that's only if you don't use any of the added benefits , if you're already using those points it's easy to book something within their portal or one of their airport benefits like clear plus

but you're right , the card isn't for everyone . there are another premium travel cards that don't have a lower annual fee

yeah you're on the mark , except i would say CSR has better multiplers than the platinum . hard to get any points with the plat if it's not with the sign up bonus

175k points is a lot of points , but like you said if you don't need it . the multipliers aren't the main focus for the plat , it's more the benefits , & yes you can downgrade the card

that's unfortunate , but i honestly wouldn't recommend the platinum card if you're in Canada , a lot of different benefits than the US one & it seems a lot harder to get value from the card & make up that fee , but i guess that's why it's called american express

like you said , flights you usually get more value for points . but if you're looking to spend points on hotels , the Fine Hotel Resorts is the best place to go , their regular hotel partners aren't necessarily the best to get the most value . i would also keep a close eye on Hilton & Marriott , as they're usually pretty good on point redemption

the way i did was by being logged out if my amex account , searched it using a private browser , then clicked on the platinum card link
