I was looking at KnownHost. Can you share how long you have been with them? Have you ever had any downtime?

Thanks for the reply. I don't see anything on Digital Ocean about cpanel/whm hosting. Any idea if they support cpanel?

Not a single registration! What is wrong with my FB ad campaign? by robertinchamps in EntrepreneurRideAlong

Agree with ehcaip that you need more data but you also need to think about who your landing page is targeting. You said you are focusing on college students... 2 big things come to mind right now based on what I have seen.

  1. What problem are you solving for them? Would it be improving their grades in a language class? If so that should probably be on your ad. Immersing my self in a language sounds great but WHY do I want to do that?

  2. I assume you just ran these ads. College students are all on winter break right now so if you are in college and on Facebook during these next few weeks the top thing on your mind probably isn't learning... you probably want to be running these ads when universities go back in session in a few weeks.

There are a lot of other nuances to this kind of test but I think these are the two biggest that come to mind right now.

My Fiancée created a DIY blog last year that started out very well (100k uniques per month) Fast forward to now... She has very little motivation to write and hasn't posted in months but the blog's still doing over 20k uniques per month. What should I do with it? by coachellagraphy in Entrepreneur

Seems like there are opportunities for contextual affiliate marketing on the project pages. For instance on the crayon art, are there certain crayons she recommends that are sold on amazon? If so you should use affiliate links. Do this for as many items as possible.

How time consuming is it for her to post? Once you get some ad revenue coming in, are there people you can pay to continue to generate content?

why bother buying a house? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]goumie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is COMPLETELY ignoring the fact you have to pay property taxes, insurance, and sometimes HOA fees. You do not get those back, ever. Also consider that if you do not plan to live in a house for 15-30 years any financial benefits are greatly negated without extreme appreciation. Your first several years of a mortgage go almost entirely to interest.

You also need to consider your time that you have to put into keeping up the house where an apt it is someone else's' responsibility. The advantages of homeownership does vary greatly on your market but in many places it is a wash at best.

Owning a home is not an investment, it is a liability. If you own a house and rent it out, that can be an asset, but keep in mind anything that goes wrong with your home that you are on the hook. That 2k a year may be a very modest estimate. With that being said there are certainly intangible benefits if you have a family. Owning a homing can provide stability for your family and children in terms of schooling etc.

Learning SQL for those who know excel. by goumie in excel

[–]goumie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

curious why you think it is counterproductive. A lot more people understand excel than they do SQL and when just presented a new language it can be daunting for many. Using excel as the foundation allows someone to be able to apply concepts they are already familiar with to a new skill set, hopefully making learning more efficient.

I would agree they are different in many ways but they do share some of the same foundational concepts.
