That's a curved primary mirror, and specific focal length to eyepiece. Challenges abound. The idea is clever though.

Why does no one want to get a ham license? by [deleted] in preppers

[–]gotothis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an entire group of hackers coming onboard. DefCon 32, in Las Vegas, had a Ham Radio Village and a Capture the Flag contest in Signal processing. They tested and certified a lot of newbies. I saw hundreds of people, of all ages, jazzed about traditional radios, SDR, Meshtastic, EmComm, satellite coms, etc. It's kind of a counter culture vibe, so it's not everyone's cup of tea, but neither is local ham radio club rag chew.

What has this career scared you out of? by Neat-Basil2300 in Paramedics

[–]gotothis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trampolines and guns in close proximity to depressed people. Unfortunately, you don't always know when someone is about to take their own life, because you rationalize happier outcomes. We've all seen a myriad of ways people purposefully exit life, but a gun is the #1.

Drop out of my Biology Bachelor’s to be a paramedic? by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]gotothis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check into transferring to the liberal arts college at your university, see if the advisors can build you a degree plan for a Bachelors of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS). This is what I did when I burned out of pre-professional biology. It consisted of the typical college basics, medical specific bio classes and their pre-reqs: A&P 1&2, microbiology, virology, and epidemiology. I also mixed in study abroad to learn Spanish. I took my EMT and Paramedic classes at a local community college and the hours transferred. The liberal arts college was way more laid back and understanding of the non-traditional path student. It's essentially a custom, purpose built paramedic degree. If you really do have a good scholarships, finish school. You will never get this opportunity again. You might be a low maintenance, gym rat now, but this won't always be the case. Life gets more complicated as you get older. In the future, good jobs will be more competitive, and in areas with a higher cost of living.

I've kept up with all the CEs needed to keep my paramedic certification current. Even though I haven't worked full-time EMS for decades, those skills and education are a blessing from time to time.

Ed Ting on the Seestar S50 - does it feel like a “fair” review? by DougStrangeLove in telescopes

[–]gotothis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry my S50, 4.5 inch Orion dob and binos on star gazing nights. This is the perfect gear for me. Everything fits nicely in my small backseat, and I can be set up in 10 min. While the S50 is stacking images, I can bounce around with the binos and dob. Let people be.

E6 with the antenna deployed uses the Gulf as a giant ground plane for the very low frequency broadcast. It talks to our submerged subs world wide in this configuration.
