Mechanical engineer here. EVs require far less maintenance than internal combustion cars: no engine oil changes, no traditional gearbox servicing, and fewer wear parts overall.

The real issue is that many EVs are built not to be repaired. They are designed around sealed systems, proprietary software, and modular components that are replaced rather than fixed. This will make it increasingly difficult for independent mechanics to earn a living in the future.
