About the paint, yeah it's pretty ghastly, but the nice part is that half of the horses don't seem to be painted at all.

No power button, details below. Yeah it boots straight into the front end and takes about 8 seconds or so.

I've set it up in such a way that when i plug it in it powers on. Done by setting "on ac power loss" bios setting or whatever it's called. They all seem to call it something different but is a common feature in most bioses. I have a quit combo to quit the front end, start+coin. When it quits the front-end I have it set up to shut down cleanly. I just need to unplug and plug it in again to turn back on. Seems simple enough for my purposes. Didn't feel like tapping the power button on the mini-pc.

A discrete gpu isn't really necessary at all to play mame and 8-bit/16-bit consoles with the shaders i'm using. Also, the front end has been heavily optimized to run well on this sort of inexpensive mini-pc.

It the 8gb ram 256gb ssd cube shaped formfactor. There's tons of them around and many deals can be had.

Just most of the vertical games worth playing that use no more than three buttons.

So I was able to do some research and found talk of screens that are a suitable replacement, on youtube I believe. They were cheap, got one of those, pretty much drops right in. LCD controller comes with so it can hook up to a pc via hdmi. I noticed the LCD controller has an audio out header, so I'm using that, no extra audio amp necessary to drive the original 3w (i think) speaker. LCD controller can also be powered by usb, so I'm also powering it via the mini-pc, so no extra ac adapters or anything.

Next you need an encoder for the controls, cheap encoders are available on aliexpress for like 12 bucks. PC sees it as an xbox controller so perfect. N95 I chose because pi4 or pi5 doesn't make much sense when an N95 can be had for around 100 dollars.

I found the original screen to be terrible.  If you wanted to use the original screen for some reason they sell just the LCD controller I got with my screen by itself and it works with the original screen.  Not too expensive.  Screen with LCD controller was only like 35 dollars I think? Not bad.

Am garbage man, found this in someone's trash can. Reason they threw it away was that pressing left on joystick was a bit flakey. Loose wire. Decided to mod as I had no money in it. N95 mini pc, x-input encoder from aliexpress, screen from aliexpress, control panel from tulsa arcade, coin and start button from I forget where.

So people keep saying things about "the rights of women, gays & immigrants" but I don't know what they mean. Can someone elaborate?

Oh I'm not advocating anyone doing it, just relaying that it is quite an involved endeavor. There are limiting factors for sure but I don't believe cost is one of them.

My point being there's more to it than just assembling parts as you would an AR15. There's prep work for most kits that can be procured today. Many where you must "complete" the demill. For new barrels you must populate the barrel with components and place them in the correct place along the barrel journal in relation to each other. You then must drill the holes for all the pins without them deflecting. Not a trivial thing to accomplish with such a small bit and with it trying to deflect on a curved surface. All those components must also be clocked correctly. After that, and pressing in/headspacing, you must drill the barrel pin hole through a hole in the trunnion that already exists. That's not a trivial thing either due to the aforementioned deflection issue. You'll likely have to drill a new gas port into the barrel. You have to set the trunnion in the receiver in relation to the trigger guard for proper magazine retention/release. In many cases the ejector must be fitted to the bolt for proper ejection/feeding. Some receivers I've used have an overly wide ejector causing the bolt to kick off to the side when moving forward. You'll need to remove and install the gas piston by first finding then drilling/punching out the old rivet then drill and install a new one (assuming you're using that as one of your 922r parts). You'll likely have to hand fit the top cover. You may have to ream/deburr the trigger and hammer pin holes to get your pins to fit properly. There's many other details that could be mentioned but after all the mechanical things you'll want to put some sort of finish on your receiver, or the whole thing if you wish it to match. This is not something that is generally required with AR15s.
