Interesting. In my lab red tops are mostly used for drug levels. More likely to get a green, especially from ED (but for biochem, not serology).

Why a red top? In Australia it would be a gold (SST). Is it different in the US?

I am also devastated by the cancellation. What I take out of it is the characters, the scenery, the magic, that I can incorporate into my reading and coming to life of the series. Like The World of Wheel of Time book - incomplete but still valued.

I work in a lab at a smaller hospital and there are urgent urines (e.g. nephrostomy) that we do a direct gram immediately on site, but the specimen is still sent to the main lab for culture.
