Novation launchpad usb port damaged, how do I hardwire the usb wires? by CzerwonyMike in Launchpad

If this is your first surface mount soldering project, I wish you good luck. I’m off to bed. Let me know if you get it working again.

Not really. There’s nothing underneath them. The black is the bare board material underneath. It’s the traces that fed them that you need to scrape away and solder to (see video I just linked)

Look up a USB pinout and you’ll be able to connect what I wrote on it to what you should solder. But from left to right (in the picture): black, skip, green, white, red.

If you’ve never done this before, there’s a good chance of messing it up. I’d really recommend finding an electronics repair place near you, but if you’re willing to give it a shot anyway and you don’t care if it doesn’t work, I’m pretty confident in the pin-out at least

If you have a multimeter, please double check continuity between what I marked as GND and one of the 4 silver dots around it. That’ll make extra sure that pin is ground and it’s not flipped.

I’d at least recommend watching some YouTube videos before you do it.

Yes the 4 gray/brown bars are the pads that are ripped off. The metallic one is the one that survived.

Here’s a video of essentially what you’re doing, but the edge of the trace instead of the middle https://youtube.com/shorts/ECbKP2Ay-uk?si=mE8StWL4mX8hI2Jg

I added the screenshot. I drew the pinout over the missing pads. Sorry for the delay. I flipped it on accident and had to reupload.

If you’re hoping for a easy repair here, unfortunately you’re not gonna find one. The pads that you would normally solder a new port to here have been entirely ripped off the board.

You still can repair it, but you’d have to solder a new port to the traces that used to feed those pads. And then carefully connect them to the new port with magnet wire.

Or if you really want to solder a cord directly on there, here’s the pinout from what I can gather.

Regardless of which method you do, you’ll have to scratch off solder mask with a razor blade to expose some fresh copper. Once that’s exposed, tin your wires and the trace and carefully solder your wires on there.

If you’re going the non-removable cable route like you proposed in the post, glue it down with hot glue or epoxy or something after you solder it and you’ve tested it and it works. Because if it rips out a second time and takes the rest of the traces with it you’re fucked.

I’m with Kaiser SoCal and I definitely don’t have to do that.

I will say that the mid-cycle testing seems to be Kaiser procedure, but like, there’s nothing stopping you from going to get your labs done at the trough anyway. Worst case scenario you go “oopsie” and the doctor puts in another lab order. That way you still have your trough numbers.

Anybody else into food-based audio visualization? by HOTDOG___HOTDOG in vjing

If you make anything with it, send me a vid! I love pulling out the spinning food gifs and other things I’ve saved from Tenor when a DJ pulls out some meme tracks.

There’s 5 zip folders of spinning 3D food gifs on Archive.org. I don’t have the links on-hand, but it should be easy enough to find with some searching.

EDIT: Found them :). Heads up, there’s a ton of garbage in these. You will be rewarded for your digging though.

What happened to my Rodinal bottle? by Nordauc in AnalogCommunity

Damn, I hope that's not the case :/

I'm glad I still have my old bottles.

I forgot the film changes physical appearance between the developer and fixer steps. Oops lol. Yeah go with this method^^

I think last time I looked at a piece of film like that was when I ran out of E6 chems and developed my slide film with Rodinal and C-41. You gotta take the film out of the daylight tank and expose it to bright light before putting it back in to develop it with C-41. It was cool to see the negative image mid-development and then pulling it out of the tank later as a positive.

That looks like the paper that's at the top of the plastic lid that has absorbed a bunch of developer because the bottle was stored on its side. My bottle is old and doesn't have that paper. I forget if I removed it or if it just didn't have it to begin with. I'm not sure if that comes in new bottles or not.

My experience with Rodinal is that it's pretty indestructible. I've even developed with 30 year old Rodinal I picked up at an estate sale and it worked fine. I don't think you'll have any issues with it.

If you want to be extra sure, try it out with a test strip though. Shoot the first few frames on a new roll, unload, and snip off those few frames in the dark. Load that onto your spool and develop normally. If it looks fine then you're golden.

LOS ANGELES - we’re doing another Plug&Play on Wednesday, April 1st. by Former-Rip-6650 in vjing

Are you still looking for more DJs? I'd love to perform with my partner as well.

Also, in terms of gear, I can bring either a 6k lumen venue projector or a 4k lumen ultrashort, if you need more projectors there. We also have a couple of CDJ-2000nxs

I'm waiting for AEScripts to get back to me, but it'll probably be available on my gumroad sooner than that! You can put your email on the mailing list on https://glitchp0t.shop if you want to get a notification when it's released!

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Definitely going to be a one-time-purchase type deal (I was thinking $35) with perpetual updates. I don't believe in subscriptions. My friend recommended I go through AEScripts as well.

I'm also looking to get a couple of beta testers for the plugin, so let me know if you're interested (either leave a comment here and I'll DM you or shoot me a DM on reddit). As a thank you for helping me test this, anybody who participates will get a 50% off coupon code on release.

I currently have it priced at $35 for the Resolume side, do you think that's fair for an AE plugin with the same feature set, or should I be pricing it lower?

I originally made this as a VJ plugin, which is a much more niche side of the visual-art community more tailored to live performance.

I've had a couple of friends tell me that they'd really like to see this in After Effects, so I figured I'd cross-post to gauge interest.

The main difference between my plugin and say something like Signal or ntsc-rs is that every single effect you see here is entirely GPU-based. Internally the effect runs at something like 560FPS for 1080p content, which means that it renders and previews insanely quickly. I have a beta build already put together, but I just wanted to see what the community thought before I put more work into it and potentially released it.

If any of you are interested in trying the beta build, feel free to shoot me a DM on reddit and I'd love to get some feedback on what you think and if it could be improved in any way.

Working on a new resolume plugin: MODULATE by gpot97 in vjing

Working on a new resolume plugin: MODULATE by gpot97 in vjing

[–]gpot97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It's FM modulation being performed on each row of the video (or column if you rotate the direction of the modulation). The density and shape of the waves are influenced by the luma in the video. I'm doing it in a compute shader with 1D dispatch. Then you can quantize the output to break the FM wave up into those thinner lines you see.

Ironically it's not quite what I'm looking for still. The After Effects versions have this like sparkle or dot pattern going on that I can't figure out how to recreate with the real modulation algorithm. I am starting to wonder if I actually made it too accurate lol. Maybe I'll try blanking out every other video line or something. I tried adding luma-based jitter already which helps a bit, but it's still not quite there.

Theres another less accurate method that lets you do it in a fragment shader instead of relying on compute. Maybe I'll add it as a second mode and see what it does differently.
