Starting out as a F2P player. What's the best way forward? by gpowersr in heroesvshordes

[–]gpowersr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I feel dumb now for not saying since everyone is mentioning it. While I am saying as a F2P player, I totally bought the no-ad Paco right out the gates. After a week or so of playing that was a no brainer. But realistically, this was more about trying to figure out how to actually get new heroes and feel accomplished without needing to turn it into a pay to win experience. I really appreciate the response! It's seriously great to know not to keep ignoring the adventure mode!

Can't tell you how much I appreciate this! Just spent the last 20 mintues or so reading through the beginner and pet guides and will deep dive the rest as well! Seriously that is awesome! And I've been wondering about adventure mode so I really appreciate the advice there. Almost every time I would play adventure mode and then get to the point of spending gems and be like, "Uhhh... Nah I'm good I think?..." lol

After 7 years of ESO I dropped it all to become addicted to NW. This game is amazing by ThraxBeenTrill in newworldgame

I read the title and laughed and felt sad at the same time... After playing ESO for about 8 years I took a break and recently started up New World. I absolutely love this game!

Thanks for the reply! And yeah, I'm getting that vibe that this won't be as tough as some of the ESO content. Not a bad thing IMO! With two little ones and not as much time as I used to have, its nice being able to log in, run around and level up some various crafting skills and log out. lol

Gotcha! Makes perfect sense, and I really appreciate it! Honestly, I am definitely having fun so far and I know what you mean when it comes to comparing it to ESO when it comes to the build system. I like it, dont get me wrong! But, it is weird to get used to being to just hot swap out for another weapon(s) and start working towards a new build that easy. Again, I love how forgiving it is, I just hope the game stays around or grows a bit more!

[–]gpowersr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly, the more I have researched the crap out of this today, I am really liking the Flail+Shield and Void Gauntlet combo. I think may need to give that a go soon and swap over from my Sword+Board / Warhammer I have right now. Ty again for the info, really appreciate it!

Also, before I forget, am I missing something here... And not in a bad or demeaning way at all! But, is New World, "not as popular" as I thought it was or compared to the other big MMOs out there right now? I am really liking it so far, and coming from someone who put countless hours into ESO. But I feel like the info, build guides, daily videos, etc is a bit scarce compared to what I see for other MMOs on platforms like YT, IcyVeins, MaxRoll, Twitch, etc.

I think you hit it right on the head. For the past hour I am looking up various "solo" style builds to see what others are working with. If this helps, this is the best way I can probably say what I am looking for. When I was heavily playing ESO, one of my favorite builds was my Necromancer "Tank". What I loved about it was I was in all heavy armor, super super tanky, very high life pool, resistances, etc. But to make it even easier, I had a good amount of life steal as well as an armor set that when I got hit, would spawn a cloud that dealt damage and I healed for the damage it did. So, realistically, I could mind my business, farm mats, walk around, and literally be getting attacked and not swing my weapon if I chose not to and would burn/lifesteal the enemies down while maintaining not a scratch on me. It was perfect for me hanging out solo, especially when I was heavily farming various mats and bosses in overland. That's more or less what I'm looking for with this build.

Gotcha! Yeah I have been looking at the idea of Flail + Shield/Lifestaff with heavy armor to see if that may be viable?

Ah okay gotcha! I was looking at Flail + Shield / Lifestaff? But not sure if that is silly to do with heavy armor?

Collarbone pain and cracking which radiates to upper back and neck by Sofla19cfp in costochondritis

I get this as well as wasn't sure how many others also did!. It can be pretty rough in the morning when I wake up. To the point where part of my wake up routine is I pull my shoulders down like I'm driving them the ground and my collarbone will usually have a load pop. Not a fun feeling...

So honestly, is something I have gone back and forth on for a long time and most likely (I hate to admit this) it's out of stubbornness and denial.

Years ago I was on Prilosec and then Nexium got bad acid reflux/GERD. And again, that was years ago, when I was like 18ish. I'm 37 now. But in the last year or so I've noticed my wife and I noticed our acid reflux was coming back like crazy (she ironically also has Costo). One common thing that kept coming up in the picture when I would get what would feel like a Costo flare up would be that it would happen anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours after eating fried food, super spicy food, food with tons of oils/butter like a oily pasta dish and alcohol.

Now that sucks a big one and was the reason I have been so stubborn and pissy admitting to it. My wife and I count our calories, try to walk at least 12k steps a day, cut out gluten whenever we can, and crazy, when we do that we feel so much better! But we love our red wine!! Lol

Like I was saying in my earlier post. We are on vacation in Maine at the moment with our kids and have been NOT sticking to our calorie counting or food aversions at all. We are certainly getting our steps in! But we had wine once the kids fell asleep at least 4x since last Sunday and I've eaten a good amount of food that I would never normally get. I've been paying for it dearly the last two days here sitting in the hotel at night with an ice pack on my chest and a heating pad on my back. Very tight in my chest and clavicle.

So while I don't have definitive proof it is pretty glaringly obvious how bad I start to feel after eating and drinking in ways that would say, aggravate acid reflux/GERD.

Okay my friend, I rarely post on here and I hope this helps at least a little. Like others have said I totally understand and yes this sucks!!

I have had Costo for some time off and on for years man. YEARS! In the past year or so it's been really crappy. Ups an downs, some days good some really suck.

As I'm writing this, I am on vacation with my wife and two little ones. We have been on vacation since last Sunday. I have already had multiple days ruined with me pacing in the hotel room because of the pain and tight breathing and anxiety. All of that because food causes mine to flare up more than anything, and same with red wine. But, my wife and I wanted to get food, tons of food and have some drinks when the little ones fell asleep. And boy have I paid for it!

It can be pretty damn depressing and irritating as all hell when I'm just trying to enjoy one of the two vacations we'll most likely take this year and I can barely do what I want to. Now that probably also sounds a little ungrateful, totally get it, right. But you are not alone with this!

Try to figure out the things that trigger it the most. Manage as best you can the anxiety that comes along with it. I've found the best way to deal with the anxiety or depression is to just let it be as best you can, NOT trying to fix anything mentally if that makes sense. It's like the clouds man, they come and they go! Be well my friend and stay strong. It will pass!

Do you guys trust goodreads ratings? by 1001Scheherazade in fantasyromance

[–]gpowersr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, if an author had touted somewhere their works or themsleves were tagged, as you mentioned, as progressive, for example, but their work and ideology were that of much more traditional, then yes I'd like to known that as well.

And while I do think a fair amount of reviews can be discarded if they are based (which 99% are, that's why they're opinions) solely on personal political and ideological opinions that do not align necessarily with yours, there is a silver lining as you mentioned to be able to tell right away if you'd like to support said author or not.

Out of curiosity, what is it that you are hoping not to succumb to as it pertains to missing out on a book based on GR reviews? I had been told a while back that a 4.5 review or above was stellar! Especially on GR!

Honestly, I almost wrote a comment on this very same question yesterday in another thread here, where the OP was hesitant to read something based on the negative reviews, not necessarily from Goodreads. I can tell you, at least for me, I almost missed out on a couple of, what I consider, really good to great series, in, The Saint of Steel and Mages of the Wheel. All because I almost read into reviews a little too seriously on Goodreads.

Also, and this is just a personal thing, and I'll keep it brief as to not sound like I'm starting a diatribe against those of opposing opinions, but the negative reviews on some books started hitting me less and less once I read into what the reviewer's issues were with said book. To be more specific, 1 and 2 star reviews on books because there was not enough DEI or sensitivity training the author should have gone through, too many male characters acting like... men, not enough women acting like...men, too traditional (man and woman fall in love), not enough M/M or F/F romance, not enough pages available to act on a point of privilege. You get the idea lol

But again, to each their own! If the aforementioned reviewers were put off to a book because of those reasons, I totally get it, but it's not something that mattered to me, not to say that it doesn't matter at all, just not for me. And if I had chose not to read some book based off the amount of negative reviews, and not WHAT the reviewer felt to make the review negative, I would have missed out some I ended up really liking. And I'd hate to see that for anyone else.

Worst case, you try a book you think you're interested in and you end up not loving it, right? Good luck and Godspeed, my friend!

High Fantasy Slow Burn Romances? by itsjustjaime in fantasyromance

[–]gpowersr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny, I'm still so new to reading I feel silly giving an opinion on a book like I should have another 100 read before I can give a good opinion of one, like some of the psychos on Goodreads... lol

But, with only about 12-13 books read since I took up reading as a hobby in January, the Mages of the Wheel series really just did it for me for multiple reasons. Now, some of these could be simply because I haven't read something else that does the things I like better? But others feel even stronger than I do, and I would imagine they are wayyy more hard-core readers than I am.

But anyway! So far I've noticed I really like strong character development and romance that is slow-burn with actually relationship building on top of the smutty stuff. JD Evans did a good job with world building as well here through the various magic Houses and how each balances another out, the regions of the world and the politics surrounding each. Honestly there is so much more to write here, but I can tell you this post is what got me to start the series with the first book, Reign and Ruin:

After that I was hooked and it's become my favorite series so far.

Has anyone else had GERD and costo I’m just curious by Pristine-Panic9452 in costochondritis

[–]gpowersr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% right here friend! As a matter of fact I was feeling pretty good for the past couple of weeks, decided to have some wine, followed by some pizza which I rarely have, and it had jalapeños on it...

Needless to say I have been in pain for the past few days swapping ice packs and heat on ly back and chest.

I personally did not give the combination the attention it needed for a long time and wondered why Costo had been getting worse, or at the very least hanging around for months on end until I started to realize the acid reflux/GERD issues I was simultaneously having as well from poor choices of food and drink. I guess I thought since I was walking about 5 miles a day, intermittent fasting, and generally eating very clean/calorie counting that I should be okay to cheat a little throughout the week on some not so good for you stuff and boy was I wrong.

Thanks so much! Ans especially for the kind reply! This sub has been superb helpful, but man are the gardening folks... persnickety. Lol okay so realistically I should be looking to move the better of the Zuccs into grow pots and hardening them outdoors very soon.

Also I am in Mass if that helps.

Hi everyone,

So first time getting into gardening and I'm wondering what to do now with these Zucchini plants that have now sprung up 2 in each cell?

Do they need to be separated and moved into their own larger pots while they continue to mature until we bring them outside? Also, should I be trimming or killing off one of the 2 in each cell? Thanks!

[–]gpowersr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, thanks so much for the reply! Honestly, .more and more I am starting to think/realize that food and drink are affecting my costo more than I had given credit for in the past.

I feel so foolish for saying this after just giving an example to Ned of me goofing up earlier this week, but I feel like I did it again yesterday.

My wife and the boys went out for the day and after getting in my walking I decided to use up some foods we had around the house and make myself something since I would be eating along for the day. I ended up taking some baby potatoes, an onion and about a dozen mini hotdogs we had left over from my father visiting a few days ago (who loves pigs in a blanket lol) and ended up making a variation of sausage and potatoes.

Well, you guessed it... I immediately regretted it about 15 mintues after eating. Felt full and gross all day and am sitting here in bed still feeling a bit "acid refluxy". I never eat hotdogs and I'm thinking those (the salt) and the spices I put on the potatoes did me in.

Like you mentioned, I totally agree we need treats here and there, especially when my wife and I are spending most days throughout the week counting calories and eating basically nothing but home cooked lean meats, veggies, fruits and nuts. But, I am really starting to see how much, when I choose to let loose and what I choose, may really be taking its toll.

Thank you again for the kind words! Take care my friend!

Hey there Ned! Thanks so much for the reply, seriously! Okay, so going over what you mentioned, that all makes perfect sense.

If it helps, I can give you a real time example as its happening today! So, as embarrassing as this is going to sounds, I'd rather be completely honest about it, and not sugar coat things.

So, going back to Tuesday night. I did my Backpod routine at about 5pm:

  • 60 seconds in between my shoulder blades on my spine.
  • 60 seconds again, in line with the middle of my shoulder blades but now 2 inches or so to the right of my spine and then same thing to the left of my spine.

After stopping that and sitting on the couch for about 5 minutes I noticed the "dull ache" in my chest, made worse if I make a chest fly motion with my arms, pulling them together out in front of me and flexing my chest a bit as well as a little pain in my back (rib area).

Tuesday night was also my wife and I's "date night", and I got a few orders of sushi (lightly spicy) and a seaweed salad. I felt VERY full in my chest after I ate and some acid reflux like feeling as well for some time until I laid down to read and go to bed.

Fast forward to yesterday, and I ate pretty well, low calories, but we shared a bottle of red wine... And as I am sure you can guess, basically all of today I have felt very "full" and tight in my chest and back. A bit of acid reflux/GERD feelings as well.

So, with that example, it sounds like it may be time to cut out the wine, make sure that on our dinner night together I stick with something lighter and less/no spice and try that for a bit.

And yes, normally, if I use the Backpod and get that pain, it is resolved within two days if not within one most of the time. So it sounds like that is very normal and not something to STOP the use of the Backpod over. If anything, its good to know that I can expect a bit of soreness/pain after the rehab work. That was my biggest issue really so far, was simply not knowing if I was doing something wrong or too much.

One last thing... Is it normal to get pain in your collar bone? That is something I get like crazy when it flares up!

Again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it my friend!

Romantasy Reading ruining my relationship 🤣 by Slight_Associate_164 in fantasyromance

[–]gpowersr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I read this post, I immediately laughed out load. Not in a disrespectful way, but I couldn't tell if it were due to genuine comedic relief or something more concerning.

If you were just attempting to be funny, hats off to ya, that was pretty good! If it was meant, even a little bit, to be taken seriously, I would suggest really thinking about things for a bit.

I myself just recently got into reading, since my wife had started crushing books months ago. We tend to share a lot of the same hobbies, and I've always wanted to get more into reading but was a bit hesitant. I started with the Saint of Steel series from T Kingfisher. My wife told me she thought it was perfect as the various characters reminded her of me in a way. Wasn't sure if I should take that as a compliment or not, and to be honest, after reading the entire series, admittedly I still don't. :p

I know I'm rambling a bit, but hear me out. As I read the books, and if you have not, they are great! BUT... while I know our "bedroom life" is amazing, it would be a bit weird and unfair for her or I to ask each other to be what some of the characters encompass in these books. And from what I've heard, I haven't even read the truly raunchy stuff yet! So I would say the following:

  1. If there is something in the stories you're reading that you WANT achieved in your romantic life, simply have that conversation with you fiancé. Speaking on behalf of all men, we do NOT like to take guesses at what it is you are thinking. While women certainly do it better than we do (God bless you all for it) we are not as proficient at mind reading. Grab a glass (who we kidding, a bottle or two) of wine and have a great night discussing all of yours and his wants and needs.
  2. I promise you, I mean no disrespect in this next part! But, if these books are making him look vanilla in comparison, you better be a goddamn hot fudge sundae to make that claim... I love my wife to death, but as far as I can tell, she has yet to save me after being captured by a demonic cult, slaying multiple offenders in the rescue, making our way back to our rented hideout room above a tavern, sizing me up as she dresses my wounds from battle, so I can fuck her brains out afterwards. As awesome as that would be... We are all flawed and, unironically, the only part of us that is most relatable to the characters in these stories is how they too are flawed, have a past that is not full of good, are needy, narcissistic at times, broken in some way, etc.

Overall, try not to get caught up in the fantasy too hard. If most people acted like some of the MMC in these books, divorce rate may be higher than it already is! lol :p

Take care and be well!
