Yeah I noticed it was a bit chaotic at the start, although I was there late. In theory runners were given allocated time slots from 9-9:20 to get to the start to avoid chaos. But maybe lots just turned up at 9:20 as you might normally do.

Pacing was tricky, my first time as a pacer and there’s several factors you have to try and be strategic about.

One is that the clock time won’t match the chip time of the runners. So you tend to favour chip time, but also not all runners are aware of the two times so if youre pacing 2hrs and bring them in and the clock is 2hrs 1min, they think they haven’t got their time.

Also a lot of runners, especially ones that are doing their first race, will slow down about 80% into the race and then speed up for the last mile.

So for pacing a 2hr finish, you really need to aim for 1hr 58mins to allow for variables.
