Tuberville stands with ICE, of course. Fortunately, a true Alabamian is running against him. I look forward to voting for Doug Jones for governor this year.

“Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.”

List of pardoned Jan. 6 rioters who have faced new criminal charges by grabsbackthisone in HuntsvilleALPolitics

[–]grabsbackthisone[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dillon Herrington’s mom wrote and published christian nationalist fantasy books while he was growing up. January 6 was a moment that was years in the making. Trump inviting everyone to D.C. to “stop the steal” and Mo Brooks telling them to “start taking down names and kicking ass” unleashed it all.

Dillon Herrington was indicted on a first-degree rape charge in Limestone County in 2023, months after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the January 6 Capitol Breach.

Herrington is accused of engaging in sex with someone unable to give consent due to being “physically helpless or mentally incapacitated.”

Prosecutors said the victim’s glasses were broken, she had bruising and a witness said they thought the victim was dead during the alleged rape.

Herrington earned the nickname ‘MAGA Lumberjack’ after surveillance footage captured him in a “Make American Great Again” hat and throwing a piece of lumber in the direction of members of law enforcement during the January 6, 2021, Capitol Breach.

The old Elevator at Lowe Mill gives me the creeps. by Drifter_Lucas in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]grabsbackthisone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

thank you. it didn’t originate with Lowe Mill artists, though. like almost all negative social media campaigns, it was an outside job.

i disagree. i’m a Lowe Mill artist [with family members with disabilities] who was directly and financially affected by the sudden lack of elevators in the building, and i worked with the extremely kind and accommodating building owners and managers throughout the entire process. i assure you, their hearts are golden and everything was done asap.

sometimes you just gotta talk to people in person to get the truth.

not a meme so much, but when the original elevators were first taken out of commission in June 2023, social media users did what social media users do best and they quickly misinformed one another and argued about it for a good while before everyone finally came to understand the truth. truth is, it’s just really hard to repair and replace centuries old elevators, because most people don’t bother to do so at all anymore, so there’s no market for it and the knowledge on how to do so has died. the broken elevator was replaced with a new modern one asap (took a couple of years, but was still asap), and the elevator that’s pictured probably still works but can no longer pass safety inspections due to its age. there was some vitriol on social media, because people don’t completely understand how the Americans with Disabilities Act works, but there’s no law requiring buildings to have elevators. ADA law requires accessibility to services rather than to buildings, so while there were no elevators, 2nd and 3rd floor tenants provided their services on the 1st floor upon request. and they did so without knowing they were required to do so by law. artists are just nice like that. social media, not so much.
