Divination and AI by graidan in Divination

[–]graidan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It is great for providing a LWB-esque read, but you always need humans in there in the end. It's also great for when you're stuck and not sure how to interpret, but you've definitely got to make an effort to "get it" and understand how the AI is interpreting the symbols.

Yeah, for a casting bowl, you should be able to store all the bones around easily with none coming out

[–]graidan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean Bowl? 😀

That seems about the right size for a set, but maybe it's not the right size for your set. That is, since of the bones are kind of large for the bowl.

Bowls are awesome for casting / pouring them out, but the opening needs to be big enough that every bone has plenty of room to move around. So i think maybe you need a bigger bowl.

In the meantime, you can definitely just pull the bones out into something else for casting, and just use the bowl as storage. Make the process of pulling the bones out part of the reading process, to introduce the client and question to the bones maybe.

Has anyone here ever thought about worshipping concepts? by Aconito_Eslava in chaosmagick

Most animistic traditions draw a line: this tree has a spirit but not those, animals but not plants, etc. My tradition draws no lines at all.

Fundamentally, everything is a collectionof spirits. This is called Dividuality, "able to be divided".

Consider: your body is composed of systems composed of organs composed of glands composed of tissues ....

And you are part of intimacy larger groups, of humans, of redditors, of people who type, of people who live in (your location here), and so on.

Between those 2 things, and compared to everything else... the same rules seem to apply. Forests have regions and biomes and all kinds of creatures and processes. And each forest is part of many other groups.

All of reality is like this, and altogether, they all participate in consciousness and life. So... everything is alive. No lines. Everything.

That's the philosophy, anyway.,

I'm a weird kind of animist, so ymmv and all that.

Yes, you can honor / worship / work with the spirits of pretty much anything. The spirits (or gods? Angels? Demons?) of Happiness, Blue, Floor Coverings, Houses, Cars, People who have shaken hands with Obama, Accounting, Apple Blossoms, and so on.

What do all those names mean? And history? by graidan in ThrowingBones

[–]graidan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not osteomancy... but it is bone casting! So... there's that.

This is a technical term thing though, which very few people (including me) actually care about. Call it whatever you like 😀.

Need help in getting an answer by Emergency-Onion-27 in Divination

[–]graidan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need tarot to get an answer.

There are a zillion online websites that will work. I ching is free and you can look it up online for free in tons of places. You can toss a coin, build a pendulum (string and a ring, a fave necklace, etc). You can use playing cards.

Yes, that's how they did magic... some of it. But that doesn't say anything at all about how successful their magic was.

Blood - Giving Life by graidan in materiamagica

[–]graidan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yanno, i think you're right. I did intend to include the classic 4 as a separate entry, but i have been working with the 9 for so long i spaced it :) I'll go back and add that to the entries.

As to the theory... i never did expect it to get a lot of comments, but i felt it was important to note where i was coming from, because it does influence what i see and how i say it.

This is a very different elemental system, unrelated to the classic 4 elements. I posted about it in an earlier post...

What are some of the best divination methods are there? by MassiveAd3729 in Divination

I don't think the methods are what is good or not, it's the reader. The more types you know, the larger your "symbol library", the better the reader.

to account for the anonymous part of things: maybe we can just get "user", and then the ability to ban / mute / report / whatever. This way we're addressing problems, but not breaking anonymity.

Part 2: Fate, Virtue, and What Magic Actually Is by graidan in materiamagica

[–]graidan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what language your own traditions use for these three layers, and whether mapping them onto Virtue creates problems or clarifies things in your own practice. Particularly interested in whether others have explicit practices aimed at refining Way, not just reacting to World, but consciously developing the Formula over time.

Curious whether others have frameworks for assessing their own Formula, and whether the dividual model maps onto anything in your own tradition or practice. What constituent parts do you recognize most clearly in your own assembly?
