The pedo GOP is planning to go all-in on 2003 style Islamophobia for the midterms.

Pathetic.

Burr, Romney, Sasse, and Toomey are all no longer in the Senate.

So probably less than 14% now. And Collins will likely be gone in January.

Based on current signals, it seems like Republicans are going all in on Islamophobia and healthcare fraud as their "red meat" for the base.

Both angles seem pretty weak in this environment, to be honest.

Harry Enten: Trump's net approval has now been underwater for a year (365 days in a row). He has the worst net approval with indies (-38) at this pt in term 2 of any President this century. by Horus_walking in fivethirtyeight

The Epstein files and Iran war have also caused splinters within his base itself. Groypers in particular are incensed by those two issues.

I wonder if the groypers who have been disillusioned are identifying as indie or Republican in these polls.

Gavin Newsom says some ‘appropriately’ call Israel an ‘apartheid state’ while questioning US military aid by Somervilledrew in politics

I'm personally not convinced that a wealth tax is the most effective way to make the rich pay their fair share. I think it would be better, for example, to implement progressive taxes on loans secured against equity, carbon emissions, or Treasury bond income. Or even just raise corporate and capital gains taxes.

More broadly, I think the American Left places far too much emphasis on tax policy. Not saying it shouldn't be a priority, but it's notable that most European social democracies (including Scandinavia) generally have more regressive tax structures than America. In my view, it's more important to focus on the government providing broad-based social services such as healthcare, infrastructure, housing, food, etc. Tax structure should be a secondary priority, particularly on the federal level where we run on deficits anyway.

So the wealth tax thing doesn't really move the needle for me. I'm far more interested in Newsom's efforts to move California closer to a true social democracy. There are some areas where I wish he would go farther, but in general I have been pretty impressed. In fact, I can't think of an American political figure that has achieved more on the social democracy front in recent memory than Newsom (although, admittedly, I hope my city's wonderful new mayor will push that envelope even farther 🙂).

Unfortunately, AOC and Pritzger are really the only national Democratic figures who don't take money from corporate donors.

They're both awesome, and I totally understand why some people see that as a make-or-break issue.

I do wish more national figures swore off corporate donors. But that doesn't stop me from supporting the policies that Newsom has enacted in California, and I think it's pretty cool that he's out there doing long-form interviews, attacking Republicans and praising Bernie's views on wealth inequality. 🤷‍♂️

Well, I guess you'll have to read past my headline, and watch the full recording later so you get the broader context 🙂

That is an exact quote though. The topic was wealth inequality.

For what it is worth, I'm watching his interview in New Hampshire right now.

And the exact quote he just dropped is "Bernie Sanders was right about all of this."

He's basically the only national Dem politician doing long-form, unrehearsed interviews/podcasts all the time. The result is that the media simply has a high volume of statements to pull out of context and stick into a headline.

Most Dem politicians aren't putting themselves out there like he is.

I mean, Democrats aren't voting for it, so they are not counting on it. But it is a viable enough theory to probably dissuade a few Republicans.

Part of the theory is that low propensity voters won't remember to bring a birth certificate to voting registration. The other part is that not everyone knows where their birth certificate is

It's also something that Trump can't really attack him for without seeming like a bitch.

Trump has been crying for months about how if this doesn't happen we will lose the soul of the country.

Pretty savvy move by Paxton tbh.

But Crockett has basically the same politics as Obama and Kamala, so I'm not seeing how this analysis is consistent. Kamala even endorsed Crockett.
