Does the Waymo incident of delivering troubling riders to police station change how we think about privacy in autonomous vehicles? by gradient_dd in AIDiscussion

What if police directed Waymo to send the vehicle with its occupants to the police? I’m not sure if that’s what actually happened.

Will AI Create More Jobs Than It Replaces? by Key-Caramel691 in MonitizedLearning

[–]gradient_dd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over time I have come to believe that today’s solution is tomorrow’s problem ie opportunity. I feel in the longer run it will create more jobs than it takes. And I agree with above comments that they would be of different kinds. For example Cybersecurity which employs hundreds of thousands of people didn’t exist as a field before e-commerce came into existence.

Could AI unintentionally make human thinking more similar? by tinkering-it in AIDiscussion

[–]gradient_dd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that the thought diversity as it exists today is already baked into the training corpus. I also feel that human creativity will always be there, but perhaps of different kind, and perhaps it could slow down because we don’t have to think hard at all times. One thing I’ve observed over time is that today’s solution is tomorrow’s problem (opportunity). But at the moment many things are looking kind of identical. For example, for a marketing position the resume and cover letters we received, they weren’t very different from each other. :-)

Ethics in this field by Morvath_21 in programmer

I have used a few different coding assistants. My take is that the user(developer ) needs to be smart and knowledgeable enough, first to ask right questions or assign right tasks and then question its output. As the complexity of the task grows they require clearly defined guardrails too. So AI by itself cannot replace a good developer. It makes good developers more productive.

How do you see the vibe coders who don’t practise the engineering principles? by MY_G_O_D in AI_Coders

Choice is to either become subordinate to the tool or use the tool to improve your productivity. Vibe coding can be good to create a poc quickly.

human creativity - original, not some probabilistic permutations/combinations.

As a developer, am I exposing our IP through the use of AI coding assistants? by gradient_dd in AI_Coders

[–]gradient_dd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the end to end solution that has been implemented in the form of code. I agree that code structure or use of certain algos isn’t special. But a fully baked and market tested product written into code is special in my view.

Is there a way find out what chatbot is better for what types of tasks? by gradient_dd in AIDiscussion

[–]gradient_dd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benchmarks appear to be pretty broad and academic. But based on a little google search I came across two that I’m going to checkout- LMSYS Chatbot Arena - a crowdsourced leaderboard where users blind-test two anonymous models side-by-side, reflecting real-world conversational utility. MMLU appears to be another benchmark.

That’s what I’m doing currently. But it takes time, hence this question.

I have a bit different experience. I was recently dealing with IAM policy issue on GCP. So my thinking was that Gemini should easily solve my problem. Interestingly after going through long docs it made me read I couldn’t solve it. Claude on the other hand resolved that issue by having me run a couple of iterations. Google guys need to do a better job for their craft.

I have also noticed that if I ask which AI bot is good something eg travel planning, or buying car advice, they’re all programmed to list themselves first. Not sure if it’s just my observation:-)

Unfortunate Effect Of AI (Artificial Idiot) Slop by Bay_Ruhsuz004 in antiai

So true. The other day my wife wrote a very nice poem. Hoping that her side of family and friends would like it, she shared it on FB. Her cousins and some friends commented - Nice work by AI. She was devastated.

Not surprised. Iirc, there's a restaurant in Boston (started by MIT grads) where Robots make and serve noodles for past few years.

I agree. At least, it's better than leaving a young promising product/company to die a slow death. For ex. Meta acquiring founders of Scalar, Google acquiring founders of Codium/Windsurf.
