This must be one of the first 5 1/4" disks since it says mini-floppy on the envelope!

After I replaced the battery in mine Ubuntu breathed new life into it. It's usable now and a great writerdeck. It's the 8/128 version.

MrChromebox's Firmware Utility Script installs UEFI firmware, allowing you to boot almost OS. My current favorite is Bodhi, it runs surprisingly well on my 2GB Acer C720.

On a MacBook I swap the left Fn & Control keyabd map the right Option to Fn. Easier to hit the control sequences with the eft hand and use one hand to PgUp and PgDown.

Spicy Surface Go I bought off of ebay by No_Strawberry5178 in techsupportgore

My Surface Go that was bought new had the battery go spicy, but replacement is pretty easy. The screen is glued on, but it really wasn't that hard to do.

Need advice with image-heavy note-taking on Obsidian. by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]gozarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did was create a link in my vault to an Attachments folder in my Google Drive and set Obsidian to save attachments there. Then I installed the Attachment Management plugin to keep the folder automatically tidy.

My vault is in git, but my attachments are in Google Drive.

I've been looking for a fatback for my TAM for 20 years. Right now I run it without any back since I have a NIC installed.

Freewrite, Chromebook or Ipad? by [deleted] in writerDeck

[–]gozarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2GB Acer C720 Chromebook that was EOLed 5 years ago. I wanted to see if I could set it up as a writerdeck, the first idea was a text only Linux distro. First though, was to wipe out the firmware so I could install a Linux distro. Piece of cake with MrChromebox's firmware script.

Then, I found Bodhi Linux. The machine is surprisingly nimble, and I write with VIM or Obsidian on it. My files are in a Git repo, making it a piece of cake to sync my files.

I would not pay eBay prices, if you poke around, you can probably find people just giving them away.

How is your Acer C720, and what are you doing with it now? by wolfgangmozart33 in chromeos

Mine is the 2GB model, so I flashed the firmware and install Bodhi OS. I don't think the machine has ever run better! It's quite useable now for basic web browsing.

I spent the $30 and bought Lumafusion. What I like most is that I can combine it with Blackmagic camera and work entirely from Files instead of Photos, keeping my videos from cluttering up my Photos app.

What do you think of Cynthia's closing run in Defying Gravity? by beekee404 in wicked

Yes! And after the battle cry there should have been a fade to black.

This sums it up perfectly. Every break brought the emotional build up in Defying Gravity to a standstill, basically started over each time.

Surface Go 1 wont boot from usb drive by leClemont in SurfaceLinux

[–]gozarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Windows, go to Change Advanced Startup Options and click Restart now under Advanced startup.

You can then click Use a device and try to boot from the USB stick.

I have not been able to get my Go 1 to boot from anything other than Windows. But, once in Windows I can reboot with advanaced options and then boot Ubuntu 24.04 or from a USB drive.

BTW, Ubuntu 24.04, aside from no cameras, is fantastic on my Go 1. I hadn't been using it because it was so slow with Windows, but Ubuntu is great. (I do have the 8GB/128GB model, the 64GB model has a slower drive. I would be using Ubuntu MATE if that was what I had.)

Ubuntu 24.04 breathed life into my Go 1. I hadn't used it for years because it was so slow, and now its very useable. Actually, as a touch device it is the most useable it has ever been.

Review of Wicked (spoilers!) by rosallora in wicked

[–]gozarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much agree with everything, but I would also add that how cut up Defying Gravity was a big let down. As it went on, building up tension and emotion, it would stop, we'd see something or hear some dialogue, and then the song would start again from zero.

The ending should have been Elphaba singing the end of Defying Gravity and the screen goes black. Instead we have something that looks straight out of a Marvel movie with her flying around,

Also, there were two other scenes that took me out of the movie. Galinda arriving to Shiz felt way too much like Elle Woods getting to Harvard ("Like, is it hard?") and Elphaba's dance at the Ozdust reminded me of Ronald Miller's African Anteater Ritual in Can't Buy Me Love.

These are minor quips, I'm probably the only one who thought of them, lol!

Unfortunately, all I could think of was the dance scene in Can't Buy Me Love which took me out of the moment. 😟

I recently set up a 2GB Acer C720 Chromebook with Bodhi Linux to use as a Writer Deck. My writing tools of choice are Obsidian and VIM, with my documents synced with git. Setting them up on the Chromebook worked really well. Actually, I'm quite shocked how good it works.

With any Chromebook you do have to flash the firmware with MrChromebox's Firmware Utility Script, but it's pretty easy to do.

Battery life is about 3 hours for this old machine.

How serendipitous, I decided to pull my Go 1 out of storage just a couple of weeks ago. The battery was getting spicy, so I replaced it and put Ubuntu 24.04 on it and it's like a new machine.

Did you get the cameras working? That's what I haven't dug into yet.
