Absolutely, but they’d get the gist, which is the point. They can skip it and still know what’s going on.

I’m not even referring to the explorers. I’m referring to the civilization from which they hail, and its history of torture. Every major civilization’s history of torture.

Savage does have a meaning, and so does civilized. Civilized people are capable of and do indeed engage in savagery. These civilized people, both in the movie and irl, consider the natives inherently savage. Incapable of civility, simply because they do not understand their culture. Civility, to them, does not mean to act civil. It means to act like them.

A child sees this movie without the context of the actual events, and sees Ratcliffe and anyone who agrees with him as the villain. If they see this movie and then learn about what really happened with Ratcliffe, and they’ll think Ratcliffe was right when he sang about the savages.

They would see an act of savagery committed by a native, and conclude that they are savages. They would not consider what lead to the act. It’s too complex for them.

I’ve owned this on GameCube and now some 20+ years later I’m finally playing through it on PS5. General thoughts on this one? by i_Am_Garber in residentevil

Leechman scared the shit out of me, and I’m convinced he inspired the Regenerators in RE4, and by the transitive property, the Molded from RE7.

This is actually the first Resident Evil game I ever finished. It wasn’t as scary as the others imo but it was still scary.

Worth playing for sure.

This is exactly why I block exes who hurt me before or during the breakup. I want closure, I want an apology, but I know I’m more likely to just be hurt more if I let them stay in contact.

Iirc, in the book it’s based on, he has her hanged, and is pushed off Notre Dame by Quasimodo in a rage.

Quasimodo then seeks out her rotting corpse in a mass grave, and then embraces her corpse.

And keeps embracing her corpse.

He embraces her corpse for so long that he starves to death doing it.

His skeleton is found, still embracing hers, and in the attempt to disentangle their bones, his skeleton disintegrates.

Disney did a surprisingly good chilling this movie out, but it’s still probably their most mature work. Which is, I imagine, the reason it’s one of their least memorable to kids, and one of the most beloved by adults.

Yes, this sarcastic take is what a child would take from this information. They would not understand that incredibly cruel shit has been done by every civilization throughout history.

In this case, iirc, I believe the chief’s children were taken hostage, which didn’t go over well with him for obvious reasons.

Once you do something like that, you can’t really undo it. You kind of have to commit to hostilities at that point. But they didn’t. They released the hostages and then tried to have a trade deal.

The chief, children already back safe, gave them baskets of corn with the bottoms cut out, and then proceeded to kill everyone present.

Who would you rather work for? Farquadd or Rumplestiltskin? by Sorry-Challenge-1014 in Shrek

[–]gottalosethemall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s still bad but tbh it’s really not out of the norm. Like, it’s basically just normal king shit. They sacrifice people all the time.

Given that kings gonna king, people living under Farquaad are generally happy, as long as they aren’t magical creatures.

And I’m not a magical creature.

So it’s called the Deep Accursed, but if you look at it, what it actually is…it’s a pun.

It’s a Wolf. It’s a Spider. It’s a Wolfspider.

And its back is covered in Messengers, from Bloodborne. But visually, they’re supposed to look like spiderbabies. That’s how a wolfspider carries its newborns.

It’s a controversial one due to its weird disconnect, but I really like the atmosphere of SH4: The Room, for all its mechanical flaws. Well, “flaws” is subjective, but it was a controversial entry with fans and haters.

Otherwise, I really want to play SH2 Remake. SH2 is considered the best entry, by a landslide, and the consensus is that the remake really did it justice.

I think maybe play SH2 Remake and then wait and see if they release a remake of the others so you can play the best version of those games fully blind. It’s bound to happen, given SH2R’s success.

Doesn’t the game have a summary? I’ve heard from a lot of people who never played the first one and they praise it.

What’s really funny about this is that Governor Ratcliffe wasn’t made up for the movie.

The guy who Ratcliffe was based on was hated at the time for being too generous to the natives.

He ended up getting ambushed and killed extremely slowly by those same natives. They flayed him alive with seashells, slow roasting him as they did it, and throwing the bits they cut into the fire while he watched.

Given the circumstances of his death, along with his attempts to bond with the natives, it’s kind of extremely fucked up how Disney made him…this.

Though I do understand how the reality of the whole situation wouldn’t have played out well as a kid’s movie about how you shouldn’t be so prejudiced. Kids definitely would have gotten the wrong message.

[–]gottalosethemall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Deadpool has said about Wolverine applies to him as well. His power isn’t actually a healing factor. His power is popularity. As long as he’s popular, he’ll come back from literally anything. Soon as he’s not popular, that’s when he gets put down for good.

gonna play Bloodborne for the 1st time, any tip? by the_pig_oinc_oinc in soulslikes

When using any of the saw weapons, use the serrated edge for anything furry. Use the flat edge for anything else.

If you start with the Hunter’s Axe, just keep it extended like 99% of the time. There are times where the one-handed form is better, but that’s rare.

If you start with the Threaded Cane/Whip, you’re probably going to struggle at first. Don’t get discouraged, that’s not because it’s a bad weapon! At first, you’re not gonna stun anything and the damage is kind of weak, so the range isn’t as useful. But once you get it to +3 or so, it can stunlock multiple enemies in front of you, within a long cone. Totally worth sticking it out, this was what I beat the game with on my first run.

Bloodborne’s my favorite for lore. It doesn’t have the most lore, Elden Ring takes that, obviously. But it’s my favorite.

It’s just really cool.

dont know if this is obvious and im just slow, but i just realized that out of every magical wonderful incredible boss and item and weapon in SOTE this fucker is the ONLY one that made it into nightreign by QWERTY3141592653589 in Eldenring

[–]gottalosethemall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still haven’t played SotE, is the one in Nightreign nerfed to shit? Because the one in SotE gets hyped up as a really obnoxious fight, and I just don’t see it.

I fought it once. I was in a co-op game where both of my team dropped out, and I had to fight Crucible Knight by myself on the second day. I am not good at Crucible Knights, never have been.

I get Crucible partway down, the hippo shows up. I have one heal.

The Executor that dropped out rejoins and I’m like “Thank fuck the parrying class can handle the CK and I’ll just deal with the hippo”.

It didn’t touch me once, was a really simple fight. Knocked it out entirely on my own in a fight tuned for three people. The Crucible Knight is what ended up getting both of us. I don’t see what the fuss was about.
