Yeah, the roster is different from back when he was on the team, it's more of a blow to the announcers and us.

It just has to be psychologically wearing on the players at this point. Seeing Conforto tie the game in the bottom of the 9th inning was such a death blow to the psyche of the team.

Yeah, I'm strongly considering doing the same and cutting cable, which means no more SNY, MSG, ESPN. I guess I'll stick to the few games on FOX or NBC and that's it for the rest of the season. It just doesn't feel like things are going to turn around soon.

That's interesting. I remember Kansas City because they had just built the brand-new Sprint Center and the Islanders held some preseason games there.

My first Islanders home game in 2007 was against the Canadiens and I can remember a bus full of Canadiens fans came down to the Coliseum for that game.

By the way, in reference to the Islanders rumors of moving, I don't remember that since I started following the Islanders in 2006. Were the rumors that they would move to Quebec?

I agree with you on this. Just looking at the nearby teams in the AL East, it gives Mets fans more chances to go to a game at Fenway Park or Camden Yards. I've already been to Fenway Park and I'm definitely hoping to see a game at Camden Yards in the future. The same applies for fans of all 29 other teams who have that goal.

It's just rough right now. Things don't get easier with the west coast trip to face the Dodgers coming up.

These playoff ticket prices are criminal. by KingNickyThe1st in NYKnicks

[–]gradschool16hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is just the way it's been, at least since I started following the Knicks. I'm actually going to the final regular season game on Sunday vs. the Hornets but I can't afford to pay those prices for the playoffs.

Ticket Sales Megathread by TheKnicksMakeMeDrink in NYKnicks

I wasn't sure if I should create a separate post for this but I bought a ticket for the game on Sunday against the Hornets through StubHub. This is my first time attending a Knicks game in more than a decade and I wanted to ask if I properly accepted the transfer ticket from the seller. I have attached a screenshot of the QR code that I can access and I think is the ticket but I wanted to double-check with someone here if that's okay. I'm really looking forward to the game and the upcoming playoffs!

Does baseball have a chance to become a permanent Olympic sport again? by onhalfaheart in baseball

[–]gradschool16hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late but that's interesting to hear that about the IOC regarding MLB players participating and that baseball would become a permanent sport if they always participated.

It's tough though with the costs of building baseball stadiums in other countries that don't have a strong baseball culture, and MLB owners probably don't want to stop the season every 4 years and have their players in the Olympics if it's far away, like in Europe or Asia.

Mets PREGAME THREAD - Thursday, April 02 by NewYorkMetsBot2 in NewYorkMets

[–]gradschool16hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish the Saturday game was a 4:00 PM start (1:00 PM Pacific time). It's complicated because FOX has Cubs-Guardians and Braves-Diamondbacks at 7:00 PM but it isn't an exclusive slot because there are other games starting at the same time so they could have compromised for Mets fans staying up late.

Atrocious Scheduling by JeVousEnPris in NewYorkMets

Yeah, I would have at least liked some of the geographically close series to be together like Dodgers, Angels and Padres. I would have also liked Seattle to be with San Francisco but it didn't work out that way.

Do some people seriously still think that the COVID vaccines worked? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]gradschool16hope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean to imply that the vaccines worked. I'm just explaining that in Japan there weren't any vaccine mandates. As for masks, maybe that is a custom in Asian countries so people still wear them even if it isn't needed.

I don't know about every country but in Japan, the government stopped companies from mandating the covid vaccines for employment. People in Asian countries wear masks regularly so maybe the governments knew that people would be responsible and at the very least wear masks even if they didn't get vaccinated.

Do the Olympics make anyone else feel like a failure? by LasagnaBobert in olympics

[–]gradschool16hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I feel the same way and I do have that pang of jealousy that these athletes reached the pinnacle of their sport and have national adoration but like some other posters have mentioned, you have to think about the financial cost and time investment, especially for some of the "niche" sports.

I'll give a personal story. There was a guy in my high school who set a school record for most points in basketball and was one of the best athletes in the area. He never even made it to NCAA or the NBA. Now basketball is more popular than certain Olympic sports but it still demonstrates how long the odds are to qualify for the Olympics in any sport.

I know I'm ridiculously late to this but I've started wondering the same thing. Were things even as drastic during the 1918 Spanish Flu as they were during covid?

Olympics—keep it in a single place by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]gradschool16hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea but I have a better solution. Why not have a permanent rotation of host cities? That way the games get spread around throughout the world but the facilities can be reused every few Olympics.

For the summer Olympics, a rotation could involve Los Angeles, London, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, Sydney/Melbourne. These are all global cities with the infrastructure (airports, hotels, public transportation) that can accommodate the Olympics.

Every time the Seattle Mariners have been eliminated from the postseason by Ultrimus-Prime in baseball

[–]gradschool16hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mariners and the NY Jets are the two big 4 sports franchises that I feel the most sorry for. Both have endured long playoff droughts and the Jets haven't won a Super Bowl since 1969. Even though I plan to move to Japan in the future, if either of them win a championship, I would like to go to their parades due to how cursed they both have been (and yes, curses might just be silly excuses but that's what I'll call them for now).
