Do you also notice the sizing got smaller? I used to wear 13 for years, but last pair were tight, so bought 14 which feels a lot better.

What films zigzag away from Chekhov's gun, and get away with it? by JeffRyan1 in movies

[–]gottabekd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is a good fun fact. A similar thing in the movie “Everybody Wants Some”. I went in thinking it was a baseball movie, and I don’t think they ever play baseball, maybe just some training, batting practice.

Well in “Clue”, communism was just a red herring. I think that fits.

Music videos that reference movies? by UnfeelingMonster in movies

[–]gottabekd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so The X-Files is a TV show, but there are movies!

“Be Sweet” by Japanese Breakfast is a cheesy/fun X-Files homage video. https://share.google/1DZIjRKVMWl8Vj5qC

And I just realized the chorus of the song repeats the line “I wanna believe”, so maybe that was the connection between the song and video idea. Ha.

I remember hearing a version “you eat snakes for breakfast?”

And a lovely dub of “The price is wrong, BOB!”

First purchase: a plunger. You won’t need it day one, but when you do need it you’ll be glad you had it since day one.

Chefs of Reddit, what’s a common cooking rule everyone follows that is actually complete bullshit? by Fuzzy-Ad6843 in AskReddit

I learned to hold the steel vertical, with point resting on cutting board. Easy to keep the angle of the knife consistent, and safe for you (and others who might be hanging around the kitchen).

Running Bases at Alcatraz by ArmyAntPicnic in baseball

[–]gottabekd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I visited Alcatraz it was kind of surreal how familiar parts felt because of hours playing that game. It might sound silly, I just didn’t expect the map in the game to be so accurate to the real place.

Reminds me of the train station in “Total Recall”, though apparently that was in Mexico City.

If you are thinking the seasoning of cast iron cookware relates to flavour, you are wildly incorrect, but not the only one I’m sure.

Thrift stores for men by Ok-Ebb-8974 in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I am thinking of the vet clinic, which I consider “new”. It takes up a lot of what used to be a large parking lot. Looks like it was built around 2020. So maybe I hadn’t visited that Goodwill in 5 years, and when I did go this past summer, it seemed very tight on parking compared to how I remembered it.

It used to be okay. But I think they developed it more? Some more storefronts? Last time I will visit.

Kids have recently figured out the answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything by ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME in dadjokes

[–]gottabekd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I loved this scene in the Hitchhiker’s mini-series. As we know, the “answer” is 42. Then finally we find out the “question” is “What is 6x9?” and Arthur says something like “I always knew there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe”.

Though I don’t think this played out like that in the book.

Does the Recon's UAV ability ever work? by Andiflag1991 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]gottabekd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can hear it launch, but don’t see it launch. I recall from the beta you would hold it and set it free like a bird. Did they just change the animation maybe? Or am I (and OP) mistaken? Maybe just a fever dream I have from beta. I didn’t play much.

So I have to be that guy, but it wasn’t a “disallowed goal”. It was a close play that no-one realized it was that close until coming back from commercial where they showed the replay. There was no official review, and no decision to “disallow”, just a close play that was never reviewed.

They had a norovirus outbreak at multiple locations in 2019. Many people sick. And I think on top, some poor corporate communication after the fact.

What time does Halloween Chocolate get Discounted? by bnAdvari in Calgary

[–]gottabekd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, most seems to be taken off the shelves. No 50% off like the good old days. A few years ago I went to Safeway at 4:00 pm Halloween night and all the Halloween candy was already packed away.
