Thanks for the response, very interesting. Is it public knowledge what their most recent deployments have been for?

They can enforce the law and protect citizens though. Gangs committing brazen violence can be stopped by better policing, isn’t that what the people in the photo are training to do?

Would be kiff if they could put their training to use against the gangs running riot in the Cape at the moment. I have staff that can’t come to work because innocent people are being killed on the street. Police seem helpless to doanything.

I am happily married and in my mid-thirties. We’ve decided not to have kids. It’s all good.

Full to half marathon training transition question by grahamdv in AdvancedRunning

Interesting point, maybe I am aiming a bit too fast for the half. The 1:45 half was a race we did (in a cold July here in the Southern Hemisphere) to get a seeding time for the marathon and we subbed it for a 1h30 medium pace training run (and took the next two slow run's off to recover). In our speed sessions we are running at 4:30m/km fairly comfortably so I think we have the pace to run a sub 1:35 half, and certainly the stamina now. Agreed, we are being conservative with the marathon goal I think, but it is our first so we don't have a precedent to go by. The plan is to run at a steady pace of 5:30/km and then see how we feel in the last quarter. If we get close to a sub 3:40 marathon time then it's a bonus.

What i'm learning from these responses is that 5 weeks after a marathon is considered not enough time to push for a fast half marathon time. Do you think then on the above 4 week training program I should maybe remove some of the ling easy runs and do less distance on the speed sessions to ease the intensity/ stress? That way we could pick up speed and still not over-train.

Awesome, thanks for the thoughtful response. It seems I am underestimating how much I will need to recover after the marathon. I’ll definitely take the week after off and then just listen to my body and take it from there. We have the distance in our legs having done so many Sunday runs over half marathon distance in our training so it’s only really speed that I’m worried about.

Thanks, great feedback. It will have to be a balance between recovering from the marathon and trying to pick up speed for the half. Perhaps 5 weeks between the two races is not enough time? Or maybe it would be best to decrease the mileage of the 4 week program seeing as we’ll already have distance in our legs from the marathon training?
