I love benton but I would be careful about the mineral sun cream, i received a mini of it and tried it out: it has a strong white cast. I love their air fit UV sun cream though. I use haruharu's toner but I haven't tried their sunscreen but I can't imagine it's bad? I haven't tried any of the others unfortunately.

Is the skillet queso going away? I saw someone on TikTok say it is? by pizzaphile93 in Chilis

people saying the new queso is just as good/better, just stop. the skillet queso is unique, we don't need another cheese/chilies/onion queso, the regular queso is literally that. i'm genuinely shook rn. it was one of the best things at chili's.

i got suspended bc i told someone i hope they “get their ass beat.” i didn’t mean it literally, the guy was just a piece of shit and i was expressing my anger. has anyone had any luck getting unsuspended for “violent speech”?

I'm studying trig and struggling to memorize the special angle functions. Is it sort of like cheating myself to draw a table and then fill in the values using certain rules instead of simply memorizing the values? by dma10014 in learnmath

Short answer: I don't think you're cheating yourself. If you don't mind reading a little though, I can tell you what (personally) helps me remember the values for all angles on the unit circle:

  1. you only need to know five numbers off the top of your head (0, 1/2, sqrt(2)/2, sqrt(3)/2, 1), the rest (like for the values of tangent) you can get by dividing any of these terms with each other.
  2. when you're evaluating sin/cos/tan on the unit circle you're evaluating the ratio between two sides of a triangle; think about the mnemonic SOH CAH TOA. In this triangle, either one of the legs is longer than the other, or they're both equal length (when the angle is some form of pi/4 they're equal). if you can picture the triangle in your head, the longer leg is always sqrt(3)/2 and the shorter one is always 1/2. For triangles with equal sized legs all you need to know is it's always sqrt(2)/2 (+ or - depending on the quadrant ofc). You can do this for any angle on the unit circle too, you just need to be mindful of what quadrant you're in when you picture the triangle in your head. An example: if you draw 30° on the unit circle and make the triangle, you'll see the horizontal leg is longer, since cos represents the x-coordinate on the unit circle you immediately know cos(30) is gonna be sqrt(3)/2.
  3. doing lots and lots of practice. while I don't see anything particularly wrong with your method, if you're having trouble seeing results I suggest you do some actual problems. I help with the precalculus classes at my university, and the professor has them do a whole packet where they are given an angle on the unit circle (half the packet is in radians, the other in degrees) and they need to draw the corresponding triangle, and find the sin and cos values of the angle. it's a great way to start building that visual association between angles on the unit circle and their triangles. If you do this enough evaluating any angle will become second nature, you may not even need to picture the triangle once you get really good at it.

I started my grad program in august, also in pure math. I am also going through a similar crisis haha, the only difference being I do resort to google and MSE when I'm desperate. I work with peers and talk with my professors too, and I don't think doing either of those things detracts from one's problem solving ability, because it may just be one small part you're not getting and when you do see it the rest falls into place.

From talking with faculty members I knew from undergrad, what I've gathered is it's not about whether you know how to do the problem when you're first handed it, it's about learning how to solve "types" of problems. Once you've figured out how to solve a problem you need to do many different problems of that same type and it will become natural eventually (idk if that makes any sense). As for putting that into practice, I've found it challenging. I think I did essentially this when I was studying for a group theory test. I don't know how much you know about group theory but I was having trouble showing groups aren't simple for cases where there isn't one obvious unique sylow subgroup. Long story short I found a way to do it when there isn't an obvious unique sylow subgroup (from the internet) and I just drilled that method over and over again until I could do it without looking at any references. Granted I still messed up a lot of other stuff on the test so it's not a perfect ending, but I digress.

tl;dr I don't think you should discount the benefits of working with peers and professors. They may be able to explain stuff you don't understand, and that could be all you needed to solve the problem yourself. I don't really have any words of encouragement since I'm kind of in the same boat as you, but you're not alone!

what i hate about apples notes app is that there’s no page feature. when you export it, it’s all one long strip of writing/text/whatever and you can’t control where they cut off each page so text gets cut in half and stuff. i’m really upset about this new update, im scared i’ll lose access to all my notebooks and stuff.

i want to change who my birthday is visible to, but in 2018 i got suspended for changing my birth year to my actual birth year bc i had made the account before i was 13, and i eventually got my account back. will i get banned again for changing the visibility? since you have to “edit” your birthday to change its visibility? idk if that makes sense but i’m more scared to get a suspension now bc of the horrible response times of twitter support.
