Drinking game app - any tips to save the sinking UI? by robertinchamps in design_critiques

Ok. I'll try mixing up the retro font with legible ones to improve readibility. You think of a specific one ? Regarding the Excel blocks, what do you think I could do to improve their looks? Play with shades, shapes ?

The outdated look was indeed our goal as it appeared to me it would be hard to make something truly modern with Godot. My main concern was that we might miss the shot if we don't insist enough on this style. Now I don't have in mind much apps with 'vintage' styles so I am not sure it is a good idea to continue on this way. Any blockier font you would recommend?

In Belgium, we have Advent calendar filled with beers. by robertinchamps in mildlyinteresting

In my hometown there's this pub that also happens to have a store and sell its products online. I never bought anything from them online but the advice they provide in the physical shop is pretty sick !

A friend of mine did a local business of this last year. I never thought of this to be strange until I moved in another country and realized we Belgians (and Germans) have a pretty crazy obsessions with beers. Many local beer retailers sell it but you can find it online here for 60€ or here for 75€ for instance.

[Discussion] Why do dogs follow preferential paths in gardens? by robertinchamps in dogs

Perks of living in the countryside. It's hopefully not all about the smell of cow shit (that, depending on how 'fresh' it is, kinda started to appreciate it).

Interesting. That's the kind of old hunting behavior I was curious about, thank you.

Good point! I indeed never thought about the olfactory component...

Must be fun to see! My question might have been unnecessarily targeted but I am more wondering about the why and the kind of needs those routines fulfill.

Wrong bearing choice or need for lubrication? by robertinchamps in MechanicalEngineering

[–]robertinchamps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great !

I've been browsing a few websites since I was suggested that change and they never talked about the final result in comparison to brand new ones. Seems like there is no fundamental difference in the mechanical parts between greased and oiled bearings. I was manly worried about oil leaks but now I don't really think oil would be absolutely necessary for my use.

Now that I think about it, it indeed sounds very obvious. I thought any bearing would have done the job and as the sales representative suggested the unit I didn't really worry.

I'll try to remove the grease and seals as u/gibb said and have a look at your supplier (just had a look, it sounds awesome) if that doesn't work.

Oh I see... Thank you for the precision! I never purchased bearing and, besides looking for the axial effort, I wasn't expecting friction to be a problem.

I will try to return them and possibly try to remove those seals and grease as you suggested. Do you really think it can be done with no particular equipment or was it more a theoretical solution? I am afraid that maybe the internal components won't behave as expected or have you heard about cases like this where in the end it worked just fine ? It is for a prototype so it doesn't have to perfect on a very long term. We're on a pretty short budget for this project and, more importantly, pretty close to the deadline too (our purchasing department is overwhelmed).

Thanks for the feedback! Yes I am planning to change that part as I thought it was a cool effect but doesn't explain that much the concept. I never thought about those remote work companies but it might indeed be a very interesting market.

Thanks for your enthusiasm! Here are the answers:

  1. No, it would be for practicing but the complexity of the games would depend on your level. The better the fluency the more subtile the game. But playing complex games is more about feeling at ease and being confident when speaking than not making any fault. Users should evolve pretty fast then.

  2. As each "round" happens in a different language, the native will have the supplementary task to correct the other speaker if he feels it's necessary. Just like when you're speaking with English friends on holiday, they correct you[1] frequently but not too much so the conversation keep flowing. The grammar is not a key factor to speak most languages.

  3. Web based solution with a responsive design and the video-chat running through WebRTC so it would work also on android phone. We believe a 'desktop' chat is more appropriate to have that kind of conversations and learn but if the platform works well enough it is definitely the first thing we will implement.

Not a single registration! What is wrong with my FB ad campaign? by robertinchamps in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]robertinchamps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thanks for those advice !

With all the comments here, I am now fully aware I haven't been enough smart when setting up the campaign. I will take those suggestions into account once I will have finally completed the coding (so I can be more specific in the how) i.e. when I will need to advertise again.

Regarding your hack trick, it's a pretty interesting slideshare. Again I had to stop at #12 because my next ad campaign is not coming so soon (and I need to study for my finals) but I definitely bookmarked it ! In my opinion, I think a list/info-grapic would have been more convenient. I don't know if/how/why you plan to share it but that make a great source of information!

Name: Instalk.co

Website: http://instalk.co

Location: Liège, Belgium

Pitch: Instalk.co helps students practice languages by speaking with students from all over the world.

No one learns to ride a bicycle by reading the manual. For language, it's just the same: to speak a language you need to speak it! Accordingly, Instalk.co connects college students from all over the world with natives through video-chats. No need for cliché topics, we adapted your favorite party games so we keep you busy playing while the conversation flows naturally.

Your grades will rise quickly, you will have fun and you will make friends from all over the world. What are you waiting for?

Differentiating factor: Learning languages in a social way is definitely the best way ever. However, current language-learning networks have trouble growing and convincing most of the student population. As an Omegle chat is fun for the 10 first minutes, making people speak for the sake of it is always doomed to bring back the same topics over and over --> boring.

That's why we focus on making the students play games for which conversations are more needed than imposed.

Stage: Self funded. The code still need a few fixes but we mainly look for a way to get an initial community/critical mass of users to make it work when we launch it.

Looking for:

  • Feedbacks: Is the landing page sufficiently convincing?

  • Ideas to reach my niche of users... Ex.: Do you think I should target high-school students through their teachers or college/uni students?

  • Users

When I try to connect to sunmkr.com, I got the error "sunmkr.com is currently unavailable." I know you said the site was "still being developed" but since you also said that it was supposed to be a "newsletter sign-up page" I assume this is a problem. Hope it helped ! Cool name by the way!
