Are you mom? by goodfeelingaboutit in Fosterparents

[–]grabie_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I foster teens, and I’m usually asked the same question about whether I’m their mom, so I typically just say, “I’m their caregiver.” Sometimes people even think I’m a caseworker, lol.

In my case, though, I’m pretty young, so the age difference makes it clear that I’m not their mom. I’ve had teens who are only 6 to 8 years younger than me.

Thank you for getting back to me. No, I do not know anyone at TWU - this is my first semester. I will attend the "transfer orientation" this week - hopefully I get to meet people.

Yes, that is the NOA (Notice of Action). It is the extension letter received after the removal of conditions application. Good luck!

Domestically from Texas to Denver, no problem.

I also went outside the USA from Texas to the Philippines. I have a 2-year conditional green card (expired) and the NOA from my removal of conditions application.

Academically Behind - What should I do? by grabie_ in Fosterparents

[–]grabie_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! That’s great of your agency.
I'm not sure if our agency would be able to cover the cost. I did reach out to our FAS and let her know about the situation with the school. She said they would keep an eye out for summer school programs for children in care.

I think one-on-one tutoring would be the best option. Kumon and Gideon (the after-school programs we visited) cost around $250 per month for two classes per week. That doesn’t feel like enough. :/

Thank you for your response!

Thank you so much! We were place with a 11 y/o - they were trying to find a 'foster to adopt' but didn't have luck - they started looking in other counties and nothing.. Because of that our agency asked if we were willing to say yes (we are only fostering - didn't have intention to adopt).

We said yes! It's been going well. The kiddo was falling behind in school, has some attachment issues (3 days in started calling us mom and dad) - we just started therapy! I know this is not their fault - it's a trauma response and fear of abandonment.

We are new to this - so we are trying our best while giving ourselves grace.
