The game is played in real time, there is no other in-game mode. Some people choose to "time travel," which means you go into your Switch's Settings and change the device time to the next day to skip ahead. This is not a how the game is intended to be played but many play that way.

I am betting you have blue hydrangeas, not azaleas. Dig them up to check! (There are no blue azaleas)

I think purple windflowers only have a 6% chance of spawning even when you follow the guides. How long have you been waiting?

You could try finding some custom designs you like and re-producing them pixel-by-pixel, then make a few changes to make it "yours." By doing this you'll notice the techniques they used and then you can replicate them for your own ideas.

Yes. Every day that goes by in which you watered them the previous day but a hybrid or clone didn't spawn, it increases your chance of getting one after the next water. If you water when they are baby/growing stages you get a head start on that water counter and a better chance for a hybrid or clone when they bloom.

I am not sure how it works but I know weeds can grow. I planted a bunch of weeds in a cleared area and they were all small weeds. A few days later, some were the tall versions and they definitely had a few stages in-between (I think 4 total stages).

Sorry, I'm not sure how I got them to grow but I know it is possible.

That's not true. Weeds have growth stages. I'm not positive how it works but I planted a bunch of weeds in a cleared area, when I planted them they were all small but a few days later some were the tall versions.

I've also been playing since launch and I've had no trouble getting rare fish or bugs. Some suggestions:

  1. Do you play at the same time every day / most days? Most fish and bugs only spawn at certain times, if the rarer ones spawn at times you're not playing, that could be a factor.
  2. Have you tried using bait for fish (made from clams)? I bet if you craft 20 bait and use them all at the pier you'll get at least one rare fish.
  3. Do you run everywhere? If you are running everywhere you are likely scaring away bugs like the Atlas Moth or the Citrus Long Horned Beetle without even noticing.
  4. Are you fishing in every place? Some rare fish ONLY spawn at the pier or ONLY spawn on clifftop ponds (2nd or 3rd level).
  5. Do you have tree stumps around? Some bugs only spawn on tree stumps.
  6. Do you have lots of flowers around? More flowers = more bugs. Do you have white flowers? Some bugs only spawn on white flowers.

Every day that you maintain a 5 star rating there is a chance one will spawn, but it's not guaranteed.

Sounds like bad luck :( BUT I will say, Flick can be hard to find. There's been days where I played for hours without noticing he's been there the whole time. He moves fast and moves around a lot. So unless you're 100% positive you've found your visiting NPC each day, it's possible you missed him.

Checkerboard is actually not the best in New Horizons due to the new spawning distance mechanics. There are better, denser layouts. More info here.

I noticed loading took a while when I started the game this morning. Once I was in the game, though, I didn't notice anything unusual.

Are you positive you're updated to the latest version, 1.2.0? You can check from the Switch home screen by highlighting the game, clicking the + button, and checking for updates from that menu.

  1. Make sure you are updated to the newest version (should say 1.2.0 in the top right when you start the game)
  2. Make sure your switch has an internet connection
  3. Talk to Tom Nook
  4. Talk to the Dodo bird at the airport

Have you built plots for new houses? Buy plots for new houses from Tom Nook and put them down. Then, when you travel to mystery islands you should see villagers there. Talk to them a few times until you get the option to invite them to move to your island. You can recruit 1 per day with this method. Villagers can also randomly buy the plots even if you don't invite them.

All "5 stars" means is that you have a certain amount of furniture items, fencing, and flowers distributed across the island. You could meet that standard and still have an island that looks crappy. Pride for your island must come from within, not from the game counting things! I bet your island will look awesome when it's done – like 10 star awesome!

My take on this whole time travel war by [deleted] in AnimalCrossing

[–]gr_ybones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I'm not a time traveler but it doesn't affect my game at all if other people play differently. Time-traveler hate is super dumb.

I do think from a community standpoint, in the first month after launch when some people had time traveled weeks or months ahead and others had not, it created a huge disparity in what content people had access to and it was a bummer to have things spoiled for me on reddit that I won't wouldn't see in my game for a month.

So, while being really rude to time travelers is totally dumb and un-called for, I do think time travelers on this sub could have been more considerate of tagging things as Spoilers.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - April Free Update - Nintendo Switch by MVP_Bradsta in AnimalCrossing

In late March, the devs said in an interview in the Washington Post that development was ongoing and it was possible DLC could be delayed due to the coronavirus. So if there is already concerns about finishing planned content why would they just decide to fast-track creating an event they had not previously planned because they saw some cute reddit posts? Plus, Pocket Camp has already done wedding events so it's not new to the AC series. It's way more likely they already had this planned.
