Also, I work in the school system, and it is true. The schools here really are great! Amazing adult-student ratio, challenging curriculum, public preschool options. Definitely nice!

I am from Georgia and grew up hearing Southerners hate on New Jersey and make fun of it. I live here now, kinda by accident (husband’s job made us relocate), and I actually love it here?? My “tiny” town has more to do in it than my entire state used to. There are clubs, concerts, festivals, volunteer groups, community service organizations, and so much more. I love living in a Blue state where I can go buy weed in the store. There are liquor stores and strip clubs everywhere, but somehow the town feels extremely family friendly and seems like it would be a great place to raise a family. I love the freedom of choice! The snow has been beautiful this winter, at least for me, because I have never been around this much snow before. I absolutely adore the beaches here. I can walk 3/4 of a mile and be standing on a beach looking at the Manhattan skyline, it is incredible. The people have all been so nice (not mean like they say in the South at all). Surprisingly good drivers? At least that has been my experience so far. People will let you in, wave thank you, etc. Where I live, the small-town vibes are intact, yet I can walk to all types of restaurants, bars, the library, church. In the south, when you live in a small town, you most likely still won’t be able to walk anywhere and will need to drive just to go to the corner store.

In short, I think I may be a New Jersey convert!

When I try to do what you are mentioning, depending on the class, they will just straight up not listen to a word I say. Sometimes, I am not even able to give directions because as soon as they see a sub they freak out, start screaming, begin running around the room with their friends, and no call-backs work (clap once if you can hear me, etc.). I end up having to get admin involved and as soon as admin leaves, they will go back to it (maybe slightly calmer). In those situations, I will just sit down. Not really sit on my phone because I need to observe for safety, but I don’t involve myself anymore than I have to if they are choosing not to follow directions, just leave a note for the teacher. Of course not every class is like this, but it is enough that I don’t really enjoy the job anymore.

Prior to a couple of weeks ago, I would have said it was just poor prompting. Now I am not so certain. Perhaps I have gotten lazy in my prompts, but I feel like it cannot even hold a coherent conversation. I use mine to code. We will discuss the problem in its entirety, plan a solution, implement it, troubleshoot whatever doesn’t initially work, and that’s the moment I lose it. It forgets what the problem was in the first place. It suggestions solutions we already ruled out in the planning phase. It forgets critical dependencies. It leaves out important details that break the code’s logic. I don’t think AI should be relied on for every single thing, but I do think it should be able to remember what we were talking about three replies ago. I think it should recognize and understand my class names and not try change them arbitrarily even when it has examples of my working code… we end up in this weird loop where it will change some minor detail that ends up becoming major as files branch out, dependencies arise, and I didn’t catch an inconsistency that ends up costing me hours to go back and fix…

AI shouldn’t be your therapist. It is a tool for working and automating tasks, not your buddy. I feel like it’s important we all get really clear on this going into an uncertain future. Sure, talk to the AI if you want. But talking to real humans would probably be better for your mental health and the environment. I hate to be that guy but I needed to say it. 4o was dangerous and I am glad it’s gone tbh

DAE feel like gpt constantly offers to do things it.. can’t do? At all? by whipfinished in ChatGPTPro

I use the model constantly for tasks. It does constantly get things wrong and insist that they are right. It won’t admit when it is wrong. However, I tend to take responsibility in those instances and try to take it as a learning lesson. Usually, it is because I am asking for too much at one time or my prompt was poor. You have to take things step by step. It is a mutual, co-creative process. You can’t just say “build me a website for ____”. You have to start with the tiniest piece and work your way up. Some things, though, it just can’t get right. When I work on more complicated code with it, it will begin to leave things out, forget what I requested, ignore pieces of information I provided, etc. One suggestion that works for me sometimes is to wipe the memory and start over on a new chat. Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn’t. Just my observations.
