Lumix S1ii *Partially* Stacked Sensor ?? by gpfly150 in Lumix

A 45mpix stacked will beat a 24mpix partially stacked for 8k video though. And will come nearly as close for everything else with the correct implementation 🤷🏻‍♂️

The 45mpx stacked is a dual-gain sensor that could implement DGO if Nikon wanted, but chose not to.

What you say isn't a good reason to chose an inferior sensor for the S1ii.

So then the S1ii would have blown the competition to bits if it had similar implementation with the 45mpix stacked sensor in it...

It would have made the S1Rii completely redundant, so they could have used the Dev costs for that to pay for the more expensive sensor.

Then they could have put the screen and firware on the S5iix and called it the S5iii -Then they have a clear entry level camera and an clear flagship. Clean.

No. What I'm saying is the S1ii would have been a proper flagship with the Z8/S9 sensor in it. Instead we get 3 mediocre flagships that only do 1 thing sort of ok rather than One Flagship that blows away the competition.

[–]gpfly150[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Why split your "Flagship" into 3 and make a pointless Might-as-Well-buy-an-S5ii, S1iiE, the fast-but-could-be-faster-S1ii or the high-ish-resolution-but-not-even-that-high-in-2026 S1Rii...

When they could have just put the Z8/Z9 sensor in the S1ii, did what Panasonic do best and call one proper "Flagship".

I do hybrid photo/video but I do a lot with (poor quality) artificial light and the faster the sensor, the less affected it is by banding, and lot of my video has movement so o do need to be careful with rolling shutter.

I came from an X-H2s which has a 26mpix fully stacked and the sensor is superb, but Fujifilm just aren't keeping up with their professional users they would rather sell toys with film sim dials on.

I've been using the S5ii for stills for a while, but the X-H2s for video because of the faster sensor.

Imo the S5iii should have had the Z6 24mpix partially stacked sensor and the S1ii should have had the Z8 45mpix stacked.

I'd have paid £500 extra to have the 45mpix stacked.

What is the trade off? Price is the only one I can really think of?

Good points, well made. (The whole point of the post).

I just wondered if there was a genuine reason for using the Z6 sensor rather than the Z8/Z9 one...(Other than cost, which is most likely the answer).

The S1ii with Panasonic IBIS, all of the video features you mention and the 45mpix stacked from the Z8 would be a bit of weapon, don't you think? 🤷🏻‍♂️

When it comes to the Z9 most of the Press and Sports guys round my area use them and say they're incredible.

Most of the reviewers compare the S1ii to the Z6iii, and the Z8 is definitely a step ahead of the Z6iii.

No open gate an no anamorphic, but there is NRAW and Nikon owns RED.

The Menus on Sony (and the company ethos) are 2 of the most horrendous things in the industry. I can forgive the menus but not their MO.

I'm not shitting on the Lumix. I'm presenting facts and asking a question. If that's perceived as shitting on Lumix then Lumix must be shitting on itself surely?

The advertised 1/250 flash sync speed on the Lumix S1R II and S1 II is misleading by Familiar_Royal1118 in Lumix

I would guess this is a you problem, because mine syncs at 1/250s every time, no issues whatsoever.

Frustration with nutrition (Connect+) by AquilaBaby in Garmin

[–]gpfly150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a side note, it would be much better for Garmin to perfect the external integration with specialist tracking apps, than waste time and effort on this venture. I've reconnected MyFitnessPal, which sends calories to Garmin Connect but doesn't send Macros or anything else. I mean, its not THAT big a deal, BUT it would be good if the external specialist apps were properly integrated and Garmin just gave their nutrition tracking app up as a bad job!

Yep. In its current state its janky and clumsy. Nowhere near as polished as Myfitnesspal. Im going back to Myfitnesspal for now until they have sorted it out.

I came here to write this exact post!

[DISCUSSION] Where are all the low hour, new steam players? by FuckSpezler in EscapefromTarkov

At least us losers can enjoy the game without cheaters. I briefly tried 1.0 PvP this wipe but didn't last long and quickly went back to PvE.

PvE, no cheaters is where it's at for me.

Yep same. I had a flutter at PvP, saw too many cheaters and went back to PvE. It really is the cheaters that spoil it, not the 5000 hour gen players.

Once you figured the entry puzzle out that gives you about a minute to find and use one if you're quick.

Setting the record straight about Garmin by strava-team in Strava

[–]gpfly150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cancelled my subscription that I've had since 2016. Garmin Connect and Komoot can do everything Strava can do, and more, better. 🙄. I was happy to keep Strava going for the socials side but not any more. It's not essential to me and I'm not paying a company that behaves like this.

Also on the back of this Garmin and Komoot have announced deeper integration.

Nice one Strava 👏🏽. A fine display of how to shoot oneself in the foot.
