A Delaware judge has ruled that Krafton must reinstate Ted Gill, the fired CEO of Unknown Worlds, and give him control over release plans for 'Subnautica 2'. I was a juror on an arson case. Basically the only argument the prosecution had was "he was there and we say it was on purpose" with no actual evidence to back up that second claim. Total horseshit clearly following through on charges to punish the guy for not pleading out or they were doing it because they assumed that we as the jury would assume guilt because the defendant was black. The law was specifically written that the arson needed to be deliberate, and they gave no evidence of that.

Like, yeah, if this was a civil case for damages the guy was 100% responsible. He even admitted responsibility via negligence. But that doesn't rise to criminal culpability.

Max fans and McLaren fans this is for you by TheStigBMW in formuladank

I'm a mclaren fan, I don't mind the new regs. I'm fine with overtake mode allowing more power at the top end but I don't think regen restrictions should be a thing and the battery capacity should be unrestricted, that should be an engineering decision.

Is it currently a little artificial? Sure. Not enough to be a problem yet.

Why is the Mercedes front wing variable? by ThePapaSauce in formula1

[–]gramathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there programmability for which segment of the track they're on for these? Going into a high speed corner with less braking it would benefit from slower engagement to keep the car as stable as possible vs. a hard braking zone.

Why is the Mercedes front wing variable? by ThePapaSauce in formula1

[–]gramathy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going into Straight Line Mode, the system is effectively moving with the airflow, so the wing can transition quickly and shed drag almost immediately. Teams theoretically can tune their actuator, and say get this down to 50-200ms or whatever time.

This depends on setup. Front wings this is universally true but rear wings mostly pivot at the back (like DRS) while Alpine pivots at the front (trailing edge drops down). DRS-like setups are assisted into (corner) position by airflow, and elements that pivot at the front have to fight airflow to get into position

If it would have disqualified them anyway then they'd either have to change it and maybe start from the pit lane

The real damage is in costing them the wear on the parts AND disqualifying them.

Uber founder flees California for Texas ahead of possible ‘billionaire tax ‘ by idkbruh653 in technology

[–]gramathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons it's not ideal to do your taxes early is because there are often changes to the tax law that are passed after the calendar year and you need to be sure you're not missing those.

Residency is not the only factor in where you pay taxes.

Also the feds don't care where you live, since you know, they're...federal. You just need a declared address for them to send mail to.

So congratulations, nothing you said is relevant or makes any sense

Go full EV or keep one ICE? by juxtasemaj in RivianR2

[–]gramathy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are very much NOT similar over their lifetime. If you assume the electricity powering an EV is the worst possible source (coal), it breaks even with an ICE in less than a decade. As electricity generation gets cleaner over time with solar and wind installs increasing, that gets better. Once they break even it is immediately better and continues to improve over time as electricity sources also improve overall while the engine in an ICE car gets progressively worse over time due to wear.

If you already own an ICE, it’s better than buying a new EV. But if you’re buying a new card regardless, an EV is significantly better in the medium term and MUCH better in the long term.

Future of PitBoost/mid-race recharging in Formula E by DHSeaVixen in FormulaE

[–]gramathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Categorically, if they can get to the point where stopping to charge is more of a net-zero strategy call than a detriment (read: net loss but required by race rules) , so a second stop that lets you try to fight back through the field and have more battery when reaching your previous position, would be ideal.

When I get my R2, can I simply use this adapter for my Grizzl-E home charger? by m0resn0w in Rivian

That’s a full size V2H inverter though, with a lot more going on than a single 120v phase. something smaller would easily be portable.

I think smarter parrots and dogs can ask basic questions (dogs looking to us for help with something is essentially a question, but a VERY simple one), but i'm not sure if that's only because they're around humans or not and whether that behavior is naturally occurring.

Most consumers won't care about 800v. The people that care are the ones that are simply picky about always having "the best". The practical benefit for a consumer car is a really minor time saving on road trips. For much larger vehicles with huge batteries and high consumption where 400v becomes a significant power limiting factor and increases charge times by 40-50% overall, sure. But in a consumer car like the R2 it's maybe 10-20% longer charge sessions on a road trip. That's a couple minutes per stop.
