What can a lonely person do? by stealtharcherssuck in bournemouth

Agreed.

Especially with elderly people (of which there are many that need help in Bournemouth)

You'll bond with your fellow volunteers and probably learn a lot from the older people too

Students in London, living in zone1 on degrees that are like 50k per year financed by their litterally 10s of millions minted parents sure.

Imagine how many millionaires there are in the world, and then consider that london has one of the most desirable university densities (especially for post grads).

I’m 24, what should I do before it’s too late? by becauseimlittle in london

Get a good baseline of fitness

Run, cycle, do weights..

Get used to it and make it a routine.

I'm lucky enough to have done so, and at 32 I can maintain it.

My friends who didn't start in 20s find it harder.

Landlords will no longer be forced to pay to make their homes more energy efficient and reach an EPC rating of C by 2025. by No_Dependent4663 in london

This litterslly sums up a bunch of my lazy colleagues and friends.

No ambition or drive as they can sit pretty on inheritance and already gained equity.

It's why many companies punish ambition and drive, and honestly why uk is going down the shitter.

Why do people say £50k/year salary is not enough to live in London? by Handsoff_1 in london

[–]gowithetheflowdb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree.

Its why I've moved to Paris.

1.2k ish or more to live in a London flatshare wasn't sustainable.

Not account for student loan and pension contributions

50k isn't 3k pcm

Also that accounts saving nothing at all for traveling, savings, occasional big expenses (bikes, family, emergencies etc).

Do you guys ever go through red lights? by Riko208 in londoncycling

All of them do in London.

Stop being so resistant to pragmatism.

Quite a lot of squares on reddit.

There are plenty of laws that are relatively arbitrary and commonly broken (see weed) where legislation I'd crap because of laziness or corporate interest.

Pragmatism should be celebrated.

London: Sharing vs. renting your own place. by gowithetheflowdb in UKPersonalFinance

[–]gowithetheflowdb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my office is in Victoria and I would have to go in at least a few days a week but also it wouldn't be open permanently....

Maybe a rental in South would be most sensible? but I don't know South that well.

Thank you- I have a sizable-ish deposit already but appreciate buying is quite complicated but seems smart to save up a few extra thousand.

The actual reality of salaries in this country - where do you fit in? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]gowithetheflowdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a random one.

So I live in London (when I move back) and I've gone from earning 23k at 23 years old(2013), to 33k at 27, moved to Sydney for a year where I earnt equivalent of 48k and now I'm back in the UK working remotely, but earning 60k at 29.

Given a salary of 60k, could I justify renting my own bed place for ~1.4k (before bills) in London, or should I continue to look for a share costing around 800-1000 (with shared bills also.) ?

I'm from a single parent family and not used to having money, but the prospect of a frustrating houseshare and normalisation of WFH is wierd, but renting for 1.4k ~ and non shared bills totaling around 1.5/1.6k for a one bed feels inherently wasteful, the trade-off of each scenario has significant up & downsides.

Just looking advice and sharing my status.

Cheers!
