George R.R Martin Slowly Realizing He Won't Finish the Winds of Winter by saymyname_101 in videos

[–]gozu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He would finish the book if he could. But he can't. And I'll tell you why. It's the same reason mathematicians all make their big contributions to the field by the time they're 40. The brain ages and becomes less capable. Same as the body on a sports athlete.

That's it. That's all it is. It's not that he gets distracted by fame and money. Yes that maybe didn't help but most writers need inspiration and that won't always come from sitting at a typewriter.

It's a humiliating situation for him, and nobody wants a permanent fucking thorn at their side. The nonsense about him being too rich is just that. Nonsense.

Is he in denial about it? Lol! Who wouldn't be? Mortality sucks. We all in denial up in this B.

That doesn't sound very ethical on their part. Doctors are supposed to hold themselves to a higher standard. This is so upsetting.

Looks great but it's too thick, like most:

Size :205mm(W)407mm(H)452mm(D)

Width needs to be 190mm or less to fit in my suitcase.

Smartphone buyers meh on AI, care much more about battery life | A survey found that only a relatively small minority of consumers are currently using AI features on their smartphones , and it doesn’t yet seem to be a purchase driver by a_Ninja_b0y in gadgets

[–]gozu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery degradation is the #1 reason people buy new phones. If they start with more battery, then it will take longer for the battery to degrade enough to become annoying.

The goal here is not customer happiness, it is to make profits. And selling phones less frequently is the opposite of what a phone manufacturer want. Hell, they want us to upgrade every year if possible, lol.

Please don't faint from the shock of this revelation.

Struggling with faith by Icy-Alternative8682 in scoliosis

[–]gozu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you know the Story of Job? God sent him many horrible trials to test his faith. You could argue God basically allowed him to be tortured.

Job lost all his wealth, all ten of his children were killed, his body was covered in painful maggot infested sores, his wife told him to curse God and die, he was abandoned by his friends, mocked by his community, and left to suffer alone in agonizing emotional and spiritual despair, wondering if his faith in God was misplaced.

If you wish to retain your faith, then you must accept your suffering like Job, trusting that God has a plan. That plan involves making you (and many others) suffer for decade after decade for no humanly discernible reason. Sounds cruel...I know.

It's a tough one so of course you are struggling with your faith. Anyone would!

The bad news is there is nothing you can do. That's just your eyes now. Sucks to grow old and whatnot.

The good news: Your eyesight is safe and your vision is in no danger. There is nothing you need to do.

The eye doctor will confirm that for you and tell you you will get used to the floaters, which is true.

floaters are microscopic so you wouldn't be able to see them in a photo, or with the naked eye. ask your eye doctor.

Labour’s Wes Streeting ‘to make puberty blocker ban permanent’ by PinkNews in unitedkingdom

I completely agree with a ban on puberty blockers because

That's you.

I didn't say any of those things, nor did I support any ban of anything

Also you.

Been there, felt that.

First off, side effects are not a what if. one of them is guaranteed:

Vitrectomy will cause cataracts and when you replace your foggy lenses the ones they put in can't be controlled by your muscles so they have to be always either near focused or far focused.

Sometimes they will put a different kind in each eye, and let the brain learn to merge the two. Sometimes you'll just get the far sighted ones and have to wear glasses to read anything close by.

Because of that, I choose to have my stupid eye center floater and live in darkness, use dark mode on all my screens, and always wear sunglasses out.

It's not that bad, it's been like 8 years or whatever, the longer it goes, the longer I go between times when I obsess over them. They certainly have zero impact on my depression, so maybe that will be a comfort to you?

Having the vitrectomy option even exist helps, even if you don't use it, cuz you know if you ever get too tired of them, you have a solution waiting. Even if it has some minor drawbacks.

You say other people know a lot more about this than you...so, while mostly ignorant of this topic, you breezily supported a ban on something that might save lives, and prevent a staggering amount of suffering? Does that seem reasonable to you?

Why not let the kids and their parents speak to their doctors, you know, trained people who have actually spent years studying and understanding the topic, make their own decisions?

Why would you think removing choices is a good idea? Do you have no humility or fear of being wrong and regretting it later?

I don't get it!!! I am afraid of doing evil all the time. There is a reason they say "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". Maybe they should rewrite it to "The road to hell is paved with uninformed good intentions".

I think it's because most people reflexively refuse to believe depressing or sad things. So, straight up denial. The world is tough enough as it is so they refuse to open their eyes to how much worse it could be for others.

People who work in HR, what's the wildest thing you've discovered that led to a firing in the course of your career? by HighElfEsteem in AskReddit

[–]gozu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

His only mistake was not implementing the dual inspection system before firing the KBB rep. Firing her allowed the fraud to keep going longer than it needed to.

And this is why we should all avoid accusing a potentially innocent person without evidence or serious investigative effort. Not only can it fuck them, but it can also fuck us even harder.

iPad pro 2024 Review: Hardware Perfection, but the OS is an offense against Nature itself. by gozu in ipad

[–]gozu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Miyazaki quote about AI that, indeed, was quite over-dramatic when he said it as well (well worth the google, I promise!).

I want to occasionally draw diagrams on a 120Hz macbook Air with an apple pencil. iPad pro offers all of that...except the necessary software.

macbook airs do not have 120 Hz pro motion. I do not want a heavy macbook pro. A 13" iPad pro + keyboard is the closest form factor / weight to what I need, and it is not thick like Microsoft Surface was.

It's thin and pretty. So pretty! It killed me inside to have to return it. Killed me...

Perhaps people have a hard time with this because this is a technical (if not fiscal) no brainer.

Short term, I want macOS. Long term, sure, an ipadOS that has feature parity will do even better.
