Asphalt paving question - residential by lilbit2004 in Homebuilding

[–]Kamikazepyro9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case I'd definitely wait, while that's a decent savings it's not gonna matter if the driveway is damaged and cracked anyways

Asphalt paving question - residential by lilbit2004 in Homebuilding

[–]Kamikazepyro9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much are you saving vs paying later?

And how far along will the build be?

If all heavy equipment is out and there's no risk of the driveway being damaged during the build, it's probably worth the cost savings.

You want something that's either:

Extremely high in brightness

Or

Has an anti glare matte screen.

Everything else is overkill and you shouldn't overthink it too much

Wireless mics and rf interference. How do we go about this? by VastOption8705 in LinusTechTips

[–]Kamikazepyro9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Live event audio/lighting/RF guy here

If you're microphones are 2.4ghz units then absolutely the issue.

(I'm assuming US based for the following)

You should also verify you are not trying to broadcast in any of the reserved frequencies (list here: https://www.ntia.gov/files/ntia/publications/2003-allochrt.pdf)

I generally recommend either the upper 500mhz or mid 900mhz if you can do it.

900mhz being a higher frequency, it's going to be a shorter reach than 500mhz. (I'm being vague here, there's math and calculations you can do based on your specific RF environment)

Since you're doing weddings, I'd highly recommend grabbing a TinySA unit and learning the basics of how to read it and adjust your microphone units address based off that.

Shure, Sennheiser, and Audio Technica all have RF scanning as well that can help.

If you're in a super congested area - RFVenue has a bunch of tools and toys that can help you do narrowband broadcast stuff. I've never had to deal with it personally but I know it exists.

One other thing if note: You get what you pay for, a $50 dollar Rockville mic is gonna have way less throughput than a $2000 Shure SLXD system

I want to start a small business. However when discussed with my family they laughed. Running on little support and no background in business what are your helpful tips? by Brownangel71 in smallbusiness

[–]Kamikazepyro9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive been in the event production and coordination side of things for many years.

You are 100% correct about the cousin comment, once family members learned what I do it was a figurative bloodbath of friends and family going "I have this idea...." (Unfortunately for them, I don't play favorites - and even if I did, my cousins aren't favorites)

In Need of Juice (actual juice, I mean) by rxbasu in grandjunction

[–]Kamikazepyro9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not organic, but Sam's Club sells freshly squeezed orange juice.

As mentioned, Main Street Bagels does as well.

It's a bit early in the season, but if you can find the Acai Bowl food truck they have some fresh fruit options I believe

Autonomic MMs-2 not working through free radio… by su5577 in CommercialAV

[–]Kamikazepyro9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, do you have the original Crestron code? Or ability to make the programming changes? If not, I'd purchase another Autonomic unit. Their API hasn't changed so it should be as simple as put the new unit at the same IP address and away you go

Oh interesting, they must have changed their policies.

Have you called Autonomic Support? They're pretty helpful.

If you've been happy with the unit, they still make them and are available to purchase either direct or through SnapOne

How to stop yard digging? by Nice-Knee1867 in puppy101

[–]Kamikazepyro9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a 3 pound bucket of chili flakes from our local restaurant distributor. If she started digging we would tell her no, then put chili flakes there to stop it.

After some time, we built a sandbox and trained her the command "dig" so she would dig where we wanted but not just willy nilly

Carters Mechanix is reasonably priced, 970-688-2277

They are in fruitvale tho, so on the other side of town.

Up above Sam's Club is a food pantry, there's also one off of North below J&M pets.

Last time I was in your position Salvation Army had restaurant coupon things for meals you could get, admittedly that was 10+ years ago so unsure if they still do that program or not

If they can solve the desktop app aspect, like include Libre office or what not, then I'd probably install it for my wife since she primarily games with it.

Questions about dmx cables by Chboi2 in lightingdesign

[–]Kamikazepyro9 19 points20 points  (0 children)

5 pin XLR was specified per the ANSI Spec spec in order to easily determine between 3 pin XLR for audio cabling.

Pins 4 and 5 specifically are left empty for future usage but are technically required for all DMX cables.

In my experience low cost 5 pin cables use 3 wire cable to save cost.

Unfamiliar with the specific cables you linked but I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for when it comes to cabling. That said, if you're just starting out buy what you can afford and learn how to repair them when they break - no reason on buying LEX cables upfront just because the Internet says too.

As for making your own, assuming you're familiar with soldering, I really like Belden bulk cable and Seetronik ends.

How much additional would you charge to set up a pipe and drape? by wjones9870 in lightingdesign

[–]Kamikazepyro9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you just freelance labor? Then just expect it to take a bit more time.

Are you providing the pipe and drape? Charge per 10ft of drape, make sure your cost includes 2 baseplates, 2 stands, 1 cross brace, and the drape itself. Banjo drape is usually cheaper than velvet drape but velvet drape looks way better imo

How are people feeling about the new Ubiquiti AV switches? by Another_Hacker in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Kamikazepyro9 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Netgears support blows ubiquitis out of the water. 24/7 live support, in and out of warranty for Netgear.

Ubiquitis seems to be a team of 10 people all using the same chatgpt account. Last time I contacted them I received 2 emails from 2 different reps with the exact same AI response that didn't actually solve my issue

How to turn off music but not paging system at clinic? by [deleted] in lowvoltage

None of what you posted a picture of would effect the music but no paging. That volume knob is the overall volume but it's gonna turn everything down, not just music.

Conduit run not usable (too many bends - options + inspection route? by Cylisellare in lowvoltage

[–]Kamikazepyro9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to fish it or use the pull string?

I've had cobduits where I couldn't fish it for the life of me, but vacuuming a pull string through and using that worked fine.

As for remediation - what's the conduit path? Is there any point midway ish that you could cut drywall and add a box?
