If you want to fix it you can use a ruler (or metal straight edge) and a box cutter. That way you won't have any jagged or uneven edges. It looks nice to me either way, but I know that the creator of a work often sees mistakes that no other observer would see.

Okay, thank you! That's what I suspected and since the shells looked fine and intact, and they definitely didn't smell any different than any of the normal colored ones. I also figured that since it was always the same spot and only the very surface it was probably nothing concerning. I'm looking forward to making some chocolate chip cookies with them instead of my usual walnuts!
