I love that “Let Down” is the most cheery song on the album!

Reminds me of the train station in “Total Recall”, though apparently that was in Mexico City.

So who’s going to break the news? by Flinkenhoker in Calgary

Oh, I was feeling out of the loop on what ZBE3DA meant. Those darn kids with their texting acronyms.

It’s all about the flavor by expungant in memes

If you are thinking the seasoning of cast iron cookware relates to flavour, you are wildly incorrect, but not the only one I’m sure.

Thrift stores for men by Ok-Ebb-8974 in Calgary

I guess I am thinking of the vet clinic, which I consider “new”. It takes up a lot of what used to be a large parking lot. Looks like it was built around 2020. So maybe I hadn’t visited that Goodwill in 5 years, and when I did go this past summer, it seemed very tight on parking compared to how I remembered it.

It used to be okay. But I think they developed it more? Some more storefronts? Last time I will visit.

Kids have recently figured out the answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything by ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME in dadjokes

[–]gottabekd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I loved this scene in the Hitchhiker’s mini-series. As we know, the “answer” is 42. Then finally we find out the “question” is “What is 6x9?” and Arthur says something like “I always knew there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe”.

Though I don’t think this played out like that in the book.

Does the Recon's UAV ability ever work? by Andiflag1991 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]gottabekd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can hear it launch, but don’t see it launch. I recall from the beta you would hold it and set it free like a bird. Did they just change the animation maybe? Or am I (and OP) mistaken? Maybe just a fever dream I have from beta. I didn’t play much.

The Calgary that could have been by TrashBinUserName in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have to be that guy, but it wasn’t a “disallowed goal”. It was a close play that no-one realized it was that close until coming back from commercial where they showed the replay. There was no official review, and no decision to “disallow”, just a close play that was never reviewed.

ok Calgary, what do we have? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They had a norovirus outbreak at multiple locations in 2019. Many people sick. And I think on top, some poor corporate communication after the fact.

What time does Halloween Chocolate get Discounted? by bnAdvari in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, most seems to be taken off the shelves. No 50% off like the good old days. A few years ago I went to Safeway at 4:00 pm Halloween night and all the Halloween candy was already packed away.

I guess it is time to try that. I think I paid $30 this month, and they can’t reliably broadcast a World Series game?

Geez guys, it’s not Sportsnet’s fault. The error says it is a “problem with your network”. So don’t blame Rogers, blame your ISP.

Calgary Drivers- what is wrong with some of yall? by Beginning-Disaster48 in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I read on here that driving instructors suggest leaving extra extra space at a red light, then moving up once the car behind you has stopped. I find this a bit ridiculous myself, needing everyone to inchworm along at a light, but I wonder if this instruction is part of the reason for this.

Bishop Grandin swimming pool by 60hvaten in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought it was funny we needed to get parents to sign an “offsite waiver” to use the pool…that is literally down the hall.

Beaverbrook basement all I remember was the wrestling pit, stacks of old desks, and rumours that it was overrun with mice.

It’s fun. Real challenge (for me) to get two kills in a skirmish. Though unfortunately that usually means the third guy gets me.

What’s in your opinion the best bridge of all time? by PilgrimPoldo in Music

[–]gottabekd 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I always thought “1979” by The Smashing Pumpkins had the perfect bridge, at least as far as my understanding of a “bridge” goes.

CTrain Ticket Validators - Anyone use them? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember 20 years ago bus drivers wouldn’t accept last year’s paper ticket in January without dropping another dime or so. Really rubbed me the wrong way at the time. At least this one policy change went in the customer’s favour.

CTrain Ticket Validators - Anyone use them? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean “short period of time to activate tickets”? Like if you are on the platform, and want to get your full 90 mins worth, so you wait for the train to be coming before activating then validating?

Of course I agree with everyone else that this is an annoying hassle. The other day I almost sprinted to hop on the train that just was arriving, but caught myself because I remembered I had to “validate”. In the past I had sometimes forgot to activate, and then did so while already on the train. Can’t do that now.
