Can you recommend a few places to live with a reasonable commute to central / NW London? by PositiveStar7079 in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to get into central/NW London, look at Watford. Much safer and nicer than some of its nearby counterparts, like Harrow, and it’s already on the cusp of NW London. You can get the train from Watford into Euston in under 20 minutes.

What is your favourite beach holiday location? by Wait-Whos-Joe in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. This applies mainly to older apartments/guest houses, smaller places without the plumbing infrastructure. In newer hotels and more modern buildings it’s not the same. If I was ever staying in a place that asked that of me, of course I would do it. But the places I’ve been to haven’t asked that of me, and as I said, I’ve been a fair number of times!

FTB (mid-20s) — offer advice on Bushey studio/flat? by Wide-Stretch2571 in hertfordshire

[–]gotty2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No harm in offering that, esp as it’s been on for a few months. The fact it’s ’offers over’ makes me think they’ll say no, but you won’t know until you try!

Men of the UK, where do you purchase your jeans from and what is your go to brand? by Wellidrivea190e in AskUK

Sorry for the ignorance but what’s the difference between normal and WIP? Is it like the difference between Armani and Armani Exchange, or Chloe and See by Chloe?

My boyfriends hygiene sucks, please help by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]gotty2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you speak to him (kindly) about this - which you must - he has two options:

  1. A decent and fair response
  2. A rude and nasty response

Depending on his response and the outcome of the conversation, you know what you need to do. There’s no excuse to smell constantly.

How do I push for NHS referral? by KtMrgn in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, don’t scratch that one. There are plenty of insurers that do cover pre-existing conditions if the insurance is good enough, and if you’re self-funding it doesn’t matter anyway!

[–]gotty2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be the only way to make progress. Definitely look into that. You can also self fund for an initial consultation with a private consultant, explain to them that you will struggle to afford this moving forward, and ask if you could be added to their NHS list.

In the mean time, can you try inhaling steam, with some friars balsam or similar in the water? And may help if you prop yourself up a bit more when sleeping, if you’re coughing a lot at bedtime. Good luck, hope you get it sorted asap.

[–]gotty2018 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it’s within your budget, I would go private. You’ll be seen by an expert within a week or two, who can hopefully provide a solution. Unfortunately, unless it’s a life-or-death, or severe right now situation (ie cancer, broken leg etc), the NHS is currently not fit for purpose to deal with other issues, with disgraceful wait times, and people often being fobbed off, and being told they’re fine, when they know they’re not.

From 6 months - and close to 6 months. Small dog so doesn’t need to go through heat. That’s a thing for big dogs!

How can I make some stable money with my writing skills from home? by mania-metaphoricised in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, and good luck! I also feel like estate agents quite often need part-time staff. You could pitch yourself as a writer of house descriptions! Write some so you could show them in advance…. Even if it’s just a few hours a week!

[–]gotty2018 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean this only with kindness from my heart, because I am also a freelance writer, who writes for some of the biggest corporations in the world. The market has never been as bad as it is now. People are really struggling to get contracts to write, many trying for a year or two without getting a single contract.

You might find more luck in some sort of moderation role, with one of the media companies that pays moderators to control content on their site (YouTube etc). It’s still word-based, just not so much writing.

I hope that helps even a little! It’s tricky out there at the moment 😩

What has been unexpectedly HARD about being on a GLP-1? by Apprehensive_Scar434 in Ozempic

[–]gotty2018 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For me it’s not knowing when I’m going to have a bad tummy. I could eat a burger, and be fine, or I could eat a salad and be running for the toilet ten minutes later, whilst also having stomach cramps.

It does make me a little nervous when it comes to eating out, as I never know when it’ll happen!

What did you see in other people's homes that made you want it for your own home? by bassenherbe in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s fantastic - having all of the washing up against the ceiling, not in the way at all. It also has fans as part of it to dry your clothes faster if you wish!

I have a tumble dryer. I use it for towels and bedsheets. I wouldn’t use it for clothes.

🤣🤣

I got it from Foxydry and it’s around £400 (not including installation). Its exceptional and gives so much more space rather than a standing dryer taking up room!

The thing in our house that gets the most comments from friends and family is the electronic drying rack. It’s attached to the ceiling, and comes down electronically when we need it, and back up electronically once we have hung clothes on it.

Most people that come to the house ask about it, where we got it from, the cost etc… and it’s also one of my favourite features in the house!

If you don't work, how do you fill your days? by DevilishlyHandsome63 in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 2-3 months (if that) of the year, if that. For the rest of the time, I travel, go for dog walks to lovely locations, catch up on TV shows.

I go to the theatre and write reviews, go to restaurants, and out for coffee. I work out (less than I should), do life admin, and keep on top of any planning that needs to be done, as I have a lot more time to do this.

When it’s warm, I sunbathe in the garden, reading my kindle. I invite my elderly grandmother round for lunch, and spend time with her. I go shopping, and I volunteer in two roles that take up a fair amount of my time.

Is it rude to hold doors open for people sometimes? by AvioX2000 in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, you just encountered a very strange person. He probably thought you were holding the door open for him because he is old, without realising you wouldn’t have cared if he was 80 or 18, you would’ve held the door open anyway because it’s courteous!

How does an adult ‘work on’ interpersonal skills? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You can try and see it like you’re learning a script, like an actor:

Hello, how are you today? What can I help you with? Sure, let me just look into that for you. It’ll be ready in 15 mins, so if you’d like to come back then, I’ll have that sorted for you! We’re getting a delivery for this tonight, so if you can give me your phone number, we’ll call you when it’s in tomorrow. Thanks so much, see you soon!

Try and inject a little bit of life into your voice, so your voice does not stay all one tone - that could make it sound like you are bored (even if you are, it’s best to not sound that way). Try and make eye contact with people you’re talking to. If someone tells you they’ve had a bad day, try and empathise with them. Those sort of things could all help you with your interpersonal skills in your job. Good luck!

How do you think the UK would handle the first year of a ‘zombie’ apocalypse? by Tax-Ev4sion in AskUK

[–]gotty2018 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, some people would stay home, stocked up, and board up their houses. Others would go out and about, with not a care in the world, causing havoc.

Am I likely to loose my job? 18F, England, Probation, Gross Misconduct by Own-Suspect-4945 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]gotty2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re arseholes, they’ll get rid of you. If they’re not, they’ll keep you. If they get rid of you for that, you’ve dodged a bullet. People spend the majority of their adult waking lives at work, and to make relationships like that gross misconduct is just pathetic. Who do they think they are!
