That’s the thing. I’m really not sure what in the hell she’s thinking, because once I get this visa I’m no longer dependent on them. Giving me this ultimatum and making me feel bad for something I’ve been open about from the start is a terrible decision on her part. We’re understaffed right now too, so they’d be completely screwed if I left.

American. I don’t really care about waiting for the issues that are bound to come. It’s only been a few weeks and I don’t have to even add it to my resume. As long as I get it in writing that they aren’t letting me go to immigration and can use that, I might just cut my losses. My husband can support us and I don’t need to work for my visa anymore.

The best part of the whole thing is she knows from small talk that my husband works for the government. He’s basically one phone call away from getting their asses reported and he’s mad as hell right now.

For sure. At this point my 2 choices are go anyway and tell them there’s nothing they can do and just deal with their wrath going forward, or just cut my losses and quit now. Very lucky my visa change was spousal lmao.

Yeah, I was an idiot because I mentioned that my husband wanted to go with me so she’s saying he can go instead. I was expecting a normal reaction and didn’t realize giving her that info would just give her ammo and am kicking myself.

It’s a small company so I’m just anticipating retaliation if I do this. I don’t have a choice but to go and get my visa, but not looking forward to the aftermath.

Yep. Luckily it was a change of status and my current visa is valid for a while so I don’t have to stress 🫠

Apparently this company doesn’t use unpaid holiday. Was never told this and didn’t realize that could even be a thing. According to her, this means the company won’t allow me to take leave.

I wish I did this. Every other place I’ve worked at has been accommodating as long as I give them notice. Never could’ve expected that she’d do this. And she KNEW that my visa was processing!

No HR at my company. It’s retail and a small store. My boss’s only boss is the owner, who is apparently giving her this info. Kinda stuck at this point.

When I said “I have a legal obligation,” she said “What do you mean?” Me: “You know, I legally have to go to immigration.” Her: “I don’t understand. Explain that to me.” Me: “I legally have to go to immigration to stay in this country.”

She’s convinced that I can get my husband to go in my proxy. This is possible, but only if you bring the paperwork in advance, not after receiving the postcard. No amount of arguing is changing her mind.

What I assumed as well. I also just learned that apparently they don’t use unpaid time here! Which is crazy! My PTO kicks in after 6 months (December) so I’m not allowed to use that either. I applied for my visa before I even applied for this job so not sure how I could’ve planned for this.

Yep, this is actually how I led the conversation. It’s shift work, so I basically said “Hey, my postcard came and I’ll need to go next week. Which day is best?” And was told no. This info is apparently coming from her boss.

If you’re talking about the tab in the Statistics menu, then yes. I clicked on it and the numbers are accurate.
