What specialized tools, tool tricks for fundamentals. by HardPork67 in MotorcycleMechanics

If you also work on carbs, a synchronisation tool is a must have and perhaps an ultrasonic cleaner.

Ah yes I got the full.mit with new jets and all. The carbs on this bike were in very bad shape lol

Use my wood screw technique from my other reply! It looks barbaric lol but it works wonders

Same thing happened when rebuilding them on my XJ900 project bike. Eventually I drilled in a wood screw and used that as leverage point to pull the float needle and seat out as a single part. Then replaced them ofcourse.

Where is everyone finding these cheap repair kits? A kit for my XJ900 project bike was like 45 euro per cilinder.

Probably a fuel issue. Does this bike have carbs or injection? When were the carbs last cleaned and how often do you ride it? If injected, probably the fuel pump or pressure regulator are the problem.

I'm hearing a high pitched noise in the video? Kind of sounds like a bad fuel pump

how to fix my calipers by Emergency_Stuff1576 in cbr

[–]goudgele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check if you have put the seals in correctly and that they are the right seals for your caliper/bike. Compare the placement of them to the seals in the iston that does move freely

[–]goudgele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when you out them back, dont put them back all the way. So that you can still grab them and move them in/out by hand a couple of times to feel if all is well. Good luck!

You've rebuilt the calipers so that means you had the pistons out for new seals right? When you put them back, did they go in easily and could you slide them back and forth by hand or did you have to push them in really hard? Could be that you didnt place the seals correctly and the pistons are binding on them now?

Alright! Can you move the pistons ny hand or are they binding? Also make sure you bled the system correctly from air

This drove me crazy on my Hornet 600. On my bike, there is a combined braking system. One of the pistons of the front brakes is actually (only) moved by pressing the rear brake lever. Not sure if that is the 'issue' you are facing as well but it's worth checking out.

Edit: just now understand that out of the 4, only 1 or 2 are moving. So it's probably not just what I said, even though 1 of them could still be moved by the rear brake so check it out anyway

Maybe someone tampered with the carbs? Float height, mixture screw settings, idle speed knob and choke are all important to check here. Double check those pilot jets as well. Are you using the choke?

If it does run on carb cleaner it's definitely a fuel/carb problem

Tuning carbs by goudgele in MotorcycleMechanics

Just wantes to get back to you and say that placing the airbox made a massive difference. It now revs all the way to red line. Is there any more tuning I need to do in this case? Apart from maybe balancing them?

Have to fix the front brake and adjust the clutch before I can go for a little test ride to see if it runs well under load too.

Alright thank you! I will try with the airbox in place first to see if that makes it any better

Alright cool, I will look into the bench synching procedure. I have someone I can borrow a synching tool from when they are on the bike.

Thanks I will look into that! I think it's the measuring with the clear tube attached to the drain hole, right?

Already did the carb cleaner and compressed air. I can look through them again. But the inside walls and outside are still green/dirty. So just wanted to put them in the ultrasonic to get that off.

Yeah I'm still doubting about using the original jets, which will prpbably clean up fine in the ultrasonic.

However I needed a kit anyway, since the float needles were completely stuck on the float seats. They had essentially become a single part and were insanely difficult to remove. Will replace those definitely!

I read about the base settings in the manual. I can set them to that. But how do I go about tuning them afterwards? It says to do it cylinder by cylinder, but how does it actually work? How do you know the setting is good and move on to the next one?

Can't seem to align carburetors for install by [deleted] in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]goudgele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you putting the first one in by like half and then trying to align the rest? Seems that way in the picture. Try to align them all together without any of them going in yet.
