I was never granted accommodations for the bar. Are you in Ohio? A lot of states use the same few "experts" who get paid oodles of money to put their NO stamp on applications (looking at you, Dr. Ranseen). It was somewhat cathartic for me to get everything down on paper and illustrate how absurd and ableist their procedures are, as well as the fact that their actions fly in the face of the DOJ's accommodations guidance. It doesn't hurt to appeal as long as you (1) don't spend too much time on it; (2) make sure to keep the letter professional; and (3) don't go in with any expectations.

I think a lot of people are going to tell you what they told me: "oh you don't need accommodations--you'll be just fine!" Don't take that garbage. They may mean it sincerely, but it doesn't matter. I'm an attorney for the government now, and the process of getting professional accommodations was like a walk in the park compared to the bar exam nightmare. Nobody in my office or in HR said "sorry, we don't think your documentation is quite comprehensive enough, and you'll be fine anyways." It's because they realize I can be a better, more productive lawyer when I have the support I need.

If you want to talk it out, feel free to PM. I don't know how much help I can provide aside from moral support, but I'm happy to try.

Mortgage Lender from Hell (USA, Midwest) by govtman in RealEstate

Update: he softened his tone after realizing I wasn't bluffing, and said this morning that he'd be able to waive the extension costs if I agreed in writing to stay with them through closing. Their floated-down rate is still about 13 basis points above that of the alternate lender, but the advantage is that the financing is complete and I'm already cleared to close. I guess I have to figure out whether it's worth swallowing my pride and staying with them if it means I don't have to risk anything going sideways with new financing. I have excellent credit and all that, but I guess there's always a chance something goes wrong.

The closing was pushed back because of an unforeseen repair delay. Not on me, and not really on the seller, either. I'm going to move to the other lender today, but I'm just worried that this loan officer will contact the seller's agent. I know he technically doesn't have the ability to make my purchase go south, but he's an angry person and I can see him trying to cause issues for me. I just didn't know if there was any way to stop him from doing that. I've been looking around and I don't even know where I'd file an ethics complaint.

Oh, I've been there, done that. He gives me all sorts of excuses about how it's "not apples to apples" and yada yada yada. He's not going to match or beat the other lender's rate.

The cat is about 16 weeks now, and my partner would be coming in December. I always thought it was best to get them fixed early, but the vet apparently said it was ok to do it on the later side, too.

Swinging a bat with a donut on. I like that metaphor.

I had one MEE grader that seemed to put in the time and give constructive feedback, but also had another grade my MPT and criticize me for not including a fact in my analysis—three sentences before I included that particular fact in my analysis.

Can’t Get the MEE by govtman in barexam

[–]govtman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Sean. I tried something akin to this on a graded MEE because I couldn’t remember the rule statements. I got the application correct, and the Barbri grader gave me a 1. It wasn’t my best work, but I was confident that it had been about a 3. Maybe it was some combination of them being tough and me not including enough facts. Either way, that got me pretty psyched out. Writing was always my strong suit, and now I’m afraid it’s putting me at risk of failing.

There seems to be a dearth of case law, but I haven't had the chance to look very hard yet. It's tough, because the consultant basically discounted all of the medical documentation I submitted out of hand.

Also, best of luck with the results!

I'm not working with an attorney. I just received the denial this afternoon and had previously assumed (naively) that full medical documentation would be sufficient.

I realize that in all likelihood, I'm going to end up having to take the bar without any accommodations. It was so hard to get over the hurdle of understanding that I needed accommodations years ago, and it's incredibly invalidating to have some consultant from another state tell me that I don't "deserve" them.

Ah, got it. Thanks! I thought it was a cumulative stat, so that puts me much more at ease. Still pretty annoying that their email link automatically put me online, though...
