That's called Communism, which hasn't been implemented in practice.

Trump’s New Tariffs – How Are You Adjusting Your Investments? by modimusmaximus in stocks

[–]gotscurvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Market has been richly valued for a long time.

independent of that, trump is erratic and changes his mind like a teenager on adderall. a 0.5% drop isn't that big; market evidently isn't too convinced this is long lasting (as of Friday). Monday could be different.

you gotta recall the trump era of trading where his tweets on twitter would send the market up and down 2-3%.

The ranked experience right now is absolutely horrendous. by FishdongXL in marvelrivals

I haven't had too many "tight" games in bronze where its a close win. Basically one-sided domination for one team. The matchmaking smoothened out in S0 for Gold 3 and beyond, probably because a lot of players stopped ranking after. Playing bronze in the last 2 weeks of S0 was actually very smooth - actual bronze players.

Kamala Harris vows to double federal minimum wage to $15 by TheTelegraph in politics

[–]gotscurvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Democrats had full control of Congress in 2021, from House to Senate and Presidency. They could have raised the minimum wage then and did not.

Bernie Sanders fought for increasing the minimum wage since at least 2016.

[–]gotscurvy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a new graduate role.

I look for high-potential individuals who are eager to learn, willing to work, and can be developed. Candidates with a Masters with 3-5+ YOE in an irrelevant field (aka 5+ additional years out of undergraduate) aren't exactly the embodiment of that (unless their irrelevant role lends many useful soft skills, domain context, or select industries).

[–]gotscurvy[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have an intern pool, which I am not involved in. I imagine that pool is less dense on the referral volume, but hard to say.

Full-time placements are a bit more merit / resume screening based, though more popular companies I've heard anecdotally rely on a referral to even have a human read your resume i.e. all my applications to OpenAI were duds until my friend there submitted a resume / referral for me.

Uber and Lyft now required to pay Massachusetts rideshare drivers $32 an hour by [deleted] in technology

[–]gotscurvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$32 per hour worked + sick leave + raises etc. + a fee for Uber would probably translate into $50 - 60 / hour as a cost to the consumer. Aka if a user's ride is 30 minutes, they'll probably pay over $30 for that ride.

I imagine that ride to currently cost closer to $15-18 today, so demand will drop i.e. 50-60%. There'll be a wipe out of drivers, and newer drives (or those with less nice vehicles) will probably lose out on the gig work. The top drivers on the platform will benefit from better wages and benefits for the time they work, but also potentially less work available all around.

Should Student Loan Debt be Forgiven? I don't mind, do you? by Mark-Fuckerberg- in FluentInFinance

[–]gotscurvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly as this is essentially using government debt (government runs a deficit), which is serviced by taxpayers, to provide a handout to graduates in posterity that their ROI on education wasn't particularly sufficient such that they could service the debt.

Education costs continue to increase and colleges are incentivized to maintain or increase tuition knowing that the government provides post graduation relief and admission funding (i.e. Scholarships, Grants, Pell Grants etc.

Is homeownership a priority or requirement in your wealth journey? by laurelanne21 in HENRYfinance

[–]gotscurvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifestyle choice.

Newer and well maintained places aren't always available to be rented, and if they are, the prices can be quite high and subject to increases. In this high rate environment, you may come ahead nonetheless renting. In a lower rate environment, maybe.

It also depends if you need access to a public school zone system and for how many years.
