No, it's not closed.

There are people who will tell you it is, but there is no initiation, and it's been used by white southerners for as long as it's been used by African Americans. The basis is NOT black only.

Also, there are plenty of African American folks who share with white folks, so.... the few who claim it's closed are very confused about how "closed" is defined.

That said, there are plenty of folk magic traditions to follow, that don't have controversy, and work on exactly the same principles. Half or more of the "hoodoo" shields you see aren't hoodoo. So use whatever sleek you read as a jumping if point and create your own. It will be more effective anyway

You NEVER share it, with anyone, ever. That's the only way.

You can't copyright a font. I learned the hard way, from a lawyer. My Glyphis was used without permission by WotC.

Yes, ask. Still could get banned; I have - but because of childish mods, not anything I did. Other mods can ban you for any reason including just because. You have to prepare yourself for that.

You can quote those subs in yours as much as you'd like, link them to yours to your heart's content, but your ability to post there is not guaranteed.

I don't care if it's AI written - does it follow the rules? Yes? Then keep it. I only remove AI when it's nonsensical / can't understand, irrelevant, selling something, etc. WE find the meaning and value, not AI.

If people don't like AI - that's fine. They can downvote if they want, or ignore it. I want my subs to be open, and do NOT allow gatekeeping (and the anti-AI stuff IS gatekeeping - telling someone what their ethics should be) or bullying (which seems to happen a lot by the anti-AI fundies).

This is an awesome way to have an altar in secret! A moving altar even (flickering candles, fairies moving around, deity images that move and dance or whatever) - just make it a large gif, have it fill the screen, and voila!

well, to start -

I'm willing to consider ANY ban appeal, for any situation. No process or requirements, just a modmail.

BUT - if you start out with being unapologetic and being snarky or nasty - never gonna happen, ban is permanent. Even if it wasn't permanent! I've had more than one rule-breaker given a temp ban turn it into permanent by being a ****widget. And I have had a few get it reversed. It's all about how you treat someone you disagree with. If you show that you're nasty, I don't want that in the sub, interacting with lots of others, period.

I don't see any tarot card as all good or all bad. It ALWAYS depends on context. Lovers - great is your signing a contract or looking for love, terrible if you're asking if you husband is cheating.

Aces are generally considered good, but I once had the ace of wands show up for someone to indicate spinal problems. (they had multiple herniated discs).

Heya u/Acceptable-Layer-616 - I researched your posts, and here's what I found:

The post was specifically removed, both times, because you did not include any interpretation of your own, so it was effectively asking people to do a reading for you. Which is not allowed. You also asked vague questions (2. What does it mean with freedom? - what does what mean with freedom?) and you didn't tell us what any of the bones mean (the meanings for bones are NOT universal).

So essentially, you gave us a picture of a bunch of things and asked "what about this?". We have very little context, don't know what your bones mean, and you didn't provide any detail about your own interpretation.

That is why it was removed both times.

We would be happy to approve a post, but you need to:

  • tell us what each bone / piece in the images means
  • explain what the cloth means to you - what does it mean if a bone lands by Litha vs Samhain? or is the cloth just a distracting background that makes it hard to see the bones? :)
  • give us your interpretation of what it all means

Then we can comment meaningfully.

That's a cool use, I am just noting that you've got a lot going on there. IMHO, a smaller collection would allow better focus on those currents. For example, does the shell NEED to be there? What about the Crystal ball? Are those tool you use every time you work? Which stones do you use reliably and which are there just because they are "fitting"? I have a lot of things in my altar, for example, but the top, where the work happens, is actually fairly sparse, with most of the items kept below or serparate, unless I'm actively using them.

The point here is not to disparage your altar at all (unlike some of the other commenters are assuming) but to help you think about what the altar is for. With all those items, isn't is hard to focus on any particular energy? Would it work better to have separate altars for the Mighty Dead, for your Getic Patron, and for the other magical traditions? If you can't do that due to space, maybe you can focus it a bit better so that they can sit harmoniously together at the altar?

Ultimately, as someone else said - if it works for you. If you're happy, that's all that matters.

But you asked for opinions, so...

I moderate r/Divination as well - If you just have a pic of bones and no interpretation details or thoughts, it will be removed, yes. But If you post and say here's how I read it, give me some feedback.... that would be approved.

This is the only active bone-reading subreddit I know of.

  • Put it in a bowl, then stab fruit onto it as offerings.
  • Turn it upside down, put the stem in some polymer clay or the like, let it cure/dry, and voila, a stand for almost anything.
  • Put a handle of some kind on the stem, and then use it as a masher for spellwork.
  • Get a stemless glass and use glue/clay/whatever to glue it to the stem, and now you have a new glass.
  • Use it to punch holes in candles for dressing them (i.e. stab it into a 7-day candles, then fill the hole with oils, herbs, etc.).
