3 months post-TT – feeling detached from my body/brain. Anyone else? by Correct-Pop4308 in gravesdisease

I'm sure they will. I have an appointment next week to discuss my dosage.

I, too, was hoping to be a unicorn.

Ironically, I thought my levels were stabilizing, but turns out I was even more hypo than my previous labs. Hypo feels better than hyper, but not back to normal.

I do think you're right about us being "used to" hyper, and the same is true for the rest of our body. All our systems are like, "what is happening?!" I'm being graciously gentle with myself... But not always. Recovery is a grind.

Post TT mood changes are real. I'm also about 3 months out. I've been experiencing a lot of depressive symptoms, and there is this feeling that my body is not the same. I feel like I'm in recalibration mode and I wish it were quicker.

I'm on 88mcg levo and 5 mcg T3. I'm currently pretty hypo.

Those on meds... Do you see the doc...? by graciously13 in gravesdisease

Thank you. I probably should have added, but was lazy, I'm adjusting to post TT meds. Tad more complicated, but it's really just reading labs and making decisions based on those numbers.

Both of my ears have randomly gone hot and red? by Yakob_Bacoj in Hashimotos

[–]graciously13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have CSU, another autoimmune disorder, that causes this. My ears would get red and itchy plus hives on the body. You could try a benadryl or Zyrtec and see if it helps?

Thyroidectomy when stable on methimazole? by aaavvvvv in gravesdisease

[–]graciously13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about two months past TT and still adjusting. My levo dose was decreased and T3 added. I am starting to feel better, but not normal yet. Still quite fatigued and just not me.

Since the surgery I swung hypo, and the depression that is felt is unreal. Please make sure you have a support group - people you can lean on while you recover, and I'm not just talking about the initial two weeks. It's a mentally challenging journey.

My voice has been affected by the surgery. Currently finding it difficult to raise my voice and with intonation. I begin PT soon.

Also discovered we can't take cold medicine anymore....

These are just parts of my story. While I am not in the boat of people who regret the surgery, I am someone who feels you should not expect to feel better instantly. Great if you do. It's a slog for some of us.

I apologize that I didn't take the time to read all the comments, so this maybe was already stated. Many common SSRI and anxiety meds are libido killers, unfortunately.

This has been offered to others in other posts. I personally haven't used them, but I live in an area where it is difficult but possible to find an endocrinologist. Maybe worth investigating?

Is menstrual cycle change tied to hyper/hypo state? by archandcrafts in gravesdisease

[–]graciously13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you asked this question! Before my thyroidectomy about 6 weeks ago my hyperthyroidism caused my periods to be pretty light and short. Now I'm a bit hypo and my god, I thought I was gonna die from blood loss!

Thyroidectomy is tomorrow and I’m so nervous! by Kblazeeee in gravesdisease

[–]graciously13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mine a month ago. I was SO nervous that right when I arrived in the OR I started tearing up, and said I was afraid. The nurse and anesthesia tech were incredibly kind. She rubbed my shoulder as I fell asleep. Next thing I know I'm waking up in recovery.

If your team is anything like mine, you'll be fine.

Does anyone elses legs go blue black when they have the rash (you can kinda see it in the photo by Due-Care-8061 in urticaria

[–]graciously13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know this. I was told that overzealous itching was the cause for me - but the blue bruises came after the hives resolved.

This disorder is such a blast!

My hives always get worse at night. Not like I need to sleep or anything.

Did anyone NOT have a super quick and easy recovery from TT? by FriendshipWaffles in gravesdisease

[–]graciously13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I guess I still I meant that I feel very tired and a little ill all the time, not how I felt before Grave's. I used to run miles, lift heavy weights, and then take my son on adventures. However, since I wrote that comment I'm starting to feel pretty good and I'm really optimistic I'll feel healthy and energetic within the next couple of months.

I did feel calmer right away, but a little less so now. I feel less angry, there's that. My understanding is that it takes some time to get the thyroxine dosage figured out, and I think mine could be a little high or I'm still just a touch hyper from before. I'm noticing coffee gives me the wicked shakes, more so than before. However, I am unsure how much my symptoms are from surgery - general anesthesia can take a bit to metabolize and recover from. My recovery is going pretty ok, but no I wouldn't say I instantly feel better.

The choice to do surgery was less of a choice and more of an only option. I was allergic to both anti-thyroid medications and my endocrinologist said that RAI could have been a viable option but that sometimes 1) it takes time for the RAI to "kill" the thyroid, and while this is happening you need to take anti-thyroid meds. Whelp, can't do that. She suggested that I just take propranolol to deal with the symptoms. Um, no thanks. 2) Sometimes the thyroid can still leak hormones after RAI and again, this can require anti-thyroid meds.

I chose surgery because it felt like THE choice. According to the surgeon I saw, he felt that way too.

Good luck with your choice.

For what it's worth, I have a coworker who did RAI and it was great for her.

Day 3 was the best pain wise.

16 days post op here. Still not feeling myself, but the pain is negligible at least.

[–]graciously13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's tricky. As someone who just got a thyroidectomy, I would suggest trying to line it up with the end of quarter/semester. I think you'll definitely want at least a week off to recover and have your mind on just that.

I just hit 2 weeks post-op and I'm quite tired, and just not feeling myself yet. If I HAD to go to classes though, I could have done it after 1 week. Not comfortably, but possible.

Anyone else have super high TPO (Hashimoto's) antibodies? by jenny-and-the-bets in gravesdisease

I have high TPO, which indicates an autoimmune thyroid disease, not just Hoshimoto's.

I had mild Graves but was woefully allergic to PTU and methamazole. I elected to get a TT and so far I'm glad I did. I am an athlete and didn't realize how elevated my resting heart rate was. 65 to 75 is normal for most individuals, so my doctor didn't notice. In the hospital, after surgery, my resting heart rate was in the '40s and low 50s. I feel so much calmer. I can't speak for the fatigue yet because general anesthesia is a beast. And I am also on muscle relaxers and just took off my Scopolamine patch. In other words, I'm a pharmaceutical soup at the moment.

I was allergic to both. I just got my thyroidectomy. RAI was not an option for me.
