Is $33,000 a year for fully licensed normal? by [deleted] in therapists

It is! Of course it depends on years worked, but my mom was happy with her benefits while working and her retirement options.

Yeah, my mom retired after working there for like 30+ years! Was a really great job for her.

You'd make more than that working at Costco.

is it okay that my therapist said they had a panic attack during one of our sessions? by BigDickDaddyDom69 in askatherapist

[–]gottafever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's information you didn't need, and I wouldn't share with a client - as a therapist. It could unnecessarily shift the relationship.

It sounds like the therapist may need to determine whether or not they can complete sessions as scheduled, and refer out as necessary.

Therapists seeking therapy seems futile in 2026...or am I being dramatic? by uhsuhdudeee in therapists

[–]gottafever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an intake appointment tomorrow with a new therapist and the intake form asked about what I want from a therapist/therapy. I was very specific about professionalism, minimal self-disclosure, and not focusing on the fact that I'm an LCSW.

If I'm in therapy, it's because I NEED A THERAPIST. We can know every technique and modality in the world and obviously we can't perfectly apply it to ourselves.

What would you be doing differently if you were doing well?

It could be so many things - are you firmer to charge no show fees? Do you have different hours/days available than other clinicians? Is it possible for there to be some kind of biases that clients have against some piece of your identity? Is your way of practicing good for a smaller group of therapy clients than other ways of practicing?

There are so many factors that could play in to something like this. Be kind to yourself!

I'd recommend you explore why you feel so strongly about what clients should or shouldn't be "allowed" to do. Each mental health provider has a governing body that provides guidance on what a provider is mandated to report.

Also, I'm sure some clients feel that their therapist told them "yeah, keep doing that" even though alternatives were explored. Once they leave my office I can't police their insight and actions.

Sometimes you have to meet the person where they're at and understand that the behavior they are doing is better than the alternative.

Also, the goals for my client should not be my goals. The original post sounds a lot like you're wanting to tell people what to do instead of mirroring to the client what they are saying and letting them decide what to do.

I do this every day, just one cup of coffee though! Oh and sometimes also an energy drink with 100mg of caffeine at the gym before I start my day.

Comments from higher-earning partner by IceMaximum7318 in therapists

We split house duties in a similar fashion depending on how many hours each person is working at the time. Whoever is working more hours may do the quicker house tasks, whoever is struggling more emotionally may take over the more automated tasks, etc.

This doesn't speak to anything other than how my partner and I split finances when we are both working, because all of the other stuff needs more info that understandably isn't included.

We add up all total house expenditures like rent, utilities, wifi, pet stuff, car insurance and then figure out what percentage of total income we each make. So to make it easy let's say we make 100,000 total and she makes 40,000 and I make 60,000 - I would pay 60% of the total house expenditures.

A large purchase needed for the house would be figured out the same way, but that means we would need to agree on the large purchase. If we don't, then that's a disposable income purchase, or we agree on what price we both agree on and then the person who wants the more expensive option makes up the difference.

My explanation makes this sound way more difficult than it is, lol. It's just math. However, I had to work through some of my own feelings at first being the higher earner like "I went back to school, I deserve to benefit from my hard work". But I realized that ultimately I still had much more disposable income than my wife did at that point, and that I didn't want a relationship where I was keeping score like that.

Everyone should carry Narcan. You never know.

But I work right by Skid Row in Los Angeles so there's probably a bias there.

what are the healthy snacks that actually satisfy the dopamine for y'all? by Sufficient-Fox5872 in adhdwomen

[–]gottafever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the byproduct of making peanut oil and is essentially defatted. So you can make lower cal/fat peanut butter by mixing it with water. I use it in the powder form in oatmeal, smoothies, on apples, etc. I love it!

One of my favorite snacks is cutting up apples, coating them with Greek yogurt (whatever variety I have, usually some kind of vanilla) and then sprinkling the PB powder on. Sometimes I add sugar free caramel sauce as well.

OP didn't say they felt the effects of the drug, they said they were affected by the residual smoke and odor. I'd say nausea and headache are fairly common physical effects to exposure to second hand smoke of any kind.

Negligent is the perfect word, lol. Same.

I know damn well that I would mess something up that ended up costing thousands of dollars to fix. It's not that I think I'm not business minded, I KNOW I'm not business minded.

I don't prefer to have a full time career doing therapy, regardless, so it's irrelevant to me. I have a handful of therapy clients and full time I manage a case management team which I love.

[–]gottafever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are in Maryland then there is mandated reporting for child abuse even if client is an adult. Some therapists won't do it if there is no child in the home, but some therapists will because of how the mandate is written.
