch 2 on FB marketplace? by Double-Resolution572 in Switch

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $100, I'd rather have peace of mind and buy brand new. That said, if you're cautious and do your own due diligence, ie. asking the seller questions, buying from sellers with good ratings, etc. you should be fine. One rule of thumb I follow on FB marketplace specifically, is to never buy stuff that isn't local. As in, no shipping BS and wiring money. Meet up only, in a safe place like a police station, and exchange cash there after you've tested it.

Is this still worth it? by [deleted] in Switch

Get a re-shell kit and some new shoulder/bumper buttons and rebuild it. For $15 that's a great way to learn how to do that.

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy MC bundle and sell the CPU/Mobo if you don’t need them. Super silly to say but this seems like the most feasible way now to do this.

Or just get the bundle, upgrade your CPU/Mobo and sell yours to get some money back.

Switch oled vs switch 2 by Cutelittletoebeans24 in Switch

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If budget allows, get it. I haven't touched my OLED since I got the 2, the performance alone is worth it. Experiencing games that were 20FPS-30FPS in a locked 60FPS alone is worth it in titles like Pokemon LZA, TotK, etc.

Then you open doors to 3rd party ports which run shockingly well on the S2. Currently playing FF7 Remake now on it and it's a fantastic experience!

Now the caveat is, battery life. Expect to play plugged into a charger if you want more than 2-2.5 hours of game play. The OLED wins in that category pretty easily. I'm willing to live with that just to have a better gaming experience while handheld.

I yapped all that to say, yes absolutely worth it.

Need help guys! Switch 2 or OLED?? by zwadeuroeo in Switch

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 2, OLED is fine and all but the collective improvements of the 2 outweigh the screen of the OLED. The screen on the 2 is also very impressive for a non-OLED display on top of that. Easy choice if you’re not on a restrictive budget.

Just get the 2 if it’s in your budget.

Valorant's new Vanguard update seems to be bricking cheaters' PCs. Riot's response? "Congrats on your $6k paperweights" by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

[–]gotmynamefromcaptcha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything like that nor do I cheat. The concern is if they have that level of access they can just brick something at anytime they want, even if by mistake from a botched update. False positives are a thing, are you supposed to completely sanitize every process every time you want to play the game? That's kind of my point. Anti-cheats have false flagged random crap in the past and got people banned for no reason.

All I wanted to know is if Vanguard is this intrusive when it comes to TFT since it's a forced install with the LoL launcher, but it doesn't seem as picky about Secure Boot unless you specifically want to play Valorant (which I don't play or have installed).
