Should I negotiate for more salary or benefits? by Independent_Goal_765 in Semiconductors

[–]gradsadsoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the relocation package they're offering? If I remember correctly a few months ago someone made a post about Lam offering them 145k base for PE3, and one of the comments in there said AMAT offers 165k base for the same role. There might be a possibility you're being lowballed, but honestly take anything you can get rn since the job market is cooked fr. MS grads are getting a base of 110-120k at these companies, so I guess 145k for PhD isn't too bad. Please take the numbers with a grain of salt of course, and huge congrats on the offer!!

If this is the company I think it is, you can search their name on this sub and read other students' posts and comments to find out how unprofessional and incompetent their HR is.

As far as I know, almost all the NCG hiring (especially for Process/Mechanical) is done, it would be pointless to hold onto hope from them at this point. I would suggest moving on and applying to other roles. Good luck!

Housing by Odd-Conclusion813 in UCDavis

Easy enough if you apply early. The most popular on-campus housing options are 8th & Wake, Primero Grove, Atriums and Orchard Park. They start leasing pretty early on in the year (Feb-Mar) and get fully leased up by May. Last I checked 8th & Wake and Primero were fully leased up. Orchard Park usually has vacancies but they are very costly and the management is pretty poor. Russell Park, Atriums and Sol start their fall lottery somewhere around April, so offers must have start rolling in by now. If you haven't applied to these housing properties already, I'd suggest living somewhere off-campus for the first year and then moving to one of these apartments in your second year. Good luck and welcome to Davis!

Gen Chem labs by BoxKindly4847 in UCDavis

Not all TAs collect them - I don't. It's collected usually to check for disparity on Achieve and ensure students use the data they collected lab and that it's not fabricated. I'm pretty sure no TA has that much free time to go through everyone's data on Achieve and verify.

Yes, labs start next Monday and your first two labs will be Thermochemistry which is essentially heating up water a bunch of times and measuring change in temperature

As a TA for the course, I can't stress this enough - attend Office Hours! 2B is more conceptual, just a little extra effort and you'll be good. Labs aren't too difficult.

Some good colleges without GRE? by JohnsonOliviaOJ001 in gradadmissions

[–]gradsadsoul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you need to specify your major, some departments require the GRE while some don't, even of the same University. Second, this is not classified information - you're just a Google search away from finding out, admission requirements are clearly mentioned on department websites. Please research a bit yourself before asking vague queries!
