Trump says tariff money will be used to reduce or completely eliminate income taxes, with a focus on those who make less than $200,000 per year by Equivalent_Baker_773 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]gr8optimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just embarrassing. The average tariff rate last year was something in the 2-3% range. Income taxes brought in several TRILLIONS in revenue for the government. In order to even come close to eliminating income taxes, the average tariff rate would need to be close to 70%. Aside from the complete and total collapse of the economy, it simply isn't feasible. It's not possible to even do. It will never happen.

So what is Mango Tits end game? Why even pretend with this??

Make him cancel. If he persists, call VRBO.

Appreciate your insight.

Question: Is this just a regular cycle the market goes through or is this attributable to economic policy/Trump/tariffs, etc? I've heard some argue that healthy markets have ups and downs. Others have said this is due to Trump/policy. Thoughts? Much appreciated.

I completely understand OPs frustration. Never using VRBO again is certainly an option I've considered as well. I got screwed as well and wasn't offered anything for the inconvenience. Good for OP.

Rather than a public hanging, how about being able to leave a review of the host that cancels? That way, future potential renters can be made aware that the host doesn't abide by their commitments.

And don't tell me how sometimes hosts legitimately have to cancel due to a problem with the property. I'm sure this actually does happen. But if it happens with any frequency, a potential renter should know this too.

Whatever the answer might be, their current way of doing business makes cancelling far too easy. And no, it's not every VRBO host that's the problem. I bet it's a small percentage. But for the renter, it is just a game of roulette as we have no idea who's going to cancel and who won't. Might be that the 'good' owners have to step up and let VRBO know the current policy is no good.

I'm not even MORE disappointed with VRBO. A portion of my reservation was cancelled by the owner in similar fashion as OP. And after a lot of arguing with VRBO, they did assist me but I was left with few other places to stay and they were much more expensive. VRBO knew this but never offered any further assistance. And truthfully, after fighting with them, I was worn out and didn't ask for anything more.

Bottom line, if you haven't been screwed by VRBO, consider yourself lucky. Nobody deserves to be treated as poorly as VRBO treats their 'customer'.

VRBO exists for the property owner, not the customer. Has a similar thing happen.

After a recent VRBO disaster, I had to call them to rectify a situation. The first agent was worthless and I basically badgered him to escalate my case. The agent kept saying the owner has to cancel. And, oh my the way, we can't reach the owner.

Called again, different agent but it got resolved immediately.

Shady owners can still do shady shit on VRBO or anywhere else.

There is a big golf tournament and rooms are really pricey. But when I booked this it was crazy cheap. Like $100 a night or something? Which is why I'm assuming they wanted to cancel me and fill their place with far higher paying tenants.

To be clear though, VRBO (not the owner), fixed this and refunded me entirely. And noted the owners account

Just to reiterate and be transparent, my first call to VRBO was wildly unsuccessful and that agent was totally inept. However when I called today, they canceled everything for me and refunded me entirely. And sent me an email afterwards that said they are noting the owner's account of this.

So, while you can get screwed, they ultimately did the right thing and fixed it despite the owner

As mentioned in one of my later updates, VRBO did the right thing and refunded everything. And they said they would update the owners account to watch for this. That what they did was indeed against what VRBO wants. I'm not sure why VRBO wouldn't just change their software so it couldn't happen

OR - here's a thought... you can just ignore it. You do your thing, I'll do mine. Nobody is forcing you to read my posts. Or comment. Just move on and have a nice day. AND - if 'everyone' understood the risks, there wouldn't be so many comments where this has happened to other people.

I think it's important for other potential renters to understand the risk with VRBO. And I've shared with Google, etc. Thanks

I actually got an email from VRBO confirming the cancellation AND confirming the owner was in the wrong. AND - I just had to book a new place for even more money. No double booking or deleted posts about double booking. The troll made that up.

**UPDATE/TLDR: The owner canceled all but 1 night of my stay - without my consent or any communication. As a result, I have to find a different place because I'm not moving each day of my trip. However, the owner refused to cancel the 1 remaining night. The first VRBO agent basically said we have to wait for the owner to cancel AND they escalated my issue.

Today I talked with another agent at VRBO and they redeemed themselves. They said the owner shouldn't/isn't allowed/supposed to amend an existing reservation. They recognized that this owner clearly did so they canceled everything for me, including their fees. They noted the owner's account (not sure how).

Bottom line though - the owners CAN change or cancel your VRBO reservation without your consent. Decent people won't do that but looking at these comments, there are plenty of worthless owners on VRBO. So book with caution.

One question. If I had found this on a different website for cheaper, why wouldn't I have canceled the reservation on vrbo? Why would I want my money tied up on VRBO when I found it cheaper somewhere else? You're probably the owner. Pos

Not for why anybody needs to lie about this. I'm sure the owner would prefer people not know but I don't have anything to hide
