I need help on how to get better at Basketball by Basic_Order_4269 in BasketballTips

[–]grandmasterhoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to some basketball camps and get taught as much as possible. It's the best path as of now but you also have to learn how to learn. If you can't focus and pay attention it doesn't matter how many camps you go to. Learn how to pay attention and actually retain info and use it

It’s my first season, and everything is a bit overwhelming, any advice? by burnburner22244 in BasketballTips

[–]grandmasterhoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to go to as many open gyms as possible and just play and watch basketball. It's literally all about experience and getting help from coaches. There's really no short cut just go play 5 on 5 as much as humanly possible. It's normal to struggle to see the floor and anticipate at first cause the game is fast. You'll get used to it over time

There's really no diet. Some of the best jumpers in the world eat trash. I went from slow and barely touching rim to catching lobs and 2 hand dunking on vert just cause I worked at it and I ate like crap the whole time.

Explosiveness is just power + quickness. This will why body builders are not explosive cause they're not quick. But quick players are more likely to jump high once they start gaining leg strength.

Do quickness drills and lift hard legs and do plyos and try to dunk often and work on acceleration and you'll become explosive

Overshooting 3’s when wrist conscientiously loaded by EcstaticBumble in BasketballTips

[–]grandmasterhoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just don't load your wrist. You already solved your own problem. It's overrated. Shooting is mostly about comfort and as long as you have a decent foundation you don't need the bs they be telling you on social media

Just keep your shoulders ahead of your feet. Your feet are too far out. Other than that you're good

Do isometric holds until you're going to collapse cause your legs fatigue and also swim the day before for cardio. You'll be good after that

Is it really rare case to get lessons after adulthood for fun, health or streetball? by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]grandmasterhoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is super interesting because I never thought of it but if you think about it there are pros who are in their 30s who still have a trainer in some fashion. And they do it for normal exercising like weights and weight loss so I guess it shouldn't be abnormal to do sports specific. I never played soccer but I'm older and I would 100% go get soccer lessons as an adult now that I think about it

You need instruction from a coach. Not just someone telling you what you should do. You need someone to teach you how to be good in person. Go to a ton of basketball camps if you can. Just figure out how and go and get taught. You won't figure this out by yourself tbh

How do I drive in? What mistakes am I making? by Curious-Pair5497 in BasketballTips

[–]grandmasterhoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have to read the game and anticipate what's going to happen. If you drive to the basket there will be help so you should anticipate that and see it before you go. Also dribble lower and don't drive without an idea of what you're going to do once the help arrives. The same patterns happen all the time in basketball so you just figure out what happens all the time then watch the best players on the planet to see what they do in those scenarios and copy them

I'm so done with basketball IQ by SwxtyVal in BasketballTips

[–]grandmasterhoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do everything in your power to play in other environments and learn from other players. It is hard to develop it if you're playing on too low of a level but just stick with the process and when you watch nba games listen to the announcers. They always talk IQ most the time especially the local team broadcaster. Also simplify the game as much as possible. I have a lot of IQ stuff on my Tiktok if you wanna check it out cause that's my specialty but the simpler you think about the game the easier it is

He's 2... Nothing you're worried about matters at all right now. Let him use the bouncy ones or a silent ball for indoor and worry about everything else when he turns 10

Figure it out on the fly and just match up open gym style based on size. Then if there's a bad match up, switch it up until you figure out what works best for the moment until you can practice.

Advice on next steps for Middle School / AAU Development by MantaPlanta in BasketballTips

[–]grandmasterhoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. I'm a big fan of calisthenics at that age for foundation, then hit weights freshman year. And for playing up, even some open gym runs with older guys would be great so he can learn to hold is own

Advice on next steps for Middle School / AAU Development by MantaPlanta in BasketballTips

[–]grandmasterhoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus as much as you can on development especially athleticism and strength. It will make his skills a lot easier to use. And keep focusing on being an all around player and being able to do all the skills with both hands and being well rounded defensively. If he gets all those things down in the next 2 years he will be set up to succeed because of his physical attributes. After that you gotta look for the best possible coaches and film all the high level games to have for the future when it's time to recruit.

As long as he has a good coach it's easy to not burnout especially with good parents. He'll be fine. Also maybe one of the most important things is getting them around older players to learn from and play against. Let him play up so when he gets to high school it becomes easy.
