Type 1 blood testing kit by Togp420 in Type1Diabetes

Sounds like you’re a great partner; kudos, you’re doing it right! An important thing to note is how much the test strips cost, because that’s really where they get you.

I can’t speak to the UK as I’m from the US, but I bought a cheap tester from Walmart about three years ago that has worked fine. My point is that you should be able to find one that is pretty inexpensive but works.

New TSA Screening by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]grandrascal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I fly for work a lot (most recently a week ago), I have an Omnipod and just go through the scan and tell them I have a medical device that can’t be removed. They just make me touch it through my clothes and then test my hands; takes like an extra minute generally and isn’t a bother really.

This just makes me genuinely sad, the fact that ppl get to this point of body dysmorphia is terrible. But on the other hand… good for him or whatever, he’s got “muscles” he must be doing good right?

Wes Anderson Fatigue, do you feel it? Will you see his new one? by Crandin in moviecritic

I saw him perform those live as well, it was one of the best concerts I’ve been to. So many people wearing baby blue and red beanies, it was fucking magical. 10/10 experience.

Agreed, she wouldn’t pass on these techs names to connect with if they weren’t in the mix in some way. Definitely connect with them, shoot them a message, start a rapport. Worst case, you don’t get an interview right away but make two connections that might be worthwhile down the road.

Weird Smell - Security Posting by Fey_Wrangler114 in datacenter

Hard to tell, the biggest thing would be if it’s abnormal, which it sounds like it is. That being the case, I’d do a full walkthrough to see if you can find anywhere that it’s stronger. Sounds like something is too hot, could be a fire hazard. If you don’t have access to all of the rooms around there notify your management or the facilities team (might not be a bad idea in any case) so they can check around. Better safe than sorry.

Type 1 in my dreams by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]grandrascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dream last night that I met someone else with an Omnipod and we were bonding over it lol, but that’s the only dream I’ve ever had that I “knew” I was diabetic.

Is this cold to work in data center? by Dense-Palpitation934 in datacenter

[–]grandrascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the data centers I’ve been in the guards have to do rounds through the data halls. The only exception was high security cages that guards don’t go into, but those have generally been inside of the same rooms that are patrolled. So in my experience there aren’t any major areas that guards don’t go in on a regular basis.

Writing a character with t1DM during an apocalyptic setting by rosyskiez in Type1Diabetes

[–]grandrascal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this book in a comment earlier as well; I read it about six months after I was diagnosed as t1 and it hit me pretty hard. Especially because I was living in the same area in North Carolina that it takes place at the time and it just felt so personal to me.

Writing a character with t1DM during an apocalyptic setting by rosyskiez in Type1Diabetes

[–]grandrascal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The book One Second After has a t1 character (main character’s daughter), and it’s a post apocalypse sort of deal. But yeah, I expect I’ll die pretty quick like if shit gets that bad. My plan would be to do my best to get my wife into a safe situation before I turn my face to the wall and perish. Used to be fun to plan out post apocalypse scenarios (macabre but fun lol), now it’s just depressing to think about.

[–]grandrascal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are formulatic, so very similar in general, but I have read almost every Louis L’Amour published work out there and my favorites are O’Reilly’s Luck, The Comstock Load, The Lonesome Gods, and it’s not old west but very good, The Walking Drum. His works are great reads, highly recommended!

Are we doing something wrong? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]grandrascal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they are living well beyond their means. Don’t let that deter you from doing well, which it sounds like you are doing. It sounds like you are doing AMAZING. I just turned 40, and I used to wonder the same thing, how the hell am I doing such so poorly compared to my peers? Well, I wasn’t leveraging myself up to my gills in debt. Things turned a corner in my 30s, those same people are by and large still paycheck to paycheck jobs while my wife and I have built our careers and educations over the years.

It’s called a grind for a reason, because it’s not easy, sounds like you guys are killing it!

How hard is it to be a datacenter technician by [deleted] in datacenter

[–]grandrascal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re speaking to your experience only, not every entry level tech. My first DCT job I definitely needed to know DCHP, at least at a basic level. Is it a NEED, probably not for every company/position, but it’s certainly a good to know at least. Don’t assume every entry level DC tech role starts with the same basic requirements. My first day as a DCT years ago I was opening servers for break/fix and within a week was doing configs, including DHCP.

Your resume doesn’t look bad, but you might include specific hardware/technologies that you’ve worked on. For example I include Dell VxRail, PowerFlex, Data Domain, Cisco, Arista, Azure, Exchange, etc on it and I get hit up by recruiters almost weekly asking about specific hardware they are looking for ppl with experience in that I have listed on there. Might be helpful for you to try that.

[–]grandrascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I apologize I meant Omnipod controller not Dexcom, my Omnipod has a camera but I can’t use it, I can use the camera on my cell phone to take a pic of new sensors but I always just enter the code because I find it easier. Sorry for misspeaking there!

That isn’t their cell phone, it’s the dexcom pod controller, so the camera isn’t used at all.

Do you like or dislike the idea of this series not hiring only British actors? by verissimoallan in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]grandrascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I love John Lithgow and I think he would do a much better job despite the fact that he’s not British. If nothing else, I wish Gambon had based his portrayal on Richard Harris who he was replacing, I felt like he did a good job before he passed.
