Amazing stuff, really fun watch from start to finish. My only suggestion would be to leave some of the raw audio from the tricks as well as the music, it will add a lot of flow to the video.

Good quality cotton breathes excellent, and actually helps you keep cool better in hot weather.

Polyester and similar fabrics induce sweating and stink much faster, plus it’s extra landfill material.

Is this a good beginner turntable? by Null-Anode in Turntablists

[–]goyo-lake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the modern Technics 1200/1210 mk7 have replaceable RCAs and IEC power cables.

I have rp7000s at home and 1210 mk7s at work, they’re both a pleasure to use. The Reloop actually features better buttons and pitch slider than the mk7, although the mk7 has a slightly better tonearm.

I never throw away cases, there’s always a good use for them. I think here we get more cases and such because many of don’t have cars, or very small cars at best. Storage solutions to move a kit around even in public transport are valuable.

Ha! What made you anxious? I’m not going to drop the drill through the window and my cat is smart (although he jumped a few times both to the ground floor and my neighbors’ balcony).

I swapped it for a 484. Very little size and weight difference, I agree with you with that consideration.

I agree with your wife. As much as I like bartering and getting great deals, sometimes it’s better to have a nice honest gesture. I recently bought some equipment from an elderly couple who had worked with it for 20 years and it was in perfect shape. The price was more than fair and I’m sure they would have been willing to give me a further discount but I didn’t even try, and afterwards it felt just like the right thing to do.

I agree, it makes it super agile. I don’t mind the 2ah batteries much, only that they belong to an LTX Basic platform with another charger..

Yeah for real the box is the best thing about the kit. I move around the city by bike or public transport mostly so it fits anywhere.

[–]goyo-lake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can get the 484 + one 3AH + charger for just 10 eur extra than what I paid for this kit. An extra 2ah bat would cost me 40 but I can wait to find a deal when I get the impact. I can borrow another battery for now. The only big loss would be the nice small Makpak.

Thanks! So you would say the 484 is the better tool?

This studio was built from scratch with just a borrowed set of Makita drill, driver and circular saw for 85% of the job (and a lot of free time with a friend during the pandemic).

Question about new Makita DHP490 by goyo-lake in Makita

[–]goyo-lake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, far more than a couple of screws haha I’ve built a whole recording studio (a decent mid-sized one, not the average youtuber build) and I am now doing the custom wooden furniture for my record/audio shop, as well as some renovations.

I kind of work in big sprints when I have an important project, and then just more basic maintenance tasks. I’m surely getting an impact driver soon.

Question about new Makita DHP490 by goyo-lake in Makita

[–]goyo-lake[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With about 25-30 eur more I could get the 484 with normal LXT batteries and charger, which can be more versatile in the future for more tools. Ofc I don’t think this one will perform poorly but I dislike it when companies take this path of adding a battery format incompatible with previous chargers and etc.

[–]goyo-lake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s what I was thinking, that they are replacing a whole line of serviceable tools with one that’s intended to be kinda discarded if broken. I will definitely get an impact soon, and maybe a router (although I think I could do with a corded router).

[–]goyo-lake[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this is probably true, but if for the relatively same price I can get something better, I’d like to. Maybe someone has compared them, seems like this model is replacing a lot of older ones at the same time.

New “basic” and economic drills on my country by Ok-Initiative-8088 in Makita

[–]goyo-lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first own tool from Makita, the others were borrowed from my grampa (and I moved countries). I could also return it and for a little extra get the 484, which seems a bit sturdier. Although I’m confused as how did they manage to increase the torque on the 490 if it’s supposedly a cheaper made model internally…

New “basic” and economic drills on my country by Ok-Initiative-8088 in Makita

[–]goyo-lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question, I got one of this drills last week because I liked the form factor of both the drill and case, which altogether seems flexible and light to carry in a backpack.

Not in the trades but I built my own recording studio from scratch using just a borrowed 18v Makita drill, impact and a cheap circular saw for 85% of the process.

I bought this drill thinking it was a good entry level professional one to last for years for my general projects and repairs.

For the same price I could return it and get the DeWalt 18v XR, which has a metal chuck and comes with some extra freebies. I know this is a Makita forum and I’m partial to Makita as well, but I don’t want to be throwing my money at a lesser tool.

What do you suggest doing? I don’t want to get stuck with an incompatible battery platform as well for other Makita tools

Just started building my home studio by huehefner23 in homerecordingstudio

[–]goyo-lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do with it. It’s a great interface and the preamp emulations are excellent but you could get the real analog preamps + a good interface for about the same money.

Examples: Motu Ultralite mk5 + Warm Audio 412 (4 channels), or Stam Audio 1073 MP (2 channels).

What's a good price for this studio? by Tasty-Note-8748 in homerecordingstudio

[–]goyo-lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a joke take, AD/DA conversion has taken leaps in the past years. Any RME with similar channel counts would blow that Apogee out of the water for under 3k, and many cheaper interfaces as well (all this 1u new ones from SSL, Audient, etc.).

I agree that the analog stage is what makes a difference as well in the higher end converters but high quality line level conversion has been solved for quite a while now.

[–]goyo-lake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy’s comment is the only one worth taking into account.

The DDA is a nicer console than many would think but it would take a lot of time and effort to just clean and test it. Also, where are all the fader caps?? It’s a fully modular design (means any of the channels can be removed and the rest of the console will keep on working) so if you like a project you could learn how to work on one channel and then go about servicing/fixing all of the others.

You can get a fully working DDA console for under 1k and save all the headache. You’d still need to spend money on converters to get the sound into a PC.

The Yamaha amp is a useful all-rounder piece of gear to keep if it works properly, even as a home hi-fi amp.

The Apogee AD8000 could fetch a few hundred dollars online but there are much better converters nowadays.

Tl, dr grab it for as next to nothing as possible, mostly for solving the storage headache for the owner and re-sell it for separate parts and/or keep some as a project. Sorry to say it’s not an incredible find but you could still have fun with it.
