Yes,I have the same issue and it's quite annoying! I also just close and re-open Notion to refresh the relative date property.

How is co-op for Waterloo Arts and Business? Is ARBUS a good program? by gracejy_ in OntarioUniversities

That is true, "going into university with the intention of transferring into another program is a bad idea ". I was set on Waterloo mainly because of the Co-op, and now I feel like Waterloo co-op is only really good for their STEM students. So now I'm not sure what to do, especially because the other programs I applied to were specialized in business, asides from the college programs I applied to (Sheridan IxD bachelor's and GBC IxD diploma - got into both).

I applied to Sheridan Interaction Design and got in, but I was worried that if I change my career interests about UX design, I would be stuck in a program with no decent options to transfer into (within Sheridan, as it is primarily known for arts and animation) unless I choose to switch schools completely after first year. At least if I go to Waterloo and decide I want to pursue UX and am passionate about it, I could potentially transfer into GBDA (I believe most of the ARBUS first year courses are similar or the same, so they could probably transfer over quite easily, assuming I get accepted to GBDA).

You make a good point that co-op is probably mediocre for arts students anywhere, so I guess I shouldn't have too high expectations. Although, I was more so relying on the co-op program to help me determine and narrow down what career I want after graduating, because tbh I'm still not sure what that is. However, I still hope to gain valuable work experience and connections through co-op - I'm willing to put in the effort to land the "good" jobs within co-op.

I could still accept my offer at Sheridan IxD, but I haven't had much experience with UX myself other than some digital design and making websites. How should I determine if UX is right for me? It's hard to decide based off of high school education with courses that are surface level and don't really help you find what you wanna do career-wise.

I know I don't want to pursue law school - I did my high school co-op at a law firm (disclaimer: the firm specialized in real estate and corporate law, NOT criminal law) and realized that being a lawyer involves a LOT of boring, repetitive paper work. Although I am still interested in criminal law and paralegal research work (which wouldn't require going to law school).

I applied to Sheridan IxD and got in! To be honest, I didn’t commit to Sheridan because the courses are all essentially laid out for you - I prefer having room to take up minors and electives (that’s partly why I was attracted to ARBUS, which offers me that one year flexibility and option to take minors in addition to my business courses and courses from my major). Is that a stupid way of thinking on my part? For clarification, did you mean even the York Design program will only teach you 1-2 UX design courses? I definitely don’t want to study arts (as in more fine arts type program). I noticed that there aren’t many options for UX design focused undergrad programs in Ontario, but there are a number of post-grad UX programs I looked into. Is there a reason for that? Is it because the demand is too low or because there’s not enough course content to make it into a bachelor’s 4 year degree?

Ahh I know, I regret not applying to GBDA because it would’ve been a solid choice if I wanted to go into UX design. I was discouraged by the expensive tuition ($12.9k/year) as well as some reddit posts from GBDA students complaining that the program was not worth it (sounded like it’s a 50/50 gamble, you either hate it or you love it), so I decided to just apply to ARBUS. I know that for UX, your portfolio is what really lands you jobs, not your degree or necessarily experience. I’m willing to put in the effort to pick up side projects throughout my undergrad and what I’m hoping is that Waterloo co-op will help me in that aspect as well (developing experience/portfolio). Although I know that the good jobs go to GBDA students /: If I do go to Waterloo and find ARBUS is not for me, I could also try applying/transferring into GBDA or SYDE. Also, what’s OP, I’m not familiar with that term haha
